[hlds_linux] Can't start default OP4 linux server

2004-11-06 Thread Ooks Server
I feel like I'm missing something simple and stupid. I install hlds/linux

and it works fine. I run:
./hlds_run -game gearbox
and I get:
./hlds_run -game gearbox

[hlds_linux] HLDS linux console question

The win32 hlds console has a status line at the top. Does the linux version
have anything like this, or is it just a scrolling terminal display without
a status?

banned.cfg not working,

when i put entries in my banned.cfg as follows:

banid 0.0 STEAM_0:1:123123

i can still connect to the server. I have restarted it, and still, that
has no effect.

What is the syntax for the banid for 1.6 hlds?

[hlds_linux] Source fails to log most Kills

2004-11-06 Thread TC
Many people are already beginning to use some kind of stats logging. I just
wanted to inform you, that the current state of the cs:s dedicated server
version does not allow accurate log parsing.

The Log Output of CS:S sometimes misses connect lines as well as entered the
game lines. Well this wouldn't be much of a problem if there were not the
problem that many KILLS get logged as suicides, or not logged at all!
(Log_level 15 does not help!). Its probably only about 15-20% of kills that
get logged correctly on a 40 man server. Some people can play for several
hours and not get one of their kills ever get logged. Some players get some
kills logged, but not others.

This only seems to do it on a busy server. A test server with a few players
on always seems to work making it more difficult to track down.

It would be really great if Valve could fix this asap as its used for
generating web stats of player scores etc.

Apparently you can also track when this happens. Just open the Server in
VGUI mode and look at the Players TAB -> You will see that sometimes players
are playing on the server but not showing up in this tab! Exactly when this
happens -> Everyone who kills a player not in this players list get logged
as being suicided, or not at all.

Re: [hlds_linux] Web based start and stop for servers

2004-11-06 Thread DLinkOZ
You can restrict users to their home directory then allow them file browsing
permissions in usermin. Also give them the ability to change their
password, these are both modules you can assign to user accounts. Then
create a custom commands module in webmin and enter commands that will
start/stop their processes. Create a custom commands module under webmin.
Under /etc/webmin each webmin custom command increments (custom1, custom2,
etc). You just created the new one for them, so it will be the highest
number. Make a note of that number, edit the custom command in webmin and
modify it to reflect that custom command (/etc/webmin/custom5 for example).
Now assign that module to them as well. When they login to http://ip:2
they will see the 3 modules you defined. You can add or remove others as
wanted.

RE: [hlds_linux] Running an HL Server on Openmosix Cluster

2004-11-06 Thread richy
As I understand it there are several problems with running HLDS on a
openmosx cluster. The app isn't multithreaded (AFAIK) so you are limited
to farming the process out to the best suited or most free slave in the
cluster. Now this can still be quite handy. Have 1 server with all the
administration on it that farms the processes out to its children.

HOWEVER

Make sure you have some sort off QOS on your network. As your processes
are farmed out to the children they consume huge amounts of bandwidth
(Don't forget you are sending the whole process and the ram it is loaded
into, possibly into a GIG of data), straining your network and causing
huge lagg spikes. The main server is still the main what all of the
clients are connected to and will need a very low latency connection to
the children.

That's if I understand it correctly

Some people have got it working well, I think it was Americas army that
runs on a big cluster.

Regards

Richy
