Ah! Thank you Alfred... I was just getting nervous about myself,
not getting it to work :D
Is there a time estimated for the fix, or was it already in the update

Subject: [hlds_linux] [hlds_announce] HL2MP release, Counter-Strike: Source
update.

We have released HL2MP and an update to Counter-Strike: Source.

To get hl2mp run hldsupdatetool with "hl2mp" as the game parameter (i.e
"hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game hl2mp" ). The total download
size is around 300MB.

The update for Counter-Strike: Source is around a 200Mb download (this
is to make Counter-Strike: Source compatible with SRC Mods now the SDK
has been released). Most of this download size is shared with HL2MP
however.

The changes for this release are:
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
- New multiplayer game featuring physics simulation system

Source Engine Updates
- HTTP and non-HTTP map auto downloading functionality
- Enhanced dedicated server logging capabilities
- Various tweaks and fixes

[hlds_linux] Server update: details

2004-12-02 Thread Eric Smith
Here are the details for the server update the other night (below).

-Eric

==

1) Logging

Logging has been updated as follows:

The "log " command now turns on/off *all* logging. Once logging
is on, there are three destinations where the information can be sent: a
file, the server console, and UDP addresses.

You can use "sv_logfile" and "sv_logecho" to toggle logging to a file
and the console (they both default to 1). If logging is enabled and
there are any addresses in the "logaddress_list", the logging
information will be sent to those addresses.

Typing "log" by itself will give you the current logging status and
where items are being logged to.

Here is a list of the changes:

* Added "sv_logsdir" that determines the folder in the game directory
where server logs will be stored.

* Added "sv_log_onefile" that will log server information to only one
file instead of a new file for every map change.

* Updated the "log" command to support "on/off" as well as "1/0".

* Updated the output for the "log" command to include the current status
(logging or not) and if logging is enabled it outputs where the
information is being sent (file, console, UDP).

* Renamed "mp_logfile" to "sv_logfile" to be more consistent with the
other logging cvars.

* Renamed "mp_logecho" to "sv_logecho" to be more consistent with the
other logging cvars.

* Renamed command "log_addaddress" to "logaddress_add" to be consistent
with previous versions of this cvar.

* Added "logaddress_del" to delete an entry in the logaddress list.

* Added "logaddress_delall" to delete all entries in the logaddress
list.

* Added "logaddress_list" to list the current entries in the logaddress
list.

* Added default port "27015" if port is not included in IP given to
"logaddress_add" and "logaddress_del".

* Removed unused "log_level" command.

* Removed unused "log_udp" command (if the logaddress has entries and
logging is enabled, the information is automatically sent to those
addresses).

2) Kick

* Split the "kick" command into two commands: "kick" and "kickid".
"kick" supports kicking by player name. "kickid" supports kicking by
userid or uniqueid.

3) Ban lists

* Added the ability to load large ban lists.

* Increased max IP bans (addip) to 32768.

* Increased max ID bans (banid) to 32768.

Hello Kevin,

it simply doesn't work :\

Unknown command "sv_urldownload"
Unknown command "sv_downloadurl"

(Talking about hl2mp here, but that SHOULD not matter as it isn't
working for CS:S either, but really it should not matter since it's
all the same server.)

I just noticed that the code that makes this cvar is in the client only

sv_urldownload "http://www.DOMAIN.com/cstrike";
just have the files you want available in the original tree format in
a folder called cstrike at your domain.

Hello Kevin,

it simply doesn't work :\

Unknown command "sv_urldownload"
Unknown command "sv_downloadurl"

(Talking about hl2mp here, but that SHOULD not matter as it isn't
working for CS:S either, but really it should not matter since it's
all the same server.)

No, it's not translating, it's taking the direct route. The Cisco
isn't doing the translations, because normally it shouldn't have to.
It needs to do them to make STEAMauth work. It doesn't make a
difference if it's internal or not. I've tried making an alias to the
internal-net, and that hasn't worked either.

Thanks,

Adam

(Just have steamauth ignore the private IP blocks after a successful
first authentication. and I'll go away, I promise, coz that'll fix
this issue). If that's a major issue, have the server force the
client to check with the auth servers to make sure that it is still
the same client. Or you could make just cafe accounts ignore that
second check too? I dunno guy. This is a very easy fix.

RE: [hlds_linux] Failed to load server_i486.so

2004-12-02 Thread Alfred Reynolds
If you just started getting "Failed to load server_i486.so" after the
last update then it is caused by you having the path to the server with
capital letters in it (the game engine is lower casing the path to some
server binaries when they are being loaded). This is a bug and we are
working on the fix, in the mean time you can simply rename all the
directories leading up to the game server as their lower case version.

I had this. And the way I solved it was to delete all the downloaded
content (except the steam binary) and do an update. This will re-download
the whole thing again (it took an hour on my 100mbit connection!) and -
annoyingly - it'll work again.

I tried removing various directories and updating (even the bin directory),

Strange how deleting it all and redownloading fixed it...

[hlds_linux] Weird HLTV problem

2004-12-02 Thread [Old*Boys]Drone
Hi all!

Hope someone can help me out with thi sone.

For some reason HLTV has a problem connecting to my cs 1.6 servers. The log
only reveals that HLTV was kicked not why. The only fix I have found so far,
is to changelevel a couple of times until HLTV suddenly I allowed to
connect. There is no difference which HLTV server it is, that is trying to
connect. I have had the problem with, a HLTV server running of the same

same problem.

Our servers are suffering this problem constantly, I'm seriously tired of
having to restart the CS:S or HL2DM servers every few hours. We use RedHat
Enterprise 3 ES over dual Xeons.

Please fell free to ask me for more detailed info about our config.

You should still put up an updated version on the site for

   2004-12-01 21:35:57 UTC (RELENG_4_8, 4.8-RELEASE-p27)
CVE Name: CAN-2004-1066
For general information regarding FreeBSD Security Advisories,
including descriptions of the fields above, security branches, and the
following sections, please visit
http://www.freebsd.org/security/>.
I. Background
The process file system, procfs(5), implements a view of the system
process table inside the file system. It is normally mounted on
/proc, and is required for the complete operation of programs such as
ps(1) and w(1).
The Linux process file system, linprocfs(5), emulates a subset of
Linux's process file system and is required for the complete operation
of some Linux binaries.
II. Problem Description
The implementation of the /proc/curproc/cmdline pseudofile in the procfs(5)
file system on FreeBSD 4.x and 5.x, and of the /proc/self/cmdline
pseudofile in the linprocfs(5) file system on FreeBSD 5.x reads a process'
argument vector from the process address space. During this operation,
a pointer was dereferenced directly without the necessary validation
steps being performed.
III. Impact
A malicious local user could perform a local denial of service attack by
causing a system panic; or he could read parts of kernel memory. Such
memory might contain sensitive information, such as portions of the file
cache or terminal buffers. This information might be directly useful, or
it might be leveraged to obtain elevated privileges in some way. For
example, a terminal buffer might contain a user-entered password.
FreeBSD 4.x does not implement the /proc/self/cmdline pseudofile in
its linprocfs(5) file system, and is therefore only affected if the
procfs(5) file system is mounted.
In its default configuration, FreeBSD 5.x does not utilize procfs(5)
or linprocfs(5) and will therefore be unaffected by this vulnerability
unless the configuration is changed.
IV. Workaround
Unmount the procfs and linprocfs file systems if they are mounted.
Execute the following command as root:
 umount -A -t procfs,linprocfs
Also, remove or comment out any lines in fstab(5) that reference
`procfs' or `linprocfs', so that they will not be re-mounted at next
reboot.
V. Solution
Perform one of the following:
1) Upgrade your vulnerable system to 4-STABLE or 5-STABLE, or to the
RELENG_5_3, RELENG_5_2, RELENG_4_10, or RELENG_4_8 security branch dated
after the correction date.
2) To patch your present system:
The following patches have been verified to apply to FreeBSD 4.8, 4.10,
5.2, and 5.3 systems.
a) Download the relevant patch from the location below, and verify the
detached PGP signature using your PGP utility.
[FreeBSD 4.x]
# fetch ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/CERT/patches/SA-04:17/procfs4.patch
# fetch
ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/CERT/patches/SA-04:17/procfs4.patch.asc
[FreeBSD 5.x]
# fetch ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/CERT/patches/SA-04:17/procfs5.patch
# fetch
ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/CERT/patches/SA-04:17/procfs5.patch.asc
b) Apply the patch.
# cd /usr/src
# patch < /path/to/patch
c) Recompile your kernel as described in
http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/kernelconfig.html> and reboot the
system.
VI. Correction details
The following list contains the revision numbers of each file that was
corrected in FreeBSD.

Subject: [hlds_linux] Hl2dm lag?

Ok, so I got anxious and set up a hl2dm server last night, set it to 26
players, and watched it lag like hell when 8 people or more were connected
.. And pings skyrocketed when it hit 26. (I know that 14 is the recommended,
but a guy can play, eh? :) )

I saw a couple options on playing with cl_smooth, but that's a clientside
command. I tried to play with the good 'ol sv_maxrate, sv_maxupdaterate and
sv_minrate but no apparent change happened.

Is this a problem with hl2dm? Because I don't have this issue with my
CS:Source server, also running 26 players.

Machine specs:
3.2ghz Xeon w/HT
1gig RAM
100mbit connection to a stable backbone

Server uses about 60% CPU at max capacity.

I currently have the server set to 20 people, it's still quite jerky for
everyone, but as the server fills up within 3 minutes of launch, I guess
people don't mind :)

[hlds_linux] Server not starting (Failed to load server_i486.so)

2004-12-02 Thread Byron Scaf
I don't know if the fix to this has been posted yet so I will just let
people know just in case (The fix hasn't been posted on the forums yet)
A number of people were getting this error:
Console initialized.
Failed to load server_i486.so
Failed to load server binary
couldn't exec valve.rc
Thu Dec 2 20:49:50 EST 2004: Server Quit
*The issue comes from having special characters in the server path. This
includes spaces, special chars such as : and ' and CAPITALS.*
For example /usr/local/server <-- the server will work. /usr/local/css
server/ will not.
Hope this helps and sorry if has already been posted.

RE: [hlds_linux] RCON Problems with CS:S

2004-12-02 Thread PiTaGoRaS
[ Converted text/html to text/plain ]

Our servers are suffering this problem constantly, I'm seriously tired of
having to restart the CS:S or HL2DM servers every few hours. We use RedHat
Enterprise 3 ES over dual Xeons.

Please fell free to ask me for more detailed info about our config.
