RE: [hlds_linux] Iptables help! ;-)
Thanks, The server is working for internet clients, I cannot see it on the lan ;-( I am checking my floppyfw rules. I can see the server with my internal ip address and port 27015 in Steam but when I click on it, I get sent to the Steam game browser. (it shows me what games are available for purchase through Steam) I must have something set wrong on my FloppyFW I am checking. Thanks for the help! Re: [hlds_linux] FreeBSD / HLDS Crashing on updating..
You dont spill cycles on the SMP to do it magic on HyperThreading. The downpart is that SMP is enabled by default in FreeBSD 5.x even if it is not used. That causes a couple of cycles to be used. The only way is to remove the option in the kernel config file. and recompile the kernel. This can only be done on a single CPU system with HTT disabled. You need SMP if you run dual CPU. On the other if you have HTT enabled, you can get a server that get looped and using 99% and the other server is not getting any lag. /Bjorn On Wed, 29 Dec 2004, robg wrote: > Actually, I keep getting mixed results. Re: [hlds_linux] Wrong srcds binary being used
I believe you need SSE compiled into the kernel (isn't there by default) to be able to use the i686 binary on FreeBSD. I could be remembering this incorrectly those, so apologies in advance if I'm wrong. Re: [hlds_linux] i finally got an error thrown
Why is this running the i686 anyhow when u mention just one P4, whats wrong with trying an i386? But try not specifying an ip anywhere, in server cfg or commandline. I ran into a boatload of trouble with that before. If you want to specify lan just do sv_lan 1. Try this, and give an update on your status. - Original Message - From: "William Warren" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Wednesday, December 29, 2004 9:31 AM Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] i finally got an error thrown > here is a debug log.. > > Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1". > Core was generated by `./hlds_i686 -game cstrike +ip > 192.168.0.201 +port 27015 +maxplayers 11 -autoupd'. > Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault. > #0 0xb74a0161 in ?? There have been a lot of changes between 5.2.1 and 5.3. Perhaps some updated code have "broken" the Linux ABI. Since this seems to be a FreeBSD specific problem, the correct way is probably to contact the emulator team in FreeBSD through their mailinglists. We cant blame valve for the current version of linux abi and the quite old base-package. The linux abi is based on the 2.4.2 kernel. I hope they are updating it to more recent kernel version. at least to the later 2.4.x kernels. Also, look if you are running 4BSD schedular or the ULE schedular. Atm it seems they are both are making program crashes. At least if you look at 6.0-CURRENT. I would suggest 4BSD atm due to their crashes only seems to happen upon really high load and high IO. (like a extremly loaded mailserver) ULE seems to crash randomly during high load. I have not read anything around the sched crashes lately. So maybe they are fixed in 6.0, I dont know if they have included the patches to 5.3 yet. I still have to upgrade my servers from 5.2.1 to 5.3. So I cant confirm the problems you are having. As I have 7 machines running steam applications, I run the updatetool from a seperate machine and transfer the updated files to every machine. That machine is running 4-STABLE. /Bjorn -- ...things make for a much more comfortable system. They should also reduce downtime, not that many FreeBSD admins know what downtime is. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

[hlds_linux] Wrong srcds binary being used
Hi folks. I'm running a srcds server on a FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE box. The system is a dual PIII, 1.13GHz. When I use the srcds_run script, it invokes the srcds_i486 binary. If I try to explicity run the srcds_i686 binary, it crashes as follows: ~/sourceds % export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=".:bin:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH" ~/sourceds % ./srcds_i686 -game hl2mp +map dm_watergate zsh: illegal hardware instruction (core dumped) ./srcds_i686 -game hl2mp +map dm_watergate I have linprocfs mounted. [hlds_linux] steam binary crashing under FreeBSD
Hi folks. I have been running an hlds/srcds server on my FreeBSD box for some time now, and until recently had no problems. Now the steam binary has been crashing very often when attempting to update the game server content. Here's what the crash looks like: % ./steam -command update -dir . -game hl2mp Checking bootstrapper version ... Updating Installation Logging in as 'xxx'. Checking/Installing 'Half-Life 2 Deathmatch' version 4 Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Materials' version 3 Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Models' version 3 Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Sounds' version 3 Updating 'Linux Source HLDS' from version 21 to version 22 DebugAssert Expr: ( close( m_pImpl->m_Socket ) ) == 0 Line: 582 File: ../Engine/Src/ContentServerBlockingConnection.cpp zsh: abort (core dumped) ./steam -command update -dir . -game hl2mp I have to re-run the command a LOT of times (usually more than 10) before it will successfully run all the way through and update properly. I'm running FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE-p1 on a dual PIII, 1.13GHz with 1Gb RAM. Is anyone else seeing this problem? Thanks.
