Re: [hlds_linux] low fps - high cpu

2005-07-11 Thread e-Plutonia
All clean servers, no modifications.

HLDS:
sv_maxrate 25000
sv_minrate 0
sv_maxupdaterate 100
sv_minupdaterate 20
sys_ticrate 1000

SRCDS:
sv_maxrate 25000
sv_minrate 0
sv_maxupdaterate 100
sv_minupdaterate 20
fps_max 1000

I observed differently patterned FPS drop happens on both Linux and
FreeBSD, confirmed which pushes it down to 50-70 FPS from the areas of
333-500 FPS . This occurs every few minutes. As the other FPS drops
occur during in-game fire. So they are in fact two seperate things,
disabling VAC2 doesn't change anything. And as I said, the FPS drop in
Source is horribly severe (500 FPS all the way down to 50). The
framerates are usually extended to a constant 500, SRCDS and HLDS, all
of these issues appeared since the release of VAC2. Locking it down in
Linux with the kernel hz, which it usually locks to quite well, does
not solve the actual problems with registry, tested on Fedora Core,
Redhat ES, CentOS. Another ordeal, the high CPU usage has appeared in
HLDS, not just SRCDS, however as I said, it is less severe in HLDS.
And last of all, the bandwidth usage of HLDS is almost 3x the amount
of bandwidth SRCDS uses, for no apparent reason. Alfred, leaving the
tickrate @ standard 33 is not doing anything for the gameplay, causes
choppy gameplay to start with.

Wow Eric, you are helpful.. Tickrate I get, but I was unclear by what
was meant by netrate... So I posted what I thought might be relevant to
netrate.

As to "just do what he said" I would, but first I would like to
understand it...

I admit to being ignorant on this topic, which is why I asked the
question. If you can't handle people asking questions, even ones you
consider dumb, I recommend you discontinue using mailing lists, and
possibly the Internet as a whole. I however don't mind wading through
the redundant questions, and the unnecessary trolling *cough* on a
mailing list to get some feedback from the community...

I inhereted the administration of my servers, so I don't always
understand the reasoning behind my predecessors actions. I just know
that what they had worked for us, but now, not so much, so I'm trying to
find a way to restore gameplay to my servers so my community can better
enjoy themselves...

How about you just do what he said? Follow instructions:

If you have this problem then remove any custom tickrate or netrate
settings and verify if you still have it.

He even went ahead and explained why for you, just so you'd understand
and not ask silly questions instead of doing what you're told:

This release did fix some
rounding bugs in the cmd update rate so the update value should now
match the setting (before it was off by 1 or 2 packets), perhaps your
server config have now pushed you over your bandwidth limits
because of this.

sys_ticrate 150
sv_maxrate 45000
sv_minrate 8000
sv_maxupdaterate 101
sv_minupdaterate 60
fps_max 1000

2005-07-11 Thread steve
Not quite clear what is meant here... I've got the following settings,
any of these seem out of whack?

sys_ticrate 150
sv_maxrate 45000
sv_minrate 8000
sv_maxupdaterate 101
sv_minupdaterate 60
fps_max 1000

Those look like HL1 server settings, my post was referring to Source servers.

Re: [hlds_linux] CS 1.6 AMX on RedHat AS 4

2005-07-11 Thread Stan Bubrouski
Try recompiling amx from the source, this should solve any library
issues. RH/FC are always testing new gcc builds and consequently new
stdc++ libs as well. It doesn't matter how polished something is, it
still needs the libraries it was compiled against. Backwards
compatibility is only useful if the library still has the same version
numbers in the filename and symlinks correctly pointing to it.

So then you cant offer any reasons under the sky why amx is better
than amxmodx? Thats what I thought.

No, the most secure way of all is purchasing games over Steam,
your online purchase with a CC is absolute proof of who you are.

Valve will give your account back with the same username and steamid if
you have your cd key to prove that the account is actually yours.

Thats going to be tough on the people that bought over steam as no cd-key
was ever given :)
