Re: [hlds_linux] VAC Ban Messages
let me explain just this : this message you have in your logs cannot be the message shown when the user is getting banned by vac, because vac bans are delayed, never ban live on you server. this message must be a log message when vac drops a user already known by vac as a cheater, like vac saying : hey you, I know you, I know you cheat and already banned you for this, get out of here ! ;o) I don't remember of any log by vac with HL1, but if there are, it is the same : you never know if a user on your server is getting banned for cheating because ban are delayed, you can just know that already banned user cannot connect your server. hope it was clear ... since when I read again it is not clear to me anymore O.o Oum - Original Message - From: Killer Creation Services [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com Sent: Friday, July 22, 2005 4:31 PM Subject: RE: [hlds_linux] VAC Ban Messages The actual message in your log file when someone gets disconnected due to cheating. Re: [hlds_linux] Managing multiple HLDS instances on a Server
Hi! I am quite new to HLDS and was wondering if you could give me some hints on my problem.. I have, lets say 3 system Users on /home/user1, /home/user2 and /home/user3. Each of them should be able to run a HLDS with it's own maps, configurations etc. What i was wondering about is if i have to give every user it's own complete HLDS installation or if it is somehow possible to have a master installation with just different map/config directories. It came to my mind that if i need a complete installation for every user it would become quite a mess if there are HLDS updates. Every user would waste bandwith again and again just to always get the same files.. So, is there any way of linking the users hlds to a master installation? How are the bigger Gameserver Provider doing it? Thanks in advance for any help.. :) greetings, Daniel! ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

You can use the same binaries for multiple instances. What I would do is install HLDS in a directory the users don't have access to, and specify the config file from each users home directory, that is, if you think they need access to config files... Re: [hlds_linux] Managing multiple HLDS instances on a Server
FWIW: rsync on an IDE is not a good idea, IDE disks don't support disconnected writes, only disconnected reads are supported, which is a significant performance bottleneck when you write to disk.. Just write a bash/perl script to install -c them. for i in . do { install -c .. } ... etc At 04:15 PM 7/22/2005, e-Plutonia wrote: rsync it from a master distribution, verses an update. RE: [hlds_linux] Managing multiple HLDS instances on a Server
You could symlink the directories for the bulk of stuff, like I used to for maps and portions of HLDS that are very large, but in the end it just becomes an irritation. HDD space isn't expensive, even a 40GB disk in your server won't have any trouble handling serving up a few MB of map files for 3 servers if they were to change map all simultaneously. Stick with separate installations but just keep a 'model' directory for copying/scp'ing when you want to setup a new installation and then updating Steam can do the rest. -Scott ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
[hlds_linux] bug: capturing srcds console output not possible
Hi guys, I'm desperately trying to capture output with my perl script. hlds works fine, however I think srcds doesn't like redirecting the stdout pipes. On debian stable (3.1) and suse linux 9.1 i just cant pipe srcds output. For example ./srcds_i686 -game cstrike +maxplayers 16 +map de_dust - port 27022 outputs the normal stuff to your terminal... up to VAC beta secure mode is activated.. However ./srcds_i686 -game cstrike +maxplayers 16 +map de_dust -port 27022 text.txt will NOT pipe anything into the file text.txt and no output to your terminal can be found. Since pipes are used for redirecting output.. perl pipes don't work, tee doesn't work etc etc. Screen is no option for me, is there any workaround for this bug (maybe even in perl)? bye mbalex and thx for any help ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

Rsync on ide is fine if you know what you are doing, naturally better solutions also, but no reason why not.
