One of the public IP's will be fine. If it returns "127.0.0.1" then you
have a problem you need to fix.

other small fixes. You can apply the beta by running the
hldsupdatetool and adding "-beta swapbeta" to the command line.

A couple of users in an initial test reported a server hang and

[hlds_linux] segfualt issues

2006-02-02 Thread William Warren

RHEL-3 machine with dual xeons and a gig of ram. kernel is 2.4.21-37

./srcds_run: line 426: 31408 Segmentation fault (core dumped) $HL_CMD
cat: hlds.31336.pid: No such file or directory
 email debug.log to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

We have to keep trying and the server eventually comes online. Once it
comes online it stays there. If we put -autoupdate into the command
line it crashes. running steambans also causes this issue. running
vanilla sometimes brings the issue on without warning.

I have to report seeing the same drop. Servers which used to be 90-120
and mostly sit at 100 solid now freely fluctuate from 40-110 and are
all over the place.

I've not checked out what the in game experience is yet though.

Re: [hlds_linux] General traffic stats on servers

2006-02-02 Thread Matt Judge

I use ipfm and MySQL for logging bandwidth usage. I have a small perl
script which updates a MySQL table for server players. I then use
jpgraph for displaying pretty graphs exactly how I want using php.

Matt.

Thomas N. Stefanidis randomly typed the following on 02/02/2006 02:07 PM:

Hello,
I would like to add some stats (traffic, players per hour, per day, etc)
for my CS Servers.
Is there any application (maybe php+ mysql) that can do that? (hlstatsX
has some kind of stats, but only for CS:Source Servers)

I'm also interested in a commercial application.

Thank you for your time.

Now I've installed a totally fresh hlds + cstrike copy and made NO changes
to the default setup. When I start the server I get the same results, 5-12%
CPU usage and FPS drops with 0 players online.

When I updated from 29 to 31 things got even worse, CPU usage skyrocketed to
50-99% with NO players online.

Re: [hlds_linux] General traffic stats on servers

2006-02-02 Thread Erik Hollensbe

rrdtool (the tool that MRTG uses to build it's graphs) can do this at
the command line, in case MRTG isn't an effective solution.

rrd has a learning curve though.

Heh... you could always make the file a FIFO that talks to a daemon.

Just an idea. :)

Well, in the meantime you can always use a symbolic link.

The problem with that way is that the banfile will be
inconsistance. It
will not work properly

Scenario:
You ban someone on server1

banid 0 steam_0:1:2 kick; writeid

server1 will write all bans from memory to banned_user.cfg
(banned.cfg on
hlds)

until server2 changes map it will not know about the ban.

You then ban someone on server2

banid 0 steam_1:2:3 kick; writeid

server2 will write down everything it has in its memory. ie: it
overwrite
what server1 just have banned.

I have written a script to work around it.

(This is a summary of the script that does the global ban thing. The
actual script is a little more complex than this)

 snip
#!/usr/local/bin/bash
DIRS="css1 css2 css3 css4"
OUTPUTFILE=pvp_banned.cfg
cd /games/common

# Go through all the dirs
for i in $DIRS
do
cat /games/${i}/cstrike/cfg/banned_user.cfg >> /tmp/tempbans
done

# sort out a make the entries unique
cat /tmp/tempbans | sed 's/^M//g' | sort -u > /games/common/
$OUTPUTFILE

# remove the tempfile
rm /tmp/tempbans
 snap

in each instance of the directory you have a link to the
pvp_banned.cfg

cd /games/css1/cstrike/cfg
ln -s /games/common/pvp_banned.cfg

in the bottom of server.cfg I have:
exec pvp_banned.cfg
writeid

This will work, but you need to be careful when you unban. If its
not done
properly the ban can reapear again.

Well, consider that the frequency of these svc_bad drops has increased
recently, I think there is cause to suspect something has changed. Whether
this change is
in a popular plugin such as metamod or amxmod, or in hlds itself, I have no
idea. But a couple of months ago, we started getting lots of reports of
this problem happening.

I use arrowup to send the stats-command so the interval is about
0.5 sec
between each execution.
I always get a drop down to around 5-10 fps then it immediately goes

back

to
normal. No specific interval between the drops, they seem to come at
random.
With players online it drops more frequantly and the CPU usage is
sometimes
redicilously high, up to 80%.

Apache/MySQL/PHP also running on the server and nothing more.

Any ideas?!

The piece of log above comes from an intel server. As you can see, that

Maybe a bug in the amd binaries?

Just out of curiosity, are you running an Amd or Intel cpu on your server?

My Intel starts up fine with VAC, but my Amd just totally refuse to start up
with VAC and it doesn't enter secure-mode for all the time it's up.

The only difference is the cpu, same os on both and same connection to the
Internet. Tried with both -sport stated and not, used a lot of different
ports to.

Silly question. You are specifying a -sport? Something like +1 from
the +port argument should work.

Could try forcing the i486 binary. Should be compatible with amd (not
optimized though). If VAC starts you can be sure it's the binary :)

[hlds_linux] General traffic stats on servers

2006-02-02 Thread Thomas N. Stefanidis

Hello,
I would like to add some stats (traffic, players per hour, per day, etc)
for my CS Servers.
Is there any application (maybe php+ mysql) that can do that? (hlstatsX
has some kind of stats, but only for CS:Source Servers)

I'm also interested in a commercial application.

Thank you for your time.

I use arrowup to send the stats-command so the interval is about 0.5 sec
between each execution.
I always get a drop down to around 5-10 fps then it immediately goes back
to
normal. No specific interval between the drops, they seem to come at
random.
With players online it drops more frequantly and the CPU usage is
sometimes
redicilously high, up to 80%.

Apache/MySQL/PHP also running on the server and nothing more.

Any ideas?!

Re: [hlds_linux] Source and HL1 dedicated server Beta available

2006-02-02 Thread W0kk3L

Nope, it stays insecure for the rest of the day. If i install the old
version again (with exact the same config and startup files) it does get
secure. But then i don't run the new beta version.

That's weird, cause the (beta release) server keeps starting without VAC.

We have a beta release available for both the Source and HL1 engine.
This beta fixes the steam id swapping problem amongst other small
fixes. You can apply the beta by running the hldsupdatetool and
adding "-beta swapbeta" to the command line.

A couple of users in an initial test reported a server hang and
associated assert (pipes.cpp line 298), if you see this please send
me your OS configuration and hardware.

No, i don't have any -sport specified. Neither did i specify that with
version 29.
So i don't think that is what is causing it... :)

Silly question. You are specifying a -sport? Something like +1 from
the +port argument should work.

Glad about the pipes thing. It's running on a couple of the affected
servers now. We'll know soon enough (well I will) if it wasn't
successful. I've not seen any stalls yet though.

We have released an update to the beta, run the hldsupdatetool again
with the "-beta swapbeta" parameter to get it.

The update fixes the pipes assert, a crash on startup for dual-proc
machines and some in game stalls. Thanks to everyone that gave us
feedback, it really helps track down these problems.
