Okay. Sounds like an easy enough fix. Not sure why I didn't think of
trying that before. There's probably a downside I'm not seeing (like the
next CS:S update will fail because it cannot overwrite the files it needs
to) Anyway, for now I've set a couple of my .bsps on the server to
read-only. So far, players are still able to connect and play on those
particular maps. I will monitor things closely and see post my findings.

 Backup configs (if needed)
 Delete the dir.
 Make the dir
Make sure the permissions are correct.
Then copy a steamclient from directory where it already works.
 run the steamclient again.

Btw, you are not running out of memory or something?

Are you sure the .bsp changes, or could it be a failure in the
md5 hash generator? If you throw a copy of that file in
/usr/games/archive/
and then do a diff on it vs the one in your source folder, does diff show
it's changed? If so, well we're back to the filesystem. If not, then what
is the md5 routine calling that might be wonky?

Rather than delete everything can I suggest first trying (in this order)

delete InstallRecord.blob (will force a verify_all anyway I think)
delete ~/.steam folder (user's home folder where ./steam is run from)
this contains clientregistry.blob etc.
finally delete server.dll itself (as it's the file it's failing on).

See if this helps the update complete at least.

As to the possible underlying causes. Quite a few good suggestions

At the first look, it feels like a memory or disk related

problem.

May

even be a permission problem.

fread() tries to read a binary safe stream from pFile and store

the

data
into m_MallocBlockBuffer.get(), which probably return a pointer

to

the

memory where to store the data.

The other part it seems you have got a bad download or again it

Re: [hlds_linux] Re: [hlds] The Famous "Your Map de_dust differs from the server" ERROR.

2006-02-21 Thread irv carlson

but what it is doing is changing the md5 hash number on the server not the
client and some times it is changing while we are playing it also does it on
win2000 and linux we wven set up a server and did not run it on the net and
the .bsp just the bsp files change

Rather than delete everything can I suggest first trying (in this order)

delete InstallRecord.blob (will force a verify_all anyway I think)
delete ~/.steam folder (user's home folder where ./steam is run from)
this contains clientregistry.blob etc.
finally delete server.dll itself (as it's the file it's failing on).

See if this helps the update complete at least.

As to the possible underlying causes. Quite a few good suggestions
have already been posted.

[hlds_linux] cs:s on xen boxes <-- FPS stucks at 50 FPS

2006-02-21 Thread Timo Hilbertz
hi,

we are running cs and css servers with xen 3.0.1 and 2.6.12-5 kernels. cs
runs fine with tickrate 100, we get FPS values with up to 1000. but with css
the FPS stucks at 50 without any obvious reason. CPU of the xen box runs at
10-20%, so it shouldn't be a resource problem. if we pack the css server
that runs on the xen box and move it to a standard debian 3.1 box, FPS goes
up to 150.
is there anything about CSS that we didn't keep in mind?
here are the net settings:

sv_maxrate 2
sv_minrate 4000
sv_maxupdaterate 101
sv_minupdaterate 13
fps_max 0 (also tried with default value 300)
-tickrate 100

thanks for your help.
timo
