Hi there ...

my server has extreme choke n' loss ...

Heres the startup line:

-binary ./srcds_i686 -pidfile +ip 193.34.144.72 -port 27015 -pingboost
3 -noipx -tos -game cstrike -tickrate 100 -autoupdate -maxplayers 16 +map
de_dust2 -debug +fps_max 0

Now you might say These whole parms are real load but without pingboost,
tos and noipx the loss and choke isn't stable ...

I tried lots of combinations ... but sometimes theses two are a bit better
and sometime are worse ...

The CPU usage of the rootserver ist normal (load 0.5) and this is also the
only server runnin' (3 GB Memory, E6400 CPU)

I also checked the netconfig of the server and if you want to see it, you
could look in this thread's codelines:

http://www.linuxserverforum.de/vb/showthread.php?p=15323#post15323

And finally I wrote my provider to check the cables etc. and he says
everything is all right ...

Know I don't know what to do ...

Has sb. an idea ?

Bye and Thx for your time and help :)

Also I'm starting the server with the -autoupdate parm.

[hlds_linux] Server Rollback 2007-04-05 (link to server files included)

2007-07-05 Thread karumba

hi all,

most of us know about the lags problems occured by the latest 2 steam
updates. i tested a lot of things (different compilers, linux
distributions, 250hz/1000hz, large amount of different css settings, all
without any plugins, etc.) - nothing helped.

today i checked some of my backups luckily found a fresh counterstrike
installation from 5th april. i tested that with my friends...long story
short: this version is very smooth, compared to latest css release. no
round lags, spikes, whatever...
i installed this version now on our largest css server (52 slots)
currently with 40+ users playing. although the server is running with
only 33 tick (!) it is very smooth.

well, of course there is an disadvantage by using an older server
version: you can not connect to the server by using css-favorites.
however, connect via console works perfect (seems to not hinder our
players of playing on our server since its quite crowded). for that, i
postet a note on our website.

for those of you that want to give this a try:
http://213.133.110.146/~gameserver/css_2007-04-05.zip (~400MB)

this package contains all files which i think are needed. maps, sounds,
etc. are not included. just copy the files over your existing server
installation. plz backup you directory before doning that! i do not take
responsibility for everything!

feedback appreciated! :)

greetings from germany,
karumba

[hlds_linux] Another Pure bug?

2007-07-05 Thread Rónai György

It seems, that we cant get de_egyptkm custom map to work.

It has a materials/de_egyptkm/, and a models/de_egyptkm/ folder, both
with a lot of files.

None of these files pass the CRC checking, even if the user deletes the
whole directoryes, and the server sends them new.

I also tryed to remove these two dirs from the server, and reupload
them, and of course on the fasthttp too.

No go. The server is still kicking everyone, because he thinks that
these files are different.

This is the only map, wich doesnt work...

Anyone else has this map on a pure server?

RE: [hlds_linux] Help! Alfred? ...Anyone?!

2007-07-05 Thread Mike Dussault

This is our top priority bug right now. We have a repro for the idle bug
but not this lag-like-hell bug, although I think they're related. We're
running tests and will fix this as soon as we can.

In the meantime, if people who are seeing this problem want to try some
things and send some results, it would help:

1. Set net_queue_trace to 581304 and notice if/when the engine starts
spewing - threaded queued packet sent messages.

2. Play with different values of net_queue_flush_interval. The default
value is 1. Try 5.

3. Add -NoQueuedPacketThread to your command line. The engine will say
Found -NoQueuedPacketThread so you'll know it's doing the right thing.
Note that if you use this on the command line, then net_queue_trace and
net_queue_flush_interval won't be used.

I'll try to repro the problem here. It looks like maybe the model has a slash

To fix this issue, repack the map with a tool like bspzip or mapanalyser.
We've had a similar issue in CAL/CEVO/Competitions in general with
de_contra, repacking the materials into the BSP file resolved all issues.
(Yes I do understand this isn't a fully ideal approach, however it most
definitely is the best way to avoid loopholes in sv_pure).

was some wrong configuration from my side.
could you please send your whole whitelist to verify that?

of course we will try to help.

plz find some additional questions inline.

1. Set net_queue_trace to 581304 and notice if/when the engine starts
spewing - threaded queued packet sent messages.

with notice if/when the engine starts spewing... you mean after what
time after enabling?

3. Add -NoQueuedPacketThread to your command line. The engine will say
Found -NoQueuedPacketThread so you'll know it's doing the right thing.
Note that if you use this on the command line, then net_queue_trace and
net_queue_flush_interval won't be used.

is this the same as net_queue_flush_interval 0 +
net_queued_packet_thread 0?
this is a workaround not intended for debugging, right?

RE: [hlds_linux] Help! Alfred? ...Anyone?!

2007-07-05 Thread Mike Dussault
For the net_queue_trace thing, I'd like to find out if there is a
correlation between your server hitches and the threaded queued packet
sent spew. If you never see the spew, that helps narrow things down.

-NoQueuedPacketThread is actually different than
net_queued_packet_thread 0. The former doesn't create a thread at all,
whereas the latter creates a thread but leaves it idle. The bug we're
reproing on our dual-core Linux boxes here is that a supposedly idle
thread is not in fact idle.. It's eating lots of CPU that it shouldn't
be. We're investigating that behavior right now.

mike, thanks for answering my questions.

i just made some tests with net_queue_trace 581304. map was restarted
and ~5 minutes played with ~30 players (15 bots, 15 humans).

i tested 2 different net_queue_flush_interval settings.

net_queue_flush_interval 1:

net_queue_flush_interval 5:

our machine:
- AMD64 3700+
- debian, latest stable
- kernel: 2.6.18-4-amd64 #1 SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux

plz let me know if you need further information or other settings, etc.

best regards,
karumba

We have a problem where a 12 player 100 tickrate server would not be
able to hold it's tickrate, even though cpu load is fine for that
specific process/thread.

hi all,

most of us know about the lags problems occured by the latest 2 steam
updates. i tested a lot of things (different compilers, linux
distributions, 250hz/1000hz, large amount of different css settings, all
without any plugins, etc.) - nothing helped.

today i checked some of my backups luckily found a fresh counterstrike
installation from 5th april. i tested that with my friends...long story
short: this version is very smooth, compared to latest css release. no
round lags, spikes, whatever...
i installed this version now on our largest css server (52 slots)
currently with 40+ users playing. although the server is running with
only 33 tick (!) it is very smooth.

well, of course there is an disadvantage by using an older server
version: you can not connect to the server by using css-favorites.
however, connect via console works perfect (seems to not hinder our
players of playing on our server since its quite crowded). for that, i
postet a note on our website.

for those of you that want to give this a try:
http://213.133.110.146/~gameserver/css_2007-04-05.zip (~400MB)

this package contains all files which i think are needed. maps, sounds,
etc. are not included. just copy the files over your existing server
installation. plz backup you directory before doning that! i do not take
responsibility for everything!

feedback appreciated! :)

greetings from germany,
karumba

It seems, that we cant get de_egyptkm custom map to work.

It has a materials/de_egyptkm/, and a models/de_egyptkm/ folder, both
with a lot of files.

None of these files pass the CRC checking, even if the user deletes the
whole directoryes, and the server sends them new.

I also tryed to remove these two dirs from the server, and reupload
them, and of course on the fasthttp too.

No go. The server is still kicking everyone, because he thinks that
these files are different.

This is the only map, wich doesnt work...

Anyone else has this map on a pure server?

To fix this issue, repack the map with a tool like bspzip or mapanalyser.
We've had a similar issue in CAL/CEVO/Competitions in general with
de_contra, repacking the materials into the BSP file resolved all issues.
(Yes I do understand this isn't a fully ideal approach, however it most
definitely is the best way to avoid loopholes in sv_pure).

I noticed that prior to the update but it wasn't really a flexing
tickrate so much as the server simply would not get to 100/101. It's
maximum was 99 and more in the 95/99 area. The server itself, according to
those playing on the server, was very fluid and without the # on a
net_graph they really did not notice.
