If you specify the port numbers on the command line using the ##
syntax, you will not get random ports. Look for Milton Ngan's posts
on this list about which command line options/cvar control the ports.
You probably only really care about -netconport and +hostport, but
also make sure the other ports don't get in the way and force the
server to try to skip over them (might be a race condition to get a
certain port?).

Hi friend.
I hope you remember me.
I helped you to get your server working.
Now i need you to help me :).

My AG Server was nonsteam because here in Argentina most of players dont
buy original software.

but with the new valve offer, a lot of people bougt their game trought
steam so i now want to get my server working for steam.
I have exactly the same problem that you had.
The dll-load error, and metamod saying dll version mismatch.
How did you fix that?

Greetings from the far south :P

Re: [hlds_linux] RCON banpenalty killing servers!

2008-11-23 Thread Crazy Canucks
As far as I know all you need to do to block rcon is set the rcon
password to "" in your server.cfg [rcon_password ""]. I know that used
to be the recommended practice anyway due to other rcon exploit issues.
If I need to use rcon, I use AMX Mod X or SourceMod to access it,
depending on which game I am running.

Somebody from valve will coment it?
I'm not alone with this problem.

Is there any option to block rcon on my server?

Assuming we're dealing with public servers here, private ones can have
oddities depending on how you choose to make them private

Are you sure these don't work? There's not a cvar for servercfgfile but
that works on the command line (but isn't currently much use, as it is
evaluated before the ## is turned into a number)

There's no non-hacky way to force _any_ server, forked or not, to be versus
mode only

Agreed, while there _are_ ways to tell (like giving each server a unique
hostname), it's not always as easy as it could be...

I assume you're specifying +exec server##.cfg on the command line... the
order is as listed here:
http://whisper.ausgamers.com/wiki/index.php/SRCDS_cfg_startup_order

So your server##.cfg will only be executed once over the lifetime of the
server, which is why being able to specify individual servercfgfile values
for each fork would be useful. Note that there's also a cfg file executed
when the server is put into versus mode, and one when it comes out of versus
mode, though I can't remember their names offhand.

Re: [hlds_linux] missing vars in l4d?

2008-11-23 Thread AnAkIn .
You don't need to set the map on the command line.
You can set 2 fork to be co op, and 2 versus mode. I have 3 fork versus and
2 co op.

You can exec a cfg on each fork, so instead of setting the map on the
command line, you set it in each cfg.

I have +exec map##.cfg

map01.cfg
map l4d_vs_farm01_hilltop

map02.cfg
map l4d_vs_hospital01_apartment

etc

Re: [hlds_linux] missing vars in l4d?

2008-11-23 Thread chumly chumly

That would be my problem AnAkIn, you have to set the starting map on the
command line, so all the forks are the same.
As it is, you can't set 2 forks to be co-op, and 2 to vrs mode.
If we could set the mapcycle file, we could create a seterate mapcycle for
co-op, and vrs forks.
Also, eventually there will be custom maps out there... And I don't really want
to have the same maps in rotation on all forks.
Without these 'features' the forking functions are not useable to GSP's as they
would need to run seperate processes for each sold server to allow customer
customization. We need to be able to set everything seperately for each fork,
or the memory savings of forking is negated.

Have fun!

I don't think mapcycle even work in L4D, the maps just rotate depending of
the map votes or what the lobbies decide.

I have the default mapcycle (no versus maps) and my versus server just work
fine.

Re: [hlds_linux] coop - versus mode

2008-11-23 Thread Bob Langley
Also, I suggest you create a different mapcycle for VS maps and specify
that in your server##.cfg, which will keep it rotating with the 2 VS
maps only.

Use the mapcycle cvar in your server##.cfg

mapcycle "mapcycle_vs.txt"

and create a new file mapcycle_vs.txt with just these 2 entries:
l4d_vs_farm01_hilltop
l4d_vs_hospital01_apartment

Re: [hlds_linux] coop - versus mode

2008-11-23 Thread Steve Sumichrast
I just posted this question on the list serv a few days ago. Specify
the map load in your cfg files and it won't matter. I thought the
same thing, when I go map to map it will execute my config -- wrong.
It executes server.cfg every time, but not the +exec that's in the
startup of the servers. So what I do is have a general configuration
file (settings.cfg). Each server_cfg##.cfg file then runs "exec
settings.cfg", which sets my servers to my steam group, etc -- global
settings. Then each server_cfg## contains the hostname, map load, etc
-- that way I have two co-op servers per campaign (at startup, they
can of course by modified by end users), and then also have two versus
servers, just by loading the vs maps.

I was scared as well that it would load this per map change, but it doesn't.

Hello everyone, I need some assistance.

ATM I am running -fork 3 and have the servers set at different difficulty
levels with exec server##.cfg in the startup.

Is it possible to run say one of the child servers as a versus only, and
 one
 as a coop only mode?

If it is possible how would I do it?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Re: [hlds_linux] steam update issue

2008-11-23 Thread Steve Sumichrast
This same thing happened to me. Delete the blob file in ~/.steam/

Once I did that it picked another server and I was able to download properly.

No, it will only go back to the first map when the server empties. At
least that's how it works for me.

Re: [hlds_linux] missing vars in l4d?

2008-11-23 Thread AnAkIn .
Is the mapcycle even useful in L4D?

There is no timelimit/etc, and I have a default mapcycle which work just
fine with my versus server (I set a versus map as the start map, and the
mapcycle has no versus map at all).

I guess the mapcycle is not used in L4D.

But I agree with the motd and host files.

[hlds_linux] missing vars in l4d?

2008-11-23 Thread chumly chumly

Hi All,
I'm finding that configuring l4d forks for specific setups to be problematic...
So if any of the l4d dev guys are reading, could you check on these issues?

mapcyclefile <- should be able to specify the mapcycle file in the server
config file.
motd##.txt <- should be able to set the motd for each fork ( or create a
motdfile server var )
host##.txt <- should be able to set the host.txt file for each fork ( or create
a hostfile server var )

Is there a method to force a fork to be a versus mode server only?

Also, fork ## should be a convar in the fork, so each fork only loads that
specific server##.cfg file. As it is now, servers are moving from port to port
so you can not tell someone that a specific server is at port x, as it may
move to another port.

Can we also get a load order for the cfg files? ( server##.txt seems to load,
then it seems to load server.cfg after... shouldn't it be the other way around?
)

Thanks!
Chumly

[hlds_linux] steam update issue

2008-11-23 Thread Joris Kinable
Hello,

I've got go a weird problem with the steam executable:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/srv/gameservers/l4dead$ ./steam -command update
-game l4d_full -dir .
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Getting version 34 of Steam HLDS Update Tool
Connection Reset

or:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/srv/gameservers/l4dead$ ./steam -command list
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Getting version 34 of Steam HLDS Update Tool
Connection Reset

No matter what I do, I get a connection reset when I run the steam
command. Until a week ago everything worked fine. I run multiple
servers and they are all installed in the same way.

-I'm not behind a NAT router, so it's not a matter of opening some ports.
-I'm sure the firewall doesn't cause any issues.

Any idea's why steam keeps returning a connection reset error?

Joris

I didn't know it was also in CSS, the changelog thing I posted is from TF2.

I guess you'll have to wait for CSS to be updated on the new engine to have
a fix.

Re: [hlds_linux] L4D - Sv_pure is broken

2008-11-23 Thread AnAkIn .
I've tried renaming some vpk files to others vpk files and modify random
things in them (now I have pink textures), so I could see if sv_pure checks
for it.

I tried:

pak01_006.vpk allow_from_disk+check_crc
pak01_007.vpk allow_from_disk+check_crc
pak01_008.vpk allow_from_disk+check_crc
pak01_009.vpk allow_from_disk+check_crc
pak01_010.vpk allow_from_disk+check_crc
pak01_011.vpk allow_from_disk+check_crc
etc

also

*.vpk allow_from_disk+check_crc

and that doesn't work, I can still join the server.

Re: [hlds_linux] L4D - Sv_pure is broken

2008-11-23 Thread AnAkIn .
It seems that the .vpk files could be modifiable, someone will probably make
a program for that, so it would be good that Steam check if the .vpk files
are the originals ones when you launch the game, like it does with .gcf .

[hlds_linux] coop - versus mode

2008-11-23 Thread Neil Smith
Hello everyone, I need some assistance.

ATM I am running -fork 3 and have the servers set at different difficulty
levels with exec server##.cfg in the startup.

Is it possible to run say one of the child servers as a versus only, and one
as a coop only mode?

If it is possible how would I do it?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Neil

PS :- very nice job valve, well impressed with L4D :)
