Re: [hlds_linux] STEAM_0:0:1

2010-08-14 Thread Allan Button
10,000 dial up users. Peak connected is 1000. If each one had a static IP,
you'd need 10,000 IPs. Because of DHCP, you can safely set out 1000 IPs and
know that each customer will receive a unique IP.

So yes 'DHCP' can save IPs, and dialup was very popular, so its possible that
the statement that without DHCP we would have run out of IPs 10 years ago, is
possible.

2010-08-14 Thread Eric Riemers
If they can join with a wrong steamid, I cant go banning all the steam id's
they come with and then give them a ip ban. It could have a negative effect
on regular players. (ie banning a ip of a steamid which is actually a valid
one) etc etc.. it seems this should be a "vale fix it please" thing. (maybe
over 2 years valve time)

But besides that it has some added value, so thanks for that part.

It's an old plugin, but it still SHOULD work. Edit the source to ban them

This. And they can charge business customers or some rich residential
customers for static ip service. Then of course you have Dynamic DNS
services avoiding this problem, so (while not a perfect solution) it can
semi-bypass the problem.

Sadly, if it gets out of control, some servers may end up banning entire
IP ranges, which always results in innocent people getting banned.

AFAIK this is up to RIR policy for ISP, if they assign mass static they
should provide updated WHOIS for these IP-adresses as well.

ISPs who do not want their customers to run static servers. It's also
easier to manage for them (just using DHCP to assign IPs to customers is

Combine that steam ID changer with dynamic ip Internet service, and you will

It's an old plugin, but it still SHOULD work. Edit the source to ban
them for a longer amount of time. Hope that helps.

I hate to go ban every ip instead of steamid. I'll instruct the admins to
take a look at this. Pretty annoying since the ingame menu usually bans the
steamid and not the ip. They always seem to crawl out at night when there is
almost no admin online.

It's rather disappointing to see this game out for over 5 years, and clients
can still freely set their SteamID (Along with HL1, which has been out for
well over 10). Along with maliciously attack servers flooding commands, or
simple Denial of Service attacks using 5kb/s of bandwidth, but can bring the
servers CPU to its knees. What's even worse is Valve not even addressing
these as issues, it's completely asinine.

COMPLETELY UNRELATED | Personal Experience | Ranting | Speculation: So I was
running SRCDS as root (bad, I know). Just before we were about to swap the
IP addresses with the DC, someone had formatted the box for us. Since SRCDS
was the only program running as root... I can only draw one conclusion. In
the end we only lost one L4D and one TF2 server (both of which have not been
brought back up since), however if we were not in the process of moving,
that could have been catastrophic. Since then there have been multiple
extensions have been blacklisted. Why on earth not create a whitelist? I
have a white list of good cvars/commands and the rest have cheats set. I
honestly cannot understand the reasoning behind not doing this. However,
this is just flogging a dead horse to be honest, the exploit is terribly old
and first showed itself in 04 when the game was released. It would be nice
to have some protection though, instead of relying on numerous
extensions/plugins.

As always, I've seemed to have taken the topic in another direction.
However, all of these exploits are monumental, and can cause catastrophic
damage to the server if used maliciously. Just like client plugins,
something needs to be done.

2010-08-14 Thread hlds
Ok, now a second Server with the same Slots is online. Is this correct ?

When I start now the Source TV Server, not the Game or Relay, it comes this:

Console initialized.
Game.dll loaded for "Counter-Strike: Source"
maxplayers set to 32
WARNING: NNET_OpenSocket: bind: Permission denied
Couldn't allocate dedicated SourceTV UDP port
Add "-debug" to the ./srcds_run command line to generate a debug.log to help
with solving this problem
Sa 14. Aug 10:02:53 CEST 2010: Server restart in 10 seconds

In the autoexec.cfg I have this:

tv_port xx.xx.xx.xx:27060
tv_name "TORONTO-TV"
tv_relay xx.xxx.xx.xx:28215
tv_password esl""
tv_relaypassword ""

[hlds_linux] How to start Source TV on CSS

2010-08-14 Thread hlds
Hello,

I want to have Source TV on a CSS Server.

I have add in the server.cfg this:

tv_enable 1
tv_port 28215
tv_autorecord 0
tv_debug 0
tv_delay 60
tv_dispatchmode 1
tv_maxclients 100
tv_maxrate 3500
tv_name "Toro.TV - Port: 28215"
tv_overrideroot 0
tv_password ""
tv_relaypassword ""
tv_snapshotrate 20

The Port from the Relay is now 28215 or ?

But when I start the Gameserver, on the Gameserver is a Client with the Name
Toro.TV. but no relay on port 28215

How can I get an Source TV here ?

Thanks for help
