It's something that does not need to be worried about, if the plugins
you create are for servers only. Hopefully now clients cannot load them
and cheat with them on a server with their own game. Supposedly this
means that sm_cvar sv_cheats 1 does not work on the client anymore and
thus the player cannot gain advantage over others or free
r_drawothermodels 2 or similiar setting on. Assuming if this works like
it should.

[hlds_linux] SRCDS Protect Tips

2010-09-10 Thread Alon Gubkin
I'm going to open 4 CS:S servers soon, and I need your help in blocking
cheaters, crashers, etc.

Currently, I am:

   - Blocking TCP port (no RCON)
   - Setting file permissions carefully, running SRCDS under a limited user
   - Installing the following plugins:
  - Kigen's Anti Cheat http://kigenac.com
  - DBlocker http://dblocker.didrole.com/
  - http://dblocker.didrole.com/Denial of Service

  - https://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=109453Rcon locker /
  exploit fix https://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=93934

I took this list mainly from herehttp://wiki.alliedmods.net/SRCDS_Hardening,
but it's seems to be a little outdated now. There are many new defense
plugins (like Query Cache), and I don't know what *should* I install and
what's just unnecessary.

What plugins aren't necessary anymore from this list? What plugins should I
add? What else would you suggest to protect my servers?

Thanks.

[hlds_linux] Ping problem.

2010-09-10 Thread ENES
Hello there,

I have an weird ping problem on my servers. First of all I want to let you
know what am I running, hardware and others you need to know.

I am running CS 1.6 Steam servers, and some old CS 1.5 ones. I know its
out-dated and not supported anymore. We play 1.5 between a group of friends.
So please, just try to offer thing that should help. The hardware special
is:

*(DELL R310 Series)
 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X3440 @ 2.53GHz
 16 GBs of RAM
 500 TB HDD
 Centos 5.2 32 Bit OS (2.6.18-194.el5PAE)
a highspeed Internet connection that can handle my servers.
 *

All of my CS 1.6 servers run perfect on this machine. But the old 1.5 ones
have high values of in-game pings. It shouldn't be more than 25~30. But in
these 1.5 servers, pings are always higher than 60-70 and much more
sometimes (especially when there are more number of players than 15-20 in
the server). I use MetaMod and some plugins. But for test purposes, I have
already tried to disable metamod completely (so there won't be any
plugins/mods running). Nothing changed. I think I am a little sure that its
not a plugin/mod issue.

I don't understand why although all my Steam servers running free of
problems, but others are not? I've bought this hardware (Dell R310) lately
and I've been using Intel QUADCORE processors until then. Everything was
running perfect on both versions during the time I was using those Intel
Quad ones. After the day I had changed my hardware and moved the servers
into it, this was the result I saw and suprised.

Thanks for your help and time community.

latest snap of 1.4 dev and seems tobe better.

i got 2 servers doing this.

I run -autoupdate -verify_all in the cmd line.

When the server starts it checks for updates and says i'm up to date in all
areas.
Then it loads the server.cfg and shortly after reads this.

Yes it is. However just changing the version won't fit the client problem:
The server you are trying to connect to is running an older version of the

Up to Valve to fix this now.
