Re: [hlds_linux] srcds jerky frames after 2-3 days?

2010-12-31 Thread Eric Riemers
A quick google came up with:

sv_clearhinthistory is actualy a command to to clear hint history, those
little hints the game gives you to help you out when your new. If you clear
them, then its like the first time playing. This includes that description
of how to play the different infected classes you get first time you play
one, and the like.

I assume the same applies for tf2 though.

Does anyone else use this cvar ?
It make help in some aspect.

sv_clearhinthistory // Clear memory of server side hints displayed to
the player.

I have it in my server.cfg (used since day 1 of running a TF2 server).
I'm not sure really what it does but it sounds good when it says it clears
and memory. :D Could someone else maybe explain more on this if they know ?

thanks.

 2) No, but you could if you wanted. Try it out and see how it handles.
It will still be choppy, but not steal all the box's memory.

[hlds_linux] New server pid on crash

2010-12-31 Thread Michael K. Gosvig

We have some problems with our server. Whenever a source server crashes
throughbreakpad, the server then starts with a new pid, but it does not
close the old one, so then the server takes over the other server's ports,
as its own is occupied by the server's old pid.

Anyone know a solution to this problem

One solution under linux is to kill whatever is using ip:port pair just
before restarting srcds server. Simple and efficient. :)

 Hi Mark,

For whatever reason, Steam is installing the wrong server package for
you.  When I install or update it, I get the following:

gameser...@www:~$ ./steam -command update -game killingfloor -dir
 ./killingfloor
 Checking bootstrapper version ...

As you can see, Killing Floor uses its own dedicated server package.

Unfortunately, I don't know why it would install the wrong one on your

I won't pretend to understand the exact reason behind it but the
clientregistry.blob file was causing the update tool to get the only some of
the required files. Once I'd deleted the clientregistry.blob file and let the
update tool download it again it then got all the correct files.

Clientregistry.blob gets corrupted by Steam time to time on clients so
server isn't that different. It just thought your game was updated while
it lacked new files. I've told many times to our community members that
deleting Clientregistry.blob will fix 95% if your issues with Steam -
