[hlds_linux] New TF2 DoS exploit: Katana vs. Civilian
There seems to be a new exploit around to crash any TF2 server. If a 'civilian' player gets killed with a katana it will crash the server. Tested it on my own TF2 (build 4489, latest) server and was able to reproduce it every time. Haven't tested it without sourcemod but im fairly certain its an oversight in the katanas code. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
[hlds_linux] CSS Spiking / Choking [Euro]
Hello, So, the last day and a half I've noticed choking / spiking on the servers I operate... I've spent the entire day with my ISP on the matter checking for packet loss / cpu spiking anything that would cause such instability, with no prevail. The last time I witnessed this behavior I mailed this list asking if anyone's experiencing similar behavior, it turned out the steam euro servers were at fault, causing weird issues with vac updates and such. Please be aware you'd simply be confirming that you are seeing similar behavior rather than pointing the finger. CSS w/ zBlock 4.5 on Linux (Fedora) in the UK Spiking / Choking with eventual crashing of the server Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as I'm stuck scratching my head at this one. Re: [hlds_linux] New TF2 DoS exploit: Katana vs. Civilian
First off, that's not a DoS. I updated my Civilian Class Fixer plugin for SourceMod to prevent a method of becoming civilian related to touching med cabinets while taunting to change to non-usable items. If you use SM, you can get the plugin here: http://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=72876 On Sun, Mar 13, 2011 at 2:46 PM, Hendrik Schumann schuman...@googlemail.com wrote: There seems to be a new exploit around to crash any TF2 server. Re: [hlds_linux] New TF2 DoS exploit: Katana vs. Civilian
Thanks bl4nk, all sorted now. Hopefully Valve can get a fix shipped ASAP so all the servers are protected, not just the ones with your plugin. 3 Date: Sun, 13 Mar 2011 17:01:19 -0400 From: bl4n...@gmail.com To: hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] New TF2 DoS exploit: Katana vs. Civilian I forgot to update which compiler the thread is using (haven't updated the thread in a while). Let's be clear here. Do you mean a player that is actually the civilian class or just a player that is in the reference pose because it has no weapons? -Original Message- From: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com [mailto:hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com] On Behalf Of Hendrik Schumann Sent: Sunday, March 13, 2011 11:46 AM To: hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: [hlds_linux] New TF2 DoS exploit: Katana vs. Civilian There seems to be a new exploit around to crash any TF2 server. Re: [hlds_linux] New TF2 DoS exploit: Katana vs. Civilian
Not exactly reference pose, but they walk around with no weapons in their hands. It's basically what the civilian class was when it was available in the game via the join_class command. It seems to be the popular thing to call it these days. On Sun, Mar 13, 2011 at 6:04 PM, Tony Paloma drunkenf...@hotmail.comwrote: Let's be clear here. Re: [hlds_linux] New TF2 DoS exploit: Katana vs. Civilian
I guess most classes do use the reference pose. Whichever class I initially tested the plugin with didn't use the reference pose afaik.
