Re: [hlds_linux] Server freezes after restart given
About a year ago, or maybe even longer than that, Valve introduced a bug that causes both TF2 and the server to crash on quit. Every single time in Windows, the app crashes on quit. On the server, it will only crash if it has been up and running for a few hours or has had a few players. I had to improve my control script shutdown function so that it looks for crashes, hangs, and other things, and then finally just kills the tmux/screen session and nukes the whole process tree because srcds is so mis-behaved. It would not shock me if they have done the same thing with restart, which I have never used. Finally, I don't know why you've not discussed what you are seeing on your console/logs. How do you know SM didn't break in some way over these updates? Would it REALLY hurt to rename your addons folder to _addons, start your server, type "_restart" and see if it still works then? ;) On Tuesday, March 13, 2012, Frank wrote: > Right, > > But what I'm saying is there was no issues up till about 2 Valve updates > back - something has changed and it has nothing to do with SourceMod. > > In the mean time the memory has been bumped up to a full 2GB to see if it > was a memory issue that I'm not seeing. > > I have no issues on the other Linux servers I'm running using the _restart > command and all of them are nearly identical. > > -Original Message- > From: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com > [mailto:hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com] On Behalf Of Andre Müller > Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2012 3:50 PM > To: Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list > Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] Server freezes after restart given > > screen -S name_from_screensession -X quit > > 2012/3/13 Frank : >> Quit Ctrl + C in screen will quit just fine like normal however I >> don't wish to log into each back end to submit a Quit - Start - I'm >> using a quick solution thru Rcon to submit. >> > > ___ > To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, > please visit: > https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux > > > ___ > To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: > https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux > -- Kind regards, *Saul Rennison* ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

Quit Ctrl + C in screen will quit just fine like normal however I don't wish to log into each back end to submit a Quit - Start - I'm using a quick solution thru Rcon to submit. Now keep in mind everything was perfectly normal up till about 2 updates ago nothing was changed otherwise no plugins were changed or added etc etc. I do not believe this has anything to do with SM as when the _restart command is given the application just stops as in locks up till either I do go in and Quit or as I said before I leave it and for some odd reason on its own 30-40mins later the server comes right back up on its own. -Original Message- From: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com [mailto:hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com] On Behalf Of ics Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2012 3:00 PM To: Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] Server freezes after restart given Why not just quit it and restart it after that? _restart is bugged even on clients so i wouldn't be surprised if servers were too.
