Re: [hlds_linux] DoD:S servers up -- how?
Yes, of course I was joking - that's what smileys mean :-) Well almost joking ... it has been somewhat this way in the past ... with winblows and linux Anyway, I do have 3 points for Mr. Clegg: 1) ./steam -command list keep doing this until it says "Day of Defeat Source" or something like that (It still doesn't right now) You could write a script that repeats that command and starts screaming alerts when it changes - or better still - starts downloading the new name when it appears 2) How did you get the server list? What were you running to get that list? If you have a client that shows DoD:S what is it? I know DoD will not show that. So either you faked the list or you are doing something that Valve may not be very happy about ... 3) Maybe they are just beta's that were handed out when they shouldn't have been. And the players are using what to play? Probably beta's as well. And you as well ... ? -Cheers -Andrew On Sun, 2005-09-25 at 18:13 -0400, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > You have -got- to be friggin joking > > /p > > Quoting Andrew Smith <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > > > Hmmm, > > maybe they are windows servers, and Valve, after 18 months of > > working on the Windows version, just realised yesterday that > > they forgot to write a linux version ... :-) > > It'll be available 'real soon now' ;-) > > -Cheers > > -Andrew > > > > On Sun, 2005-09-25 at 11:18 -0400, Alan Clegg wrote: > >> I'm usually not one to complain... well, yeah, actually, I am. > >> > >> Here we are, a day before the "official" release and I'm counting 16 DoD:S > >> servers up -- mostly full, but I still don't have any "howto" on getting > >> the > >> code for my own server. > >> > >> Here's what I'm seeing: http://glycol.wetworks.org/~abc/dod_source.gif > >> > >> Help? > >> > >> AlanC > >> -- > >> Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes > >> turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to > >> return. -DaVinci ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
Re: [hlds_linux] DoD:S servers up -- how?
Hmmm, maybe they are windows servers, and Valve, after 18 months of working on the Windows version, just realised yesterday that they forgot to write a linux version ... :-) It'll be available 'real soon now' ;-) -Cheers -Andrew On Sun, 2005-09-25 at 11:18 -0400, Alan Clegg wrote: > I'm usually not one to complain... well, yeah, actually, I am. > > Here we are, a day before the "official" release and I'm counting 16 DoD:S > servers up -- mostly full, but I still don't have any "howto" on getting the > code for my own server. > > Here's what I'm seeing: http://glycol.wetworks.org/~abc/dod_source.gif > > Help? > > AlanC > -- > Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes > turned skyward, for there you have been and there you long to return. -DaVinci ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
[hlds_linux] DoD:S quick install
Hi, just wondering if the valve people would like to give a heads up on a quick install when they release the DoD:S server today or tomorrow: I've been playing around with the steam update and worked out the rather obvious of extracting the necessary Windows game GCF files (using GCFScape) to the server directories to avoid having to download their full contents a second time - so most files are just verified OK rather than downloaded - just the changes and server files not present in the client are downloaded (works well and is quite easy - only catch was with CS:S to lowercase all the filenames - but that was an obviously simple script - I assume it will be the same for DoD:S) Anyway, the problem with DoD:S will be that my GCF file is encrypted (pre-loaded and paid for already of course) so I can't extract it to the server directory so I will have to download the 627,000Kb of DoD:S GCF data a second time ... there obviously must be a GCF creater in the SDK (but I haven't looked), but if there is you could of course reverse engineer most of the client GCF from the server files - so once the server is released there really is no reason that I can think of to not activate/allow the decryption of the client DoD:S GCF ??? This, of course, would also mean that some game servers are downloading a LOT less from steam and could make the setup happen with less grief due to the lower load on the download side of steam Again, I've done it this just yesterday with CS:S (and dod) and it works fine, so I know it does work as expected. Sound like a good idea Valve? -Cheers -Andrew Smith ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
[hlds_linux] Sven Coop
Anyone worked out how to get Sven Coop to work on 3111c1 or 31110 (6/12/02 version) Under both, the monsters don't show up in the two maps I've tried (megamonstermassacre and crossfire) and the only other no-go is the light-gun doesn't show anything when you fire it - but the power count goes down Otherwise, the map is all there, you can walk around and lots of weapons, sounds, but nothing to shoot :-( I had to copy valve/dlls/hl_i386.so to SvenCoop/dlls/ to get the server to start When I start it under 3111c1 I don't get any info regarding loading stuff from pak0.pak Under 31110 i get a whole lot of output regarding loading stuff from pak0.pak Any hints or help greatly appreciated -- -Cheers -Andrew MS ... if only he hadn't been hang gliding! ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
