[hlds_linux] Time to reverse all changes

2013-02-26 Thread Ejziponken -

I think its time to reverse all the changes (except for steampipe).
Its clearly not working out verry well for the players. It went from 60k
players to 40k players and the graph is still not pointing up after almost two
weeks.Soon it might be to late, if not already. The new update is clearly not
approved by the community.
Its been two weeks soon and the fixes you released are not working out.

We have another update, changes are:
 - fixed hltv demos being corrupted
 - fixed downloading of custom sprays from users
 - increased max rate to 100k (sv_min/maxrate still apply and
defaults for them are unchanged) - changed timing function to call
clock_gettime(), this should cause more stable frame rates

As a reminder the plan is to make this the public release later
  this
week, and that update will be required.

Dude, it got updated yesterday/today depending on where you live.
The client isbackwards compatible but when restarting steam it should
get the new update for CS 1.6 on the client side.
Some users have reported problems that they do not get the update but
have to remove the local files before being ableto
 receiving them.

You should update your servers ASAP
You need to update amxmodx as well to 1.8.2-h60+

I don't see a good reason to force a limit right now, if you want a 1000fps

 support anything above 100fps however.

Thanks. Seems like the bug tracker really payed off for you during the last
 weeks.

Is there any chance we might get another repository for Web API and similar
 community features.
I know that's not your area, but maybe there's now a common approach at
Valve to open up bug reporting.
I'm sure the community would really appreciate that.

 Best regards,
 Sebastian

 2013/2/14 Alfred Reynolds alf...@valvesoftware.com

I have setup a new location for us to collect and triage CS 1.6 and other
HL1 based bugs. If you find a problem that isn't fixed by other peoples
answers on this list and is related to the binaries we release (i.e NOT 3rd
party addons) then please head over to our github page and file a bug (or
check that your bug is not already listed):
  https://github.com/ValveSoftware/halflife/issues

This page should be used for both Dedicated server and Client bugs, as
well as feature requests (within reason).

Over the next few weeks the rest of the Half-Life titles will be

[hlds_linux] Please stop updating CS

2013-02-14 Thread Ejziponken -

I have spent six hours reading and helping players in
three different forums and on IRC now regarding this latest HLDS/Client update.
And I think I can speak for most of the players when I ask you Alfred, to
please stop update HLDS/1.6.

I don’t know your intentions with the updates but I
know it’s doing more harm than good.

The list of problems are much longer than the
changelog you posted. Exploit-fixes are always good, but
changing unnecessary stuff is not. We played this game for years now
without any bigger problems and after this update I even know some players that
uninstalled CS.

To be honest, looking at all problems and the new bugs
I’m actually convinced that this is pure sabotage. And if it’s not, you have to
realize now that you are not adding anything except problems with the updates.

There is a poll on Fragbite.com with 360 votes at the moment and 49% is saying
that they have some kind of problem with the latest update. And only 16% does
not and the rest is not playing 1.6.
I created a post with possible fixes on problems and in 3 hours we got almost
2000 hits. And we are not that big of a community. Ive seen hundreds of
forumposts all over the Swedish sites with players asking for help on many
diffrent problems.
So again, please stop updatating CS 1.6. At this point, I even vote for a
rollback.

Im not playing CS anymore. Im just hosting publicservers. But I think most
problems are from the client-update.
Beta or not, the updates are no good. I talked with alot of players and they
rather live with the same bugs they had 3 years ago then getting new updates.

I dont see how viewdemo stops working, how mouseacc is added, grapichbugs,
modelbugs, fpsbugs, crouchingbugs, configs not working, downloading models not
working, slowmotion bugs, aspect ration not working etc can be new if they
didnt do more than adding UTF-8 support.

Well, i cantsee any new features added besides UTF-8 support.
The rest is either bug-fixes orcleanup to have less failure points in
 the product(as A3D and D3D removed)

 I had 3 problems now i have 2.
 -Viewdemo crashing
-Mouse wont work some times after alt tab
-FPS 500+, Had Vsync off in the grapich driversbugging HL out and giving
me 500+ FPS, reverted back to use 3d application settings (now when
there are such an option!) and it went down to 60fps with vsync on
 giving negative mouse acceleration,
 gl_vsync 0 solved that problem.

What exactly are they fixing? I havent seen or heard anyone having any of the
problems in the changelog and I still dont see how fixing small stuff like that
can do so much damage on the game. And some stuff arent even mentioned in the
changelog. Like -freq not working any more or that you can have 1000fps now on

Subject: [hlds] Potential fix for problems on multi-honed servers

If you are running a multi-honed server, and your server occasionally drops
out of the master server listing, or appears on the wrong public IP, then you
may be interested in testing our some beta binaries that might fix the
problem. The problem begins with a disruption while talking on UDP (often
during the weekly prop of Steam). The Steam client layer then enters a
fallback pattern of TCP, then UDP, etc. Eventually the disruption is
resolved, and it can be random whether your server managed to connect to
Steam on TCP or UDP, depending on where it was in the retry pattern. The
problem with TCP for multi-honed servers is that it will always bind to the
default interface, disregarding any request to bind to a particular
interface. This can cause Steam to see your server as coming from the wrong
public IP. Depending on your routing rules, NAT, etc, your server can drop
off of the server browser because clients cannot get to you when they send
 packets to that IP.

Some server operators have worked around this bug with firewall rules
preventing the server from connecting to Steam via TCP.

These binaries disable TCP fallback for dedicated servers.

 http://media.steampowered.com/apps/440/steam_bins_windows_1586041.zip
 http://media.steampowered.com/apps/440/steam_bins_linux_1586041.zip

Be warned that they have not been widely tested. You should only try out
these binaries if you think you are having problems related to multi-honed
 machines.

Also, note that if you do use these binaries, and then update your server,
 they will probably be reverted.

Re: [hlds_linux] Potential fix for problems on multi-honed servers

2012-11-28 Thread Ejziponken -

Hm We have one machine with 13 HLDS servers and all of them has one IP each.
But I can find my servers in STEAMS serverlist.Could I still have the problem?
If I can see the servers, will everybody else see them too?

Yes, those games talk to Steam in the same way, so a multi-honed server could
 experience the problem.

If you are running a multi-honed server, and your server occasionally drops
out of the master server listing, or appears on the wrong public IP, then
you may be interested in testing our some beta binaries that might fix the
The
problem with TCP for multi-honed servers is that it will always bind to the
default interface, disregarding any request to bind to a particular
interface. This can cause Steam to see your server as coming from the
wrong public IP. Depending on your routing rules, NAT, etc, your server
can drop off of the server browser because clients cannot get to you when
they send packets to that IP.

Some server operators have worked around this bug with firewall rules
preventing the server from connecting to Steam via TCP.

These binaries disable TCP fallback for dedicated servers.

  http://media.steampowered.com/apps/440/steam_bins_linux_1586041.zip

Be warned that they have not been widely tested. You should only try out
these binaries if you think you are having problems related to multi-honed
  machines.

Also, note that if you do use these binaries, and then update your server,
  they will probably be reverted.

[hlds_linux] Serverlist listing?

2012-09-20 Thread Ejziponken -

Does anybody know how the servers are listed in the STEAM serverlist? I know
last year they where listed after my own IP.
So If my IP was like 81.xx.xx.xx then servers that started with 81. showed
first in the serverlist when I pressed REFRESH ALL.
So basicly if my server started with 178. I didnt get that server in the list
as fast as servers with 81.

Is it still the same way or has the list been changed?

 Hi,

RIPE has announced today that the last IPv4 block has been assigned and the
 IPv4 pool has been depleted.

I am wondering, how far is VALVe with the IPv6 implementation in the Source

We are fully IPv6 native reachable and awaiting some news regarding this.

Would be nice if valve added a legitimate way for server admins to grab
screenshots if they are going to patch this exploit. Considering the
screenshots only take an in-game image the only people to have reasons
 against it are hackers themselves.

There's clearly a lack of understanding in this thread.

The plugin simply executes 'jpeg' or 'screenshot' on the client (which is
the exploit everyone is talking about), and uses the client's INetChannel
(an interface in the source engine) to have the server request the file
  from the client.

It can't take a screenshot of your desktop, or steam chats, or anything
else other than the game's screen. The jpeg command has only ever taken
  screenshots of your game.

Really there's two sides of the coin on the issue of making clients execute
  commands.

On one side, malicious server operators could do bad things, and on the
other, it made it possible for an anticheat to get client screenshots.

I would have loved it if this plugin could have survived longer, but it
seems like the command execution method is being fixed. I'd kill to get a
proper anticheat in source, and not the flawed disaster that is VAC.

This sounds like the exploit fixed last week, make sure you update your
install. In particular that exploit would let you download .cfg file from
your server, and if you put your rcon password in that file they can then get
full rcon control of the server (and change the motd amongst other things).
