MP vs XP line are two different types of AMD processors.

I am not commenting anymore on this subject.

GOODLUCK!

We are sorry to say here but AMD is your downfall here as well as not
enough of memory. You should increase your RAM.

The tickrate issuse has to do with your CPU. We recomend you get Intel
Processors if you plan on upgrading. You take your chances if you get a
variation of AMD 64 bit chips.

Research shows the tickrates are capped for AMD processors at 500. Something
about Multimedia Extentions built in on Intel Chips (MMX standard these
days) vs the AMD. But you mainly need more RAM on your PCs if anything.
1-2GB should help ease the work off your CPU from swap RAM drive (AKA
Pagefile.sys to those windows server ops). Runing more than one server with
this configuration is not recomended. Especally not with Counter-Strike
Source.

This is a sample of one of our server.cfg files for linux. (Stock mainly)

If you use Fedora Core X (just Red Hat's free version for all thoes cheapos
out there) you may as well just run your servers on Windows server OS
prefered.

Our findings with Fedora Core X vs Windows is Fedora Core X doesn't use as
much resources as Windows. But only by a very small fraction <6-8%.

If you want a really good Linux OS for a server no matter what
configurations you aquire use *MANDRIVA*! Low over head with
resources giving linux servers a 20-26% boost over other Linux distros. Not
to mention we get a peek if 950 FPS to as low as 450. And yes, even those
cheapo's can get the free version of this as well if their wallet is too
thin for the $76 USD price tag it holds for the middle version of the three.

We've been using Mandriva since 3/2005 when we made the switch from Windows
and which we had done so sooner and we will never go back!

Piece of crap? Just because they calls it VALVe ANTI-CHEAT doesn't mean that

VAC is not nor ever has been an "Anti-Cheat" program. From what we gathered
in the many years of running secure HL1 & HL2 servers is, VAC is just a
detection and reporting tool. If VAC detects a certian signature from a hack
running while their client is running it reports it to the secure center
where it is investigated then the steamid of the user is placed on a global
ban list which prevents these hacker and cheaters from playing in SECURE
servers for one full year. These players are also known as "VAC Banned
Players."

As for your issue there was a serious problem with a few of the earlier
version of the HLDS that they call Stdio Builds. It appears as if the server
you are having issue with is too far out of date to handle the changes in
the VAC module. Add the -autoupdate to the launch of the server and let them
update accordingly. You may have to reupdate your steam as many changed to
the ./steam module have evolved when it comes to the updating process which
appears is what happened to your old troubled server of v1.1.2.5/Stdio 3213.
We used to have very many VAC issues with the version of 3421 and had to
revert back to an older version of 3327.

By reading this error "./hlds_run: No such file or directory" tells me you
are not running the server from where your installation resides! You may
want to try to run the program where your installation files reside. (IE
/home/youraccount/hlds/hlds_l [or where your files are installed])

Also, use hlds_run with the proper syntax. Using the -binary option forces
your command to run the particular binary for your computer totally
bypassing the auto detection of the processor you use. Try using the proper
syntax from the proper directory. As I recall the AMD Opteron is a **64**
bit processor, so stop telling your server to run the 32 bit process maybe
it will not close or vanish as you say.

Start here first then report any issues you may be having.

Re: [hlds_linux] Half-Life 1 Dedicated server update

#1 The Electronic Protection Act was something I learmed in college some 5
years ago. Not sure but it just may be USA standards.

#2 The account used for my dedicated server is not FREE there are PAID
packages on the account (Thought I needed to when I wanted to host condition
zero server)

#3 Linux Distros (as you call them) all run off the same base engine. U N I
X so what is the problem?

On the lighter side, thank you for getting back to me and explaining what
this error means. I am very busy at the time so I will look into trying this
solution sometime over the weekend when my server is not so busy

Thanks
Krillin

Beta? Get up to speed. Beta has been outdated since what, last year?

Where do we linux admins get this new update? STEAM will not update on our
newly Mandriva 2006 Powerpack systems since July of 2006. No one can answer
why. All I get from support is *DEDICATED SERVERS ARE NOT SUPPORTED*.
According to the Electronic Protection Act you are required to support all
forms of electronic software in which you release. The STEAM update just
aborts with a very odd unheard of and UNSEARCHABLE error as seen below.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] hlds1_l]$ ./steam
Checking bootstrapper version ...
*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (!prev): 0x086303f8 ***
Aborted
