an option for people to buy the game which will remove the Ads. This is
truly annoying. Valve only has vac and authentication servers, Valve isn't
the company that hosts the actual game servers for people to play on. I
don't see any reason for this idea to be added to Ad unless if it is a
marketing scheme to kill off CS 1.6 and get people into CS Source.

Gz, this really sucks!

I made some in-game screens for you guys to check out:

http://zeus.geforce.nl/~mb/cs_ads/

As you can, apart from screen 3, these ads are there when you are playing!
So not only when you're waiting to spawn again, but just all the time :(

As I have mentioned before, I finance my hardware and server connectivity
myself, no ISP sponsoring me whatsoever. I do not need Valve to make
advertisements on my server

I do expect that they made a server side cvar to disable the in-game ads?

Is this legal that anybody knows of? I have a bad feeling that these ads
are no more then ordinary spam, it's an advertisement I didn't ask for, so
when they try to shove down there ads through my throat without permission
they are no more then pethatic spammers in my eyes

I would like to see a reply from a Valve employee, with ofcourse the
server cvar in it which disables there spamming.

[hlds_linux] IP + port redirect

2007-02-09 Thread Marcel Beringer

Hi all,

Due to the lack of 64 bit support from Valve I've decided to buy/build a
new server based on 32 bit hardware and a 32 bit OS.

Now I did manage to get the new colo in the same rack as the old server,
but offcourse I cannot share the IP on 2 machines :)

Is there any way to redirect the old IP + port to the new IP + port? I
tried using redir but that only forwards TCP and not UDP, and knowing
that HLDS uses TCP and UDP it didn't work...

Hope someone can help me out.

Thanks in advance.

In-game advertisements are coming to Counter-Strike 1.6. Go ahead and let
that sink in a bit. CS-Nation has the exclusive first interview with
 Valve's
Doug Lombardi about this upcoming addition into the Counter-Strike world.
CS-Nation: Many gamers who play CS 1.6 purchased the retail version. CS:
Source was sold as part of the Half-Life 2 package. How do you think
 gamers
who purchase your products will react to in-game ads?

Doug Lombardi: We believe that gamers are going to expect and accept
well-done advertising in games. We want to make sure that advertising does
not detract from the game experience, so it is our hope that first time
Counter-Strike purchasers will consider it simply as part of the game
 world.
There are three information packed pages to this interview. Go ahead and
give it a gander and voice your opinions in the comment section.

If we put up some ads in our server to help fund it you go all wah wah

[hlds_linux] Disabling Valve Authentication.

2006-10-05 Thread Marcel Beringer

Hi guys,

Why is it I see this message during a 64bit Counter-Strike server start;

Disabling Valve Authentication

And _not_ when I start a 32bit server...

I still have problems with the 64bit server when players connect to it, I
see this in the console;

Client sent drop

And then the players get disconnected from the server, with the message
Error! Server verification failed.

Could that message be connected somehow to the Disabling Valve
Authentication message on the server?

Really looks a like 64bit bug since 32 bit is running fine.

Debian 64 bit
AMX Mod X 1.70 AMD64

2.6.16.2 kernel

Does this sound familair to some people? Cause I really don't have a clue

I did a clean re-install of all files twice allready, and still it freezes

[hlds_linux] In-game amxmodx sounds not working anymore

2006-02-23 Thread Marcel Beringer

Hi all,

I reinstalled my system the other day, did not play for a while till this
evening.
Somehow the normal in-game sounds I installed using Amxmodx did not work.

So offcourse I checked the server first, cause I am using sv_download url
which allways has worked since I
put it in the server.cfg

I noticed something weird checken the URL in my IE browser;

http://zeus.geforce.nl/~mb/files/cstrike/sound/misc/

Whatever .wav file you click, IE just won't play the sounds anymore.

And when you visit the same URL with Firefox the .wav files are working fine
when you click on them

So perhaps this has something to do with the sounds not working in CS
anymore? Normally when you have a
fresh CS install and you connect to a server for the first time again you
see it rapidly downloading all sounds files
again. But that also does not happen anymore since my reinstall.

Anyone got a solution for this? Is this problem known allready?

Hope someone can give some good answers :)

Thanks in advance,

Marcel

Wow ... pretty lame to reply to my own post :)

But I have found the problem and know how to fix this:

Open Internet Explorer and do the following:

Tools - Internet Options -Programs - Reset Web Settings

And tataaa ... the sounds work again, CS downloads them when connecting and
the in-game sounds are restored :)

I have put it in my motd file as well so all players can see how to fix it;

http://zeus.geforce.nl/~mb/files/motd/

Spread the word :)

I reinstalled my system the other day, did not play for a while till this
evening.
Somehow the normal in-game sounds I installed using Amxmodx did not work.

So offcourse I checked the server first, cause I am using sv_download url
which allways has worked since I
put it in the server.cfg

I noticed something weird checken the URL in my IE browser;

http://zeus.geforce.nl/~mb/files/cstrike/sound/misc/

Whatever .wav file you click, IE just won't play the sounds anymore.

And when you visit the same URL with Firefox the .wav files are working
fine
when you click on them

So perhaps this has something to do with the sounds not working in CS
anymore? Normally when you have a
fresh CS install and you connect to a server for the first time again you
see it rapidly downloading all sounds files
again. But that also does not happen anymore since my reinstall.

Anyone got a solution for this? Is this problem known allready?

Hope someone can give some good answers :)

Thanks in advance,

Marcel

 Subject: [hlds_linux] fps problem?

 Hi all,

I am running a CS server for 24 players for over a year now, very busy,
full every evening from 18:00 to 01:00.

I allways had around 500 fps server side, this is the start-up line I use
 for the last year:

 /hlds_run -game cstrike +ip 80.69.78.200 +port 27015 -pingboost 1
 +sys_ticrate 1000 +maxplayers 24 +map de_dust2 -autoupdate -debug

But since a couple of weeks I can't get it any higher than 125 fps, this
is the output from the CS server itself:

CPU In Out Uptime Users FPS Players
 0.00 0.00 0.00 2 0 124.84 0

Only 125 FPS left instead of the normal 500 FPS.

The hardware/OS I am using is still all the same, an AMD Athlon 64 3000+
with 1 GB DDR400 ram and running debian 64 bit.

 I really don't have a clue anymore :(

Hope someone can help me out here!

 Grtz,

 Marcel

There is no 64 bit DoD.

If you want to run DoD on a 64 bit server you're start-up line has to be
something like this:

./hlds_run -binary ./hlds_amd -game dod +ip *.*.*.* +port 27015 +map
dod_caen -autoupdate -debug

[hlds_linux] How many slots on AMD64/P4/XEON ?

2005-06-03 Thread Marcel Beringer

Hi all,

Me and some friends want to buy a server and want to run a couple of
Counter-Strike 1.6 servers on it for our own usage.

We have the following confings in mind:

1. AMD Athlon 64 4000+ S-939
   2 GB DDR 400 RAM
   80 GB S-ATA hdd
   MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
   Debian 64 bit (OS)

2. Intel Pentium 4 550, 3.40Ghz,800Mhz,1Mb,S-775
   2 GB DDR 400 RAM
   80 GB S-ATA hdd
   Intel D925XECV2LK
   Debian (OS)

3. Dual Intel Xeon 3.0Ghz, 800Mhz, S-604
   2 GB DDR 400 RAM
   80 GB S-ATA hdd
   Intel SE7320VP2
   Debian (OS)

Now, can anyone tell me which system is the best and can run the most
player slots on it. We are all adults, so money is no problem, we just
want to have a nice server together and play on it!

Our goal is to run at least 48 slots on it, but we prefer to run 96 on it,
so we can have multiple public servers, without lag if possible.

If anyone has experience with this, please let me know :)

Kind regards,

Marcel Beringer

Very simple, the hlds_updatetool.bin is written in and for 32 bit
machines.

It's looking for some 32 bit libraries, which you have just installed.

The server itself will run in 64 bit mode when started, no worry :)

Have fun,

Re: SV: [hlds_linux] what libraries needed for 64bit OS?

2005-04-27 Thread Marcel Beringer

Like Patrick allready replied,

http://alioth.debian.org/docman/view.php/30192/21/debian-amd64-howto.html#id274293

This part:

There is already a minimal set of IA32 libraries packaged for use in a
64bit Debian system. Simply do an 'apt-get install ia32-libs' and you will
be able to run most 32bit binaries within your system.

That's it, worked for me anyway.

Marcel

[hlds_linux] Some questions about CS 1.6 and Source

2005-04-25 Thread Marcel Beringer

Hi all,

I have some questions about CS 1.6 and CS:S, hope you have the answers to
them :)

1. FPS

why is it my CS 1.6 had 3 times more FPS that my CS:S server?

CS 1.6
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.001457 153 494.56 0

CS:S
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 873 3 166.64 0

2. RATE's

What are the best sv_minrate and sv_maxrate settings for 1.6 and CS:S ?

3. Metamod/Adminmod/Amxmox/HLGuard

Do the above mods work on CS:S ? If no, is there a look-a-like tool for
easy administrating the server ?

That's it, home I can get some answers ! :)

Thanks in advance,

Marcel Beringer

It tells you how you can run 32bit apps on AMD64 Debian.

price on renting some A64 3000's from my ISP but I'm not entirely sure
   how
many slots I should expect to be able to host for source with the said
   chip
and 512mb/1gig of RAM does anyone have an idea?

   Many thanks,

[hlds_linux] Steam not working with 64 bit linux?

2005-04-11 Thread Marcel Beringer

Hi all,

I posted this question on the Steam forums, so far no-one was able to help
me out, so I hope I have better luck in this mailinglist.

For some time I was running a Counter-Strike server on a 32 bit Debian
linux system but with a AMD64 cpu.

This weekend I re-installed the system and installed a 64 bit Debian linux
distribution also.

So now the server really is running in 64 bit mode, cause why not use it
when you bought it :)

But ... I cannot install/update anymore ...

When I download hldsupdatetool.bin and do chmod +x hldsupdatetool.bin the
following happens :

./hldsupdatetool.bin
-bash: ./hldsupdatetool.bin: No such file or directory

Looks like the program only runs on 32 bit systems!

And when I use my old installation (which I backupped on another disc), I
get the following message when trying to start it up:

Auto detecting CPU
Using AMD-Opteron (64 bit) Optimised binary.
Enabling debug mode
Auto-restarting the server on crash
Updating server using Steam.
./hlds_run: line 317: ./steam: No such file or directory
Sun Apr 10 18:08:09 CEST 2005: Steam Update failed, ignoring.

It looks like the hldsupdatetool.bin and steam files are both only for 32
bit systems, can anyone verify this ? And if so, are there any 64 bit
versions available ?

I hope someone can help me out here.

Thanks in advance,

Marcel

Look at the output of ldd hldsupdatetool.bin. Do all the files it
points to exist? That is what this error means -- that one of the
shared libs either does not exist, or is not in your library path.

Since it only uses libc and I am sure you have this, it may be that it
is simply not compatible with 64-bit versions. I'm not very familiar
with 64-bit architecture, but I do know there is a different libc for
 thse OS's.

Another hint this may only work on 32-bit OS's:

 $ file hldsupdatetool.bin hldsupdatetool.bin: ELF 32-bit LSB executable,
Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs),
 stripped

Yes, finally a reply which I can use :)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/games/cs-server/hlds_l$ file steam
steam: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV),
dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped

SO indeed the file steam is a 32 bit file, but I cannot imagine that
there isn't a way to get it to work on 64 bit systems ?

More and more people are switching to 64 bit, so does Valve allready have
a solution for this ?

And again, for the time being, what's the work-a-round for this ? So that
I can update/install my CS server again :)

Thanks for your help Chris!

Grtz,

Marcel

Re: [hlds_linux] FPS on a LINUX CS server

2005-03-30 Thread Marcel Beringer

So the ticrate is bound to the FPS on the server ?

Cause someone told me to do sys_ticrate 1 in the start-up line :)

And yes, my servers runs at 500 FPS.

stats
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 947 260 494.07 0

I don't even understand what ticrate stands for exactly, can someone
please explain ?

Thanks,

Marcel

Every machine has a limit on the FPS that the server can run at so if
you set sys_ticrate to 500 and it won't go higher than 333, then
 you're capped at 333 FPS.

It's a AMX Mod X plugin.

That takes care of that question :)

Server welcome message _without_ using Admin Mod

2001-10-03 Thread Marcel Beringer

Hi all,

When a server has a basic Admin Mod install, and you connect to the
server, you get the following message in your screen ( after the motd ) :

Welcome to the Real World ...

Very cool line indeed :), but ... is it possible to have that same line of
text pop-up in your screen the same way like Admin Mod is doing, _WITHOUT_
using Admin Mod ???

Can't wait for your replys 'bout this !!!

Grtz,

Marcel

Re: Round start ???

2001-09-30 Thread Marcel Beringer

The problem is solved now. I just reinstalled CS, and now it works. Very
weird ... still don't have a clue why the mapcycle.txt was invisible to
the server.

Thanks for everyone's help though.

Kind regards,

Marcel

It seems that I know what the problem is, but I don't know the solution.

After the map is about to change, it freezes up. Normally after a few
seconds you see the Loading in the screen, and then it changes map.

When I manually change the map, it loads the map as usual and players can
connect again. When you open the console and type listmaps nothing
happens ! So I think that that might be the problem. It doesn't know which
 map to load next.

On the server the chmod for the mapcycle.txt is 644, and for some weird
reason the server doesn't see it. I run two CS servers on the same
machine, with different start-up lines, motd's and server.cfg's.

Do I need to put the mapcycle.txt in the server.cfg somewhere or in the
startupline ? Or do I need to make the mapcycle.txt executable ?

If someone knows, please reply ;)

 Kind regards,

 Marcel Beringer
