[hlds_linux] How many slots on AMD64/P4/XEON ?
Hi all, Me and some friends want to buy a server and want to run a couple of Counter-Strike 1.6 servers on it for our own usage. We have the following confings in mind: 1. AMD Athlon 64 4000+ S-939 2 GB DDR 400 RAM 80 GB S-ATA hdd MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum Debian 64 bit (OS) 2. Intel Pentium 4 550, 3.40Ghz,800Mhz,1Mb,S-775 2 GB DDR 400 RAM 80 GB S-ATA hdd Intel D925XECV2LK Debian (OS) 3. Dual Intel Xeon 3.0Ghz, 800Mhz, S-604 2 GB DDR 400 RAM 80 GB S-ATA hdd Intel SE7320VP2 Debian (OS) Now, can anyone tell me which system is the best and can run the most player slots on it. We are all adults, so money is no problem, we just want to have a nice server together and play on it! Our goal is to run at least 48 slots on it, but we prefer to run 96 on it, so we can have multiple public servers, without lag if possible. If anyone has experience with this, please let me know :) Kind regards, Marcel Beringer ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

Very simple, the hlds_updatetool.bin is written in and for 32 bit machines. It's looking for some 32 bit libraries, which you have just installed. The server itself will run in 64 bit mode when started, no worry :) Have fun, Marcel On Tue, 31 May 2005, Andreas Kang wrote: It worked? But what is this? Just support for 32bit? [hlds_linux] Steam not working with 64 bit linux?
Hi all, I posted this question on the Steam forums, so far no-one was able to help me out, so I hope I have better luck in this mailinglist. For some time I was running a Counter-Strike server on a 32 bit Debian linux system but with a AMD64 cpu. This weekend I re-installed the system and installed a 64 bit Debian linux distribution also. So now the server really is running in 64 bit mode, cause why not use it when you bought it :) But ... I cannot install/update anymore ... When I download hldsupdatetool.bin and do chmod +x hldsupdatetool.bin the following happens : ./hldsupdatetool.bin -bash: ./hldsupdatetool.bin: No such file or directory Looks like the program only runs on 32 bit systems! And when I use my old installation (which I backupped on another disc), I get the following message when trying to start it up: Auto detecting CPU Using AMD-Opteron (64 bit) Optimised binary. Enabling debug mode Auto-restarting the server on crash Updating server using Steam. ./hlds_run: line 317: ./steam: No such file or directory Sun Apr 10 18:08:09 CEST 2005: Steam Update failed, ignoring. It looks like the hldsupdatetool.bin and steam files are both only for 32 bit systems, can anyone verify this ? And if so, are there any 64 bit versions available ? I hope someone can help me out here. That is what this error means -- that one of the shared libs either does not exist, or is not in your library path. Since it only uses libc and I am sure you have this, it may be that it is simply not compatible with 64-bit versions. I'm not very familiar with 64-bit architecture, but I do know there is a different libc for thse OS's. Another hint this may only work on 32-bit OS's: $ file hldsupdatetool.bin hldsupdatetool.bin: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped Yes, finally a reply which I can use :) [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/games/cs-server/hlds_l$ file steam steam: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped SO indeed the file steam is a 32 bit file, but I cannot imagine that there isn't a way to get it to work on 64 bit systems ? More and more people are switching to 64 bit, so does Valve allready have a solution for this ? And again, for the time being, what's the work-a-round for this ?
