This update also contains a Source Engine update, so if you run ANY
Source engine based game then you should get this update (it is only
required for Counter-Strike: Source however).

Thanks for ignoring me once again. It seems to me that we have different
opinions on what customer support should look like.

What are you complaining about ? Not getting an answer to your hl2.exe
and datacache.dll problems on a hlds *SERVER* mailing list ? This is
just not the right place to ask - open a ticket via steam support.
Unbelievable ...

Re: [hlds_linux] DoD:S Server Status

2005-09-26 Thread OllyF1

May the force be with us :-)

As it's rather early in the morning (Valve time) I expect there will be
some information in the next few hours. Maybe Alfred just forget to tell
his colleagues that he informed us the server files would be released
1-2 days beforehand before he went to the proverbial beach ;-)

Don't worry, I am confident all this excitement will be forgotten in
approx. 6 1/2 hours ...

Best regards from Germany,
Olly

Tho, maybe this is a test: we are tested how far we are willing to go

Please, give information!

Any updates on when the linux server files will be available?
I'm guessing that I am not the only admin pulling an all nighter to
get all
his servers in a line *before* clients get the green light.

If you've been hitting up bawls, mt.dew, and coffee too, talk about
it :)

Re: [hlds_linux] RE: Day of Defeat: Source server preload

2005-09-26 Thread OllyF1

The time for the client release is perfectly known ...

And don't get confused by the -beta switch, I'm 100% sure this does NOT
mean the server has beta status. It's just the way they keep us from
downloading the last final peaces to get the server up - and that's
absolutely fine for me as I don't need a server running now, but when
the client is released ...and I'm happy I can preload all the server
stuff now so we can get started at release time !

Regards (and have fun),
Olly

Hi,

Many thanks for the server preloading.

Can you give an ~ETA when the client version will be released?

Re: [hlds_linux] Day of Defeat: Source server preload

2005-09-26 Thread OllyF1

You should try ./steam -command update -game dods -beta preload -dir
./srcds unless you are really trying to install into the root filesystem / .

Hope this helps,
Olly

Re: [hlds_linux] HL2 Browser Request

I think he already knows that - if you couldn't enter IP addresses nor

Doesn't store DNS though (even if you made the entry with a hostname)

That's exactly what he asks for (store DNS-based entries)
I doubt DNS names will ever play a major role for game servers -
everyone is focused on IP addresses only.

BTW, I am reading this list for quite some weeks now, but this is my
first post - so hello @ all !

Best regards,

Not sure if this has been covered before, but it would be nice if the

since we publish everything in DNS it would be much easier if it could
store that...

Yes, I know this isn't a Linux server request, but hey, I'm here, and
people who run linux servers are more likely going to be able to spell
DNS, and know what I'm talking about... :)

Thanks,
Steve
