[hlds_linux] Unable to Update

2008-11-13 Thread Pete
I run "./steam" and get this error.

"Checking bootstrapper version ...
Getting version 34 of Steam HLDS Update Tool
tar: Source: Not found in archive
tar: Server/srcds_1: Not found in archive
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
Downloading. . . . . . . . . . .update failed, please run "tar xzUf

Okay that's fine, so I run "tar xzUf LinuxHldsUpdateTool_34.pkg" then
it returns me back to the command line. I try to run "./steam" again
but get the same error.

Any Ideas?

2008-11-12 Thread Pete
If they do implement the server browser like in other games, they
should enable an option where the user can select to play on vanilla
servers. Or just allow lobby to connect to vanilla servers and no Mod
that will solve any problem of lobby people haveing to downlaod mods
etc.

Re: [hlds_linux] Speakeasy security module wont load no matter what

2007-02-14 Thread Pete

It's funny that 64bit binaries aren't supported, yet e-frag STILL use them.
Servers of a friends haven't had
VAC on them for well over a week now and e-frag won't fix it. They claim
it's "VALVEs problem"... Yet i've told
my friend, tell them it's THEIR problem and they need to use 32bit binaries.
Server companies who know
jack about how to run the server properly annoy me so much. I got banned
from their silly forums because
I told them how to fix the error, but they don't like being told what is
right. Just like to let paying customers
suffer by having terrible support and no VAC of any sort on their servers.
Sort it out e-frag, your servers should
be using VAC2, that means using 32bit binaries!

and LinuxPenguin... unlucky on that matter, I think vac is totally dead now.
So it's 32bit all the way.

So if i run 32 bit binary on a AMD64(with a 64 bit OS) is that gonna
downgrade the performance of my hlds server?

Some ppl said here that its better to run the 32 bit binary on a 32 bit
OS.
True/False?

False, imo. At least your OS and any supporting processes will gain
whatever advantages there are from a 64bit processor.

Hi, I've had my own dedicated box with a company for a while and was

But just 2 CS 1.6 servers on a dual opteron 64 seem to be extremely

I run 2 HLTVs, each connected to each server, no spec slots.

I've tried quite a few things that people have suggested - highering and
lowering the sys_ticrate and/or putting pingboost

Re: [hlds_linux] HLDS Timing issue on AMD64

2005-09-17 Thread Pete Clifford [sl1ps]

This is quite an interesting topic for me - I don't know the inner workings
of why a server will or won't
run at a certain fps - but I still find it an odd issue.

I run 4 Servers on a dualOpteron64 1gb box, I was TOLD, use Pingboost 3 and
sys_ticrate 1
for the best performance... I knew for a fact that was bull, so I kept the
ticrate at 250 - a constant 250
fps on a server is better than a 1000fps then 100 fps and everything
in-between all the time on a server.
However, my servers STILL fluctuate, 100-120-200-199-250-140 etc, i've tried
it with just pingboost 2
aswell... 1 of the servers is running the CSDM mod - is there any
recommended settings for something running
a mod like that?

Any help is appreciated - please come talk to me if you could help me run
them all at an optimal-stable setting
at #sl1ps.com on quakenet cheers.

You can acheive 1000FPS with a pingboost of 2.

I never run pingboost >2 and i have never seen this problem on any of my
servers. A pingboost of 3 might keep the FPS at 1000 more often, but as
anyone who has owned/run a 1000FPS server knows, the FPS is far from
stable anyways.

Marcel wrote:

Hi,

Some people want servers with 1000FPS (I know that's nonsense, but they
want
it) and you only get it with pingboost 3 and a high sys_ticrate.

It would be great when someone has a solution for this problem. This
"Timing
issue" also happened on a P4 with Fedora.

BTW: It's sys_ticrate (not sys_tickrate). It's also enough when you add
"sys_ticrate 500" to your server.cfg.

adminmod is fine. suse 9.1 with amx is fine. others on that thread have
debian sarge crashing. i think it's just some version of a library or
