Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Dedicated Server Available

2009-11-17 Thread Tomasz Formanowski

JR The Left 4 Dead 2 Dedicated Server files are now available on
JR Steam. Use the game name left4dead2 from hldsupdatetool to
JR download them. These are not the final set of files, so there
JR will be another small update before the game is released.

Queries wont work with sv_password set - as in l4d1 ...

also, there seems to be a problem with setting maxplayers - its always
set to 18, and queries report randomly 4 or 8 on same configs,
different servers.

2009-10-09 Thread Tomasz Formanowski

TF hi

DAP That's odd. Did you try restarting the server?

TF yes, i've even created new one from scratch (steam), with default
TF config.

DAP Also, your server responds with a challenge number if you use the
DAP A2S_SERVERQUERY_GETCHALLENGE query. You should be able to get one using
DAP the A2S_PLAYER-1 query also, but it just times out like you said.

TF well, i've tried it in many ways, in c++, java and php (bytes
TF conversion stuff) - still no go on all my servers (all linux
TF kernels = 2.6.22.16, glibc-2.8-6)

TF i'm pretty sure that i'm doing everything right, because hlsw can't
TF get player info too.

and btw: all servers stopped responding to player query on
29-30th of sept this year ...

hi

SS I had to stop my server, run ./steam update (./steam -command
SS update -game tf -dir ./tf2) to actually get the update -- once I
SS did that and started the server, that message went away.

No luck. I've deleted all files under bin/ and srcds binaries, run
update again and it downloaded new files...

Bug ...??? Systems are FreeBSD 5 and 6 with glibc 2.3.6.

Well, it's The Law of the Jungle... They just don't care about gsp's,
performance, bugs etc. The majority will still play the game, won't they ?

Fd maybe with the money your going to make from
Fd these adverts you might finnish the game and fix half the bugs that allready
Fd exist aswell as sort the netcode out.

Yeah right ;)

Re[2]: [hlds_linux] VALVe wants advertisements in CS 1.6

2006-12-08 Thread Tomasz Formanowski
Hi,

my 2 cents... hands are itching ...

If we put up some ads in our server to help fund it you go all wah wah
treadning with lawsuites 'n shit, and now your pulling the very same shit,
by putting the ads in, and taking money out of our own hands. Meaning we
have to pay even more cause we wont attrackt our own advertisers anymore due
 to this shit?

What a bunch of crap shit this is.

rgd Yeah sirtom. Thats a good point and i'm with you!

...not to mention cpu load after last updates, high tickrates forced by
clients, not tested updates and lots and lots of bugs.

How could 10 ppl server which uses 50-60% of 3GHz P4 cpu at peak and more
than 50kbit/s per player be hosted by any company? 1000$ worth
hardware + 100$-150$ worth bandwidth / month (not to mention admins
hard work helping players with new updates and buggy engine) for 20 slots worth
less
than 100$ revenue a month ?

Hosting game servers really isn't profitable. It maybe was 3-5 years
ago.

Some people pointed out that :
a) ads should not be compulsory,
b) hosting individuals and companies should get a cut (we pay for
hardware and bandwidth after all hlds and source servers are
resources hogs)

Saint made another good point: GSP's can't sell ads on their own
servers (which in most cases have local coverage),
so they can buy better hardware etc., even though players would then
have a freedom of choice whether to play on server with ads or not.

Or maybe Valve's going to host all of the world's servers by
themselfs (s-thing like wow model), charge monthly fees and selling
advertisements ?

I really hope that Valve will start serious dialogue with us-GSPs and
start threating us like a partners. After all we are natural allies
and our goals are quite parallel.

best regards
Tomek

ps. And one more thought: I can't imagine esport tournament
sponsored by lets say Coke with Pepsi on players screens... ;) Or
maybe it's the way to fully comercialize all of this...

Re[2]: [hlds_linux] Problem with losses

2006-11-16 Thread Tomasz Formanowski
Witaj Andrius,

AP I have problem- My counter-strike 1.6 server is having problems with
AP losses. I watch my server status (in cs 1.6 console) and every
AP 10-20
AP seconds it shows losses for almost all players (about 1-3). I have
AP never had problem like this before. Could it be because of bad
AP hard-drive or something like that? I tried disabling metamod and
AP amxmodx, changing sv_maxrate, sv_maxupdaterate, many different
AP engines (3144,2738,3421 etc.) but it didn't solve this problem. My
AP ISP is very good and doesn't have any problems with internet
AP connection. CPU and memory usage is normal, the same for ping of
AP players. Only these losses and sometimes lags.. Server is AMD Athlon
AP 2500+, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD (maybe because of HDD?)I tried also
AP changing maxplayers, disabling vac etc.. I was watching also cpu
AP usage (with top). What could cause this? p.s. sorry for bad
AP English.
AP Izvrashenj

I would double check network connection, disable auto duplex
negotiation on both switch and nic and check any qos or traffic
shaping software if installed.

For quick test run mtr -i 0.01 hostname (1000 packets/s) as root for icmp
test. You can
also check it with udp datagrams (google for udp testing software).

I would also check nic drivers as they can also cause problems.

Tomek
