RE: [hlds_linux] erm question

2005-07-18 Thread spettit
Multicast also only works if everyone behind the enabled segment wants the same
data, and with every player on the server (using bugger all bandwidth anyway)
having a different location on the map, seeing different users etc, I can't see
it working at all. Unless you make the server send the same data to everyone,
which is just increasing bandwidth usage rather than decreasing it.

Maybe for HLTV - if there was an ENORMOUS viewer base, otherwise there's no
point.

RE: [hlds_linux] RE: VAC2 Beta information

2005-06-16 Thread spettit
At present what happens when VAC2 does pickup a cheat? Are they being put on
the global banlist? I think with the earlier VAC2 betas there was some false
positives being generated and banned globally and I believe there was a warning
issued to those running VAC2 beta to be aware of this.

If it does generate false positives what can be done about it?

I'm keen to run it but I'm a little scared of finding users screaming at me
because they've ended up banned globally when they weren't using a cheat.
Perhaps some kind of option could be added to VAC2 to have a local ban only -
i.e. VAC2 still runs but when it bans a user it goes into the server's local
banfile, giving admins the chance to remove it if it was indeed a false
positive.

Maybe an option like -vac2 or -vac2local?

Just my thoughts.

Valve have already fixed this exploit.

Delayed banning is good, since there is no way for cheat coders to
effectively check if their hooks are detected by VAC or not.

[hlds_linux] sv_enableoldqueries not working

2005-06-07 Thread spettit
I do have sv_enableoldqueries 1 set, however I don't seem to be able to query
the servers still :/

Updating to a newer qstat isn't a problem, just waiting for the code to be
updated completely.

Is there a fix for enabling old queries?

RE: [hlds_linux] Suggestion: Steam Beta Program

2005-05-20 Thread spettit
It would be very hard for Valve to implement. Remember many of the server
side updates also require client side updates (ie the map updates). You'd
have a big mess if people wanted to play on a 'beta' server then also play
on a 'standard' server, because the users would constantly have their client
updating.

Only other way I can think of is for Valve to add another game to Steam
called CS Beta, but then you have a huge amount of disk space used and two
games to keep updated...
