Re: [hlds_linux] endround

2010-10-06 Thread tom nikitopoulos
I updated to the latest unstable release of smod. Still same problem, clients
get disconnected upon arriving to the server.I dunno if it is some other
problem with mani/eventscripts or the maps.Still trying to hash it out.

I also update gametxt file in Mani but I dont know any other gamadata files
to update.

So we,admins on this list are best available and only Valve is Official? If
this is true (which it probably is) why run your own server?
I mean you dont play on best avail servers right?

Re: [hlds_linux] L4D2 updates

2010-07-30 Thread tom nikitopoulos
Before the major update like maybe 2 months ago I was high on the horse. I
am small time (I run 10 boxes off of 5 ip's) I had a couple of decent
ranked stock l4d2 servers. I was thinking "oh yeah baby"- I was like a
little kid checking game-monitor.com every two days. Then after the update
monsoon (and maybe college kids leaving for summer) my decent ranked servers
went to crap.I thought I had done something wrong, but I wasnt sure. After
this I went on game-monitor.com and checked top ranked l4d2 servers and they
were all Valve servers. I was like wth? I realize that sv_region may have
needed some fixin but I dunno.

Steven,
" but work with us here to help provide a quality service to your customers
please!"

Who are the customers here? I don't charge for my servers. I not really
prepared to do so.
Does anybody here pay Valve for the right to run gameservers for Valve? Or
the downloads of files and updates?

My point is this- there is no leverage for Valve or Activision to do
anything but the way they wanna do it

Re: [hlds_linux] Illegal Instruction

2010-07-27 Thread tom nikitopoulos
Sorry man, do you really think they are gonna have a update for this?
Newer,faster,stronger,sleeker. Ebay,Ebay.
Go buy urself a dual core and give your colleagues a decent server to play
on.

I have a couple of old Compacs for sale with the Illegal Instruction at no
cost to you. The old Compacs are great to put on ur lap when u need a table
to eat on. Or maybe to hold a door open if its breezy outside.

They also make good weight in the back or your pickem'up truck in a harsh
Midwestern winter.

Yeehah.

[hlds_linux] ip in command line

2010-06-14 Thread tom nikitopoulos
Hi all,

I am still having problems logging in remotely thru game on css. Trying to
do different combinations to see if any thing works.
I have never used a ip in command line but when i do I get a bind error.

I associate port 27030 with my css server so if i do -ip or +ip I get
"cannot assign UDP port" server restart in 10 secs.

I notice when i do "status" in game my server is listed as a loopback
address

udp/ip 127.0.1.1 (guess):27030

Any ideas?

I have set ports 27000 thru 27200 udp and 27015 tcp on my router. I do not
believe rcon works so easy. Either it is communicating on a other port or
something is amiss .

[hlds_linux] rcon-mani-admin

2010-06-12 Thread tom nikitopoulos
Hello all,
Is there a server variable that has to be enabled for players to access rcon
thru console?
I cannot connect either thru rcon or mani to my css server.
Error message is "cannot connect to remote server"

I realize that there are support pages for mani and such but i thought it
might be a easy question.
notes
plugin_print brings up mani version
i have set up mani thru console on server
I do have a server config and I am using the right rcon password(even hlsw
doesnt seem to connect)

Thanks in advance

Do any of you have a concrete list of master server ips ?

[hlds_linux] diff directories?

2010-03-27 Thread tom nikitopoulos
i had a question.
Do most of you build systems with different server files in different
directories?
There is alot of theories on the web. I have a file named hlds and within
this file i have used the tag -dir . to download the files for l4d and l4d2
and so on.
I could of swore that one page i looked at said to download the server files
in different dirs.

Also, is there a chance that u can make a hard copy of the files and use
them to rebuild the servers in case of a hd crash or a os upgrade?
While the hlds download is very good-it can be time consuming.

[hlds_linux] custom maps/dedi servers left4dead2

2010-02-04 Thread tom nikitopoulos
is is possible to run a dedi server only with custom maps? i have dl'ed a
cpl of custom maps for my server and can start them with a command line.
When the server is listening the custom map gets scrapped when reservation
map request comes in. I have tried to set password on this server but cant
seem to logon.
Its weird i can logon on thru console to a remote server with rcon and pull
up like "stats" for instance but when i try to load custom map thru console
it loads map on my gaming comp-not remote server

i am getting some errors while running "no mercy2" but i dont think it is
the problem

is it possible to change map rotation to run only customs?

Re: [hlds_linux] Fwd: secure or insecure ?

2010-01-18 Thread tom nikitopoulos
i dont remember if putting -secure in the command line helped or not.
last week i ran 15 servers off of 4 diff boxes. pings spiked on all across 5
static ip's so i was wondering if the connection to the master might have
been the culprit but ur probably right-something is wrong on my end
im getting players on my servers but i dont worry about it. alot of times
status brings up (off top of head) insecure-(secure mode enabled) lost
connection to steam
that was really my main question

many times after the servers are running I notice that status brings up the
fact that i have lost connection to steam servers.
whats the difference? steam3? or (SU)
is this a problem or a inconvience?

i have opened ports 27000 thru 27200 cause im lazy
all boxes are running debby or ubuntu
i also notice pings going 2x every 15 minutes or so

do l4d servers check in with master on a regular basis?

2009-11-10 Thread tom nikitopoulos
thanks, but i have tried that. i have even tried to use parenthesis but it
has not worked either

command line off the top of head
./steam -command update -game Counter Strike-Source -dir

maybe something is messed up on my end.

[hlds_linux] steam binary---

2009-11-04 Thread tom nikitopoulos
sorry u guys but this might be a old topic but i am kinda new to the l4d
forums...
when starting some servers the steam bin cannot be found. i was online
before this undertaking and come to the conclusion that i should build the
individual servers in sep directories.is this true?
when i originally downloaded hldsupdatetool i installed it in dir hlds and
went from there. i have since downloaded the files for other source dedi's
and have downloaded them to different directories.
of course hldsupdatetool is still in the original directory(hlds)

will this be a problem? i mean the server still starts but of course gives
me a error of -cannot find ./steam-bin-
i have copied steam bin to the other dirs as a quick solution

2009-10-30 Thread tom nikitopoulos
must of been it! i saw this online and tried it but maybe i typed the wrong
map name.
server is now seen locallly
thanks for all of ur help.

now another question-
is there a variable that u can use in startup script that will locate dedi
server in a position best suited for matchmaking locales?
hldsupdatetool asked where the dedi server is located as in terms
geographically
is there a option to do this in linux?

2009-10-30 Thread tom nikitopoulos
tried to connect but fail. enabled console and connected locally (
192.168.1.101:27016) . 10 attempts and a fail.
do u have to spec a map?
just for fun i used the same config as l4d but didnt help.
i am using ubuntu server and do not think i have a ports issue as l4d 1 is
running fine.
have created a script with the commands (off top of head) -autoupdate
-console -port 27016 -game left4dead2 +exec server.cfg
thanks
