Re: [hlds_linux] (SPAM) -Re: srcds_i686 for orangebox?
I bet that it has to do something with Linux optimizations for fps. I mean, that it’s hard to find a windows server running stable in 1000fps and most of people run it on default 60fps. So here are your differences. Compile kernel in 1000Hz, add some boosts, 100tick and “boom”, cpu usage goes all the way up. I think he ment that srcds on Linux, especially Orangebox engine performs better on Windows than on Linux. No matter how good you tune up your system, Windows runs better and more slots than Linux on same hardware. Besides, TF2 doesn't support 100 tickrate servers or 33, only 66 which is default now. -ics Evaldas Žilinskas kirjoitti: I bet that it has to do something with Linux optimizations for fps. Re: [hlds_linux] (SPAM) -Re: srcds_i686 for orangebox?
I've done extensive amounts of tweaking. The difference between 100hz non-HPET 100 fps_max and 1000hz preeempt_rt + preemptable RCU with full HPET and even a special plugin that reduces the time the server sleeps on each frame loop is the difference between 70-85% CPU and 85-100% CPU on a 2.13GHz kentsfield core The reason linux FPS is much more stable/tweakable is because you can change so many aspects of the kernel timer/interrupts/HPET, while windows runs in a single ~66hz mode that is turned up by the 'media timer' by media apps like WMP or by special programs like 'srcdsfpsboost' You can get 70k+ FPS in windows with a special fpsbooster that decouples the frame loop from timer interrupts. So while the linux kernel can be tweaked more for the servers, the linux version of the software in general just runs worse. - Neph On Thu, Jun 5, 2008 at 11:34 AM, ics [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I think he ment that srcds on Linux, especially Orangebox engine performs better on Windows than on Linux.
