RE: [hlds_linux] [OT] Newb question about Linux..
Quick update - I did it this morning and everything went as smooth as can be. Had to reconfigure some hardware but that was it. Thanks for all the help. :) Joshua -Original Message- From: Marius [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Saturday, September 28, 2002 4:19 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [hlds_linux] [OT] Newb question about Linux.. My bet (i'm no Duron expert) is that the duron most probably would use the stock redhat kernel for i686, or just the same kernel as you are using today. If you are using GRUB as your bootloader that should do it (no need to rerun anything). So - go ahead swap the disk. Have fun. --- marius Joshua Gardiner wrote: Hiya, My current box is a PIII 550 running 256megs of ram. Can I just swap the hardware and boot the primary and RH will be peachy after it does its standard checks? Or will I be looking at a full reinstall and configuration of RH? :\ Thanks.. This might be hard for you do do since you don't have that much linux experience, but I'll explain it anyway... You don't need to reinstall everything but you might consider that if you don't know what I'm talking about in this mail. Compile a kernel with support for the new cpu and all other hardware, then swap the motherboards, cpu, ram and so on... After that start the the new computer up, you might need a rescue disk.
