Hi Bart, Bart King wrote: A little overkill for an 8 player server. You can run an 8 player server on a PIII 800. I run a 64 player CS:S server on a similar specification machine and it just about copes. Yeah it is a bit overkill but then it's only a virtual server; there are other websites etc being hosted elsewhere on the machine so I'm gonna take things slowly and see how it goes. Plus I prefer smaller deathmatch games so I don't really want that many players ;) You might want to investigate Mani Admin Plugin: www.mani-admin-plugin.com If you don't want to install MAP, you can fake the server's max player count by using sv_visiblemaxplayers. It's not an ideal solution, but it's something at least. Cool thanks. sv_visiblemaxplayers may well be enough... I'll give it a shot. HLSW, as someone pointed out is at http://www.hlsw.org. As the web site is currently broken (and has been for some time), use FTP (remember that?): ftp://ftp.hlsw.org:21/downloads/hlsw/hlsw_1_0_0_44_setup.exe Ahh great thanks. Seems to work fine. There are log parsers, none of which are decent. One that is looking promising (but not hit 1.0 milestone yet) is HLStatsX: www.hlstatsx.com. Cool I may well give it a try. :) sv_robust_explosions 0 This cvar doesn't exist? Yes it does; at least it does on Source servers. It would appear that the Steam client (since the recent server update) refuses to display the shield for "secure" servers that really are. Hi, just a few answers: * 2. Does anyone know of a decent rcon app for Windows that would enable me to run commands on the server without loading up Half Life 2 each time? HLSW http://hlsw.net/ * 3. Is there a decent log parser out there that'll generate HTML reports from logfiles? http://www.psychostats.com/ http://www.unitedadmins.com/index.php?p=content&content=hlstats sv_maxupdaterate 30 .. does this mean the maximum number of update packets to accept from a client per second? Is 30 ok to use and if so, why is the default 60? sv_maxupdaterate 101 the best imho. * 5. When I right click my server in the Steam list and click "View server info" I am told 'Valve Anti-Cheat: Not secure'. Is this anything to worry about? Can I make it 'secure'? If you see the VAC2 logo on loading there arent any problem, it's a new bug when u dont see in serverbrowser. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
[hlds_linux] Lots of (newcomer) questions
Hi all, I'm new to the list so howdy all :) I've just been given permission by my boss to set up a Source server on our core network. It's a Fedora Core 3 Linux (v)server with Dual Xeon 3.00Ghzs and 2GB RAM so I'm pretty chuffed about it. I have a few questions that I'd be really grateful if anyone can shed some light on... * 1. Is it possible to setup the server in some way so that any player with rcon access can burst the maxplayers value. To clarify, I have maxplayers currently set at 8 but I would quite like to be able to join the game myself even if 8 people are playing on the server. Any ideas? Failing that, is there a way to kick a player and give them a message similar to 'Sorry but the server admin wants to play' :) * 2. Does anyone know of a decent rcon app for Windows that would enable me to run commands on the server without loading up Half Life 2 each time? * 3. Is there a decent log parser out there that'll generate HTML reports from logfiles? * 4. After reading the following article ... http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=108 I have added the following to my server.cfg: sv_maxrate <= I assume these correspond to the client-side 'rate' sv_minrate 5000 What is the point of setting a sv_minrate? sv_maxupdaterate 30 .. does this mean the maximum number of update packets to accept from a client per second? Is 30 ok to use and if so, why is the default 60? sv_robust_explosions 0 ... does this really make any difference and is the graphical effect of 0 noticeable? * 5. When I right click my server in the Steam list and click "View server info" I am told 'Valve Anti-Cheat: Not secure'. Is this anything to worry about? Can I make it 'secure'? * 6. I'm having problems setting up a HL2 CTF server (www.hl2ctf.com). I've unzipped the files into 'hl2ctf' off the main server directory (the directory with 'srcds_run' in) but when I run it, things go a bit screwy. It seems to only load in the deathmatch files but then tries to load the ctf map... ./srcds_run -game hl2ctf +map ctf_raven . Game.dll loaded for "Half-Life 2 Deathmatch" . Unknown command "play" . Attempted to create unknown entity type ctf_combine_flag! Can't init ctf_combine_flag Unknown command "ctf_capturelimit" Am I missing the obvious here? Thanks in advance for any help given. -- Ben (Combatter) www.benkennish.co.uk ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
