Re: [hlds_linux] Mutliple processes per server?

2005-06-27 Thread William Warren

hlguard 1.72 is going to spawn multiple threads if you are using
the steambans module..this is not a bug..steambans devs have
their code directly integrated with hlgaurd 1.72. This is normal
operation.

Josh wrote:

I'll take it off and see if I still get multiple threads. There's apparently
a newer version of hlguard out that fixes this, I'll test that too if it is
loaded and is the problem.

I've scanned briefly through the past couple weeks posts and have not
seen
any mention on multiple processes per instance of hlds. I'm currently
seeing
3 separate hlds_i686 processes for each hlds_run process started. Is
this a
new feature? I'm not getting any notification of failure to bind to port
for
the other two processes so I am working now under the assumption that
this
is intentional on valve's part. I haven't seen any performance issues
from
this as yet. If this is not intentional then is anyone else seeing this
as
well?

This is a HLGuard bug. You're most likely running HLGuard :)

Let me dig through the configs tonight, someone may have put the hlguard
module in to load. I'll write back after I verify, but I am not currently
aware of anyone of them using it.

Certain plugins support multiple threads, so what you're seeing is just
a thread, not a process. I know Webmod does for one. I see three
instances reported in 'top', but it doesn't mean three times the
resources are being used.
