After all, when these lists were started.
VALVe didnt have a forums, or social media website.

To be honest.
These lists are kind of obsolete now that I think about it.

With the forums right there. And all of the Developer Announcements already
right there.

Maybe it is time to end the lists. After all they are not needed anymore
with Steam forums announcements.
And dedicated forums for HLDS/SRCDS already there.

What do you think Gabe, Eric, and Erik?

Noting the ineffectiveness of the upgraded ( hull armor ) Abrams tank in

As well as assessing target damage of a recent bombing run.
While reviewing casualty reports of Ukrainians KIA by Russian Federation

A lot of Stolen Valor around VALVe and on these lists.

Like how it went from REAKTOR to Steam.

Anyone here remember Alfred, remember back in 2001 to 2003?
The time the list allegedly got hit by a Virus?
The worlds first encryption virus / ransomware was what VALVe got hit with.

Or when someone at VALVe downloaded that virus through a link.
And it backdoored HL2 Alpha files from their network?

Yeah.
Valve has stolen much, and made quite a few Enemies over the years.
Including their ex developers.
For a lot of Intellectual Property Theft.

I point that out. Cause Alfred is gone.
And the people there today, are the worst in the industry.
With the sloppiest mash up of mixed programming in the history of a
software developer.

That said.
Decompile VALVes stuff sometime ( I Recommend HxD decompiler, freeware
hexadecimal / machine assembly editor / programming tool ).

You will see Quake 2 code still in GoldSRC.
You will see HAVOKS physics still in Source.
Havok was the real genius behind the physics engine.

Anyone remember how it went from WON slow updating, to REAKTOR development?
OR how Reaktor became Steam?
Not Grid, not Gazelle.

REAKTOR.

Shows how much theft, misinformation, and disinformation is out there about
the factual Developer(s) of Steam platform. Versus the Staff at Valve who
stole the concept, and profited off of it.

Stole all of the communities concepts over the years.

I can see why everyone cheats in cs2.
Or hacks the platform, and rips them off for every game title on the
platform.

Why the platform is being exploited all of the time.

Its ok though, a Master never reveals everything.
And not just anyone can speak 1 and 0 fluently.
Nor knows what Binary Logic Controller programming using boolean algebra is.

I digress.

Yall be safe with all that wide open script kiddy engine shit over there.
Cause the engine for the Client, the Steam Client, HLDS/SRCDS can all be
used as points of attack for anything connected to the Steam network.

End Contact.

A few months later, someone on this list stole that POC.

Made the bitmap, and got paid by VALVe for an exploit I found.

I want that person to respond to this msg.
And admit they are a Thief.

I have a number of other exploits.
That I never revealed to VALVe or these lists.

A Master will never disclose the full knowledge in front of amateurs.

I will state this.

HLDS / SRCDS can be used to inject any client with anything.
HLDS / SRCDS can be used to inject STEAM PLATFORM with anything. ( Token
Auth Server / VAC ).

And any MAP, MODEL, SKIN, SPRITE, TEXTURE, OR even just a simple resource
file.

CAN ALL HAVE MALICIOUS PROGRAMMING EMBEDDED INTO THEM.

Just like the Spraypaint exploit.
Malicious Programming can be embedded into any image file, texture file,
model file, material file, map file.

Or in just a malformed packet / file.
And transmitted from the HLDS / SRCDS.

Now, I dare ya. Try to steal this one and get paid for it on HackerOne.

Thats the difference between an Applied Physicist and rank amateurs.

Oh wait it's not that bad! The file 'liblist.gam' is back to the default.

So only thing you have to do (when running metamod) is adding it again
in the liblist.gam in the cstrike folder:

Change:
gamedll "dlls\mp.dll"
gamedll_linux "dlls/cs.so"
gamedll_osx "dlls/cs.dylib"

To:
gamedll_linux "addons/metamod/dlls/metamod_i386.so"

And then all is working again :)

Cheers,

[hlds_linux] Re: Mandatory Team Fortress 2 update released

2023-07-20 Thread Gael Coral
Hi Eric,

Thank you for the fixes included in this update.
However, I've noticed that in VSH matches, the Glicko skill rating system is
used. It doesn't seem to make much sense to use this system as MMR can be
easily lost, leading to an imbalance in the system.
I hope this can be fixed soon.

Best regards, Gael.

Re: [hlds_linux] Re: [Csgo_servers] Counter-Strike 2 Test Dedicated Server?

2023-03-24 Thread Sam V
Valve announced on the csgo_servers mailing list they were upgrading to
newer compilers a while back. I've included the post here:

   1.38.5.2 update - SteamRT v3 sniper - are you ready? /Vitaliy
   Genkin/ 03 Feb 2023 17:54 UTC

Game update 1.38.5.2 introduced several Linux libraries compiled
with GCC-5 or later. While we didn't expect any ABI
incompatibilities, some community dedicated server systems needed to
update their libstdc++ installation. Generally speaking, if your
dedicated server is running on an older Linux OS, you should be able
to recompile your libraries with a more recent version of GCC and
add your library path to LD_PRELOAD. For example, libraries
recompiled with GCC-9.3.0 worked well on CentOS7 for some community
   server operators.

Going forward, we are planning to update our Linux compiler
toolchain for dedicated servers with more recent libraries. Future
libraries update will bump the requirements up to glibc 2.31 (Ubuntu
20.04 / Debian 11), that's why we are reaching out to community
server operators now and advising to upgrade production Linux OS
   installations ahead of time.

The best option for operating community dedicated servers will be to
host a Docker container on your Linux OS, even though running
servers in an 'as is' fashion on a suitably recent Linux
distribution with recent libraries might also work.

A future update to our dedicated servers will be compiled against
the sniper platform runtime, which we already publish here:
   https://gitlab.steamos.cloud/steamrt/sniper/platform/container_registry/95

Using the sniper image runtime on community dedicated servers has
the advantage that we will build our dedicated servers exactly for
this target, and as long as the host Linux OS can run this Docker
container, server operators will not have to deal with any ABI
   compatibility issues.

We recommend that server operators should start preparing to run
community dedicated servers using a suitable Linux OS & Docker
solution. Server operators should be able to start using the sniper
runtime image now, which is available here:
   https://gitlab.steamos.cloud/steamrt/sniper/platform/container_registry/95
... just run the current dedicated servers in it, and this will
guarantee that your dedicated servers will be ready to run future
   updates when they are released.

   GL HF!

It implies the need for community servers to get off any old Linux

It also seems to emphasize a long-term strategy to move dedicated
servers to Docker containers, instead of running directly on the OS.

As I said, not sure about the reliability of the information.

So if I can correctly from the discussion so far in this thread, setting
net_disconnect_reason on server side, is basically just for the purpose of
having the reason show up in the server side logs?

[hlds_linux] Re: Wierd issue with MetaMod:Source after recent CS:GO update (2021-04-28?)

2021-05-02 Thread Mecha Weasel
Updated resolution here:
https://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?p=2745732

Basically, specify extension (.dll or .so as appropriate to platform) in
the metamod.vdf file.
Seems like something changed handling of that in CS:GO server.

Does not seem to be necessary to that in the sourcemod.vdf file though.

Little foolish - sure :P no one's going to hate you for it. It's
pretty clear they have MPD and are seeking attention. I'm a little
surprised no one's dropped their mail like last time.

Think you can help us out Milton with who the current mail-admin is?
There's like 150 email that's just attention-seeking about not
shipping amd64 binaries for the steam client, which is ridiculous to
begin with as GCFs are long gone and it's raw disk-thrashing files.

Best,
Kyle.

Assuming those emails weren't faked (and I have no reason to believe so unless
evidence to the contrary appears), I believe you are correct. I will still try
to remain neutral until this potentially legal conflict if Stephanie is
correct/flamewar if not (which seems more likely, due to given evidence), has
been resolved, and we can go back to relevant discussion.

Good now I have a target list for prosecution of International Harassment.

And no this isn't Stealth.
But she is definitely one of my friends, and associates.

I live in Switzerland. Stealth lives in the United States.

However, your harassment on these lists is now documented.

I suggest you go speak to your therapists. Before you wind up getting
arrested.

For an email list that you do not own. And harassing people on these lists.

Would you like your FBI to visit you? Or Interpol?
Because I can now make the argument of attempted CYBERBULLYING.

Oscar. It writes a file to the HDD / SSD. That's what turns on the
encryption in the cmos / bios / firmware.

It is always best to completely wipe to make sure nothing is hiding.

But hey, I've recovered quite a few companies servers alreadyby all

It was just advice, freely given. Which I usually charge $35. - $75. / hr.

Whilst I agree with most of what you said, flashing the BIOS is definitely
overkill. Reinstalling the bootloader isn't, but I also doubt 0 formatting
is necessary - your OS isn't going to be executing code from hard drive
sectors before it's (over)written them, I hope.

Whoops.

Forgot a step there.
In between flashing the bios, and reimaging the OSwalking 1, and 0
format the hdd/ssd.

This all will wipe out everything that might be infecting your system. Make
sure to make backups weekly. And keep them off the network so they cannot
be compromised / corrupted.

Due to technical constraints if you choose to opt-out of the 1097
Beta for your server during the beta using the standard update
command on SteamCMD will not work correctly to return your previous
settings and will require a fresh install of the 1096 server files.

If you intend to switch between Live 1096 and EOS Beta 1097 for your
servers,*we strongly recommend you backup your server INI files prior
to updating to 1097 to ensure you don’t encounter any issues
restoring your server back to prior versions.*

Additionally, for Windows Server admins, there is a new
redistributable dependency you’ll need to have installed for the new
EOS server to run:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Update 3 RC

Many of you may already have this installed on your machines but in
case you run into missing DLLs errors, this should resolve that.
Linux admins should be unaffected by this change. We’re working on an
automated solution as part of the final release version.

[hlds_linux] Re: Source 2007 - Not able to connect to Steam?

2020-04-07 Thread Benjamin Anderson
For anyone who's interested I found the solution to this problem, as
bizarre as it may be...

If you're running a single-core server, VAC does not connect. Migrating
to a dual-core or higher cloud instance resolved the issue.

I confirmed that by again rebuilding the server, confirming the issue on
a single-core VPS, and then confirming that migrating to a dual-core one
fixed it again (Using OpenStack/KVM as the hypervisor). I also confirmed
the same thing locally (using VirtualBox).

Literally everything else worked fine though. VAC is weird...

On 3/30/20 9:10 PM, Benjamin Anderson wrote:

Hello there,

We used to be able to run a Source 2007 server perfectly through Wine
(the native server doesn't seem to play well with recent Linux distros
any more). To get an idea of what my setup looks like, I wrote the guide
at the GE:S wiki -- https://wiki.geshl2.com/goldeneye/server_install_linux

However, over the past month or so the server has stopped being able to
connect to Steam, meaning it is not VAC-enabled and isn't listed on the
master server.

This has been independently verified by another person, and I've tried
testing in clean Ubuntu installs, Debian, etc. I've even tried the
native Linux binary on an older distro without success. Windows
continues to work fine, however.

The only clue is I find these log entries in [SrcDS 2007
root]/logs/connection_log_27015.txt:

Managed to snatch this: edicts  : 1839 used of 2048 max

2019-05-27 Thread Kyle Sanderson
Any update on this team? I'm tired of using a Webkit 0day to accomplish the
previous media behavior in Valve games as it feels dirty and wrong. Feel
free to call me if I can help address any concerns in regards to playing
any kind of audio in relation to the new cef versions that have shipped
without the one-line fix.

Still broken team 2 months later :( As a result I have horrible UX now
as users need to click into a visible window for audio to
automatically kick on and then disappear... every single map change...
making the commands not as helpful as they were.

This is looking like a simple one-liner,
`command_line->AppendSwitchWithValue("autoplay-policy",
"no-user-gesture-required");`. More than happy to commit this myself;
alternatively please let me know when someone internally can resolve
this easy issue :-).

He's not even getting the engine loaded, let alone attempting the
gamedll load due to the GLIBC dependency issue. As noted, it's likely
from using the client files, rather than the server files (the _srv
bins) that don't have as new of a version required (at least if similar
tf/cstrike/dod/hl2mp).

Any chance for players that don't have it to be able to change their FoV to
110 as well, or do they need really need to buy this to have an advantage
over other players? :)

The Oculus is currently 1280x800, which is then split between 2 eyes, it
makes for a fuzzy game. It would not be any fun for CS:S right now, once
the resolution of the devices increases then maybe that changes (and they
are promising increasing resolutions).

No big surprise that after over four years the link below is dead, huh?
Does anyone still have the file dlfile-boffix_1.3.zip (or the contents) in
some dark and dusty corner of their hard drive? I'd appreciate if you
could make it available, thanks!

This is a updated fix, FEEDBACK!
Finally got some time to get some more done on it,
 lemme know how it worx.

 includes:
dlfile-boffix.c - source of boffix + dlfile fix.
dlfile_single.c - Standalone source for just dlfile
 fix.
 Readme.txt - Readme...
dlfile.txt - List of files to block..
 dlfile-boffix_i386.so - dlfile-boffix.c(compiled.)
 (boffix dlfile fix).

I tested this alot, but I am sure I missed something
:). Find a way around it or any bugs with it, it
would be good to know ;).

Enjoy, hopefully this will handle what needs to be
 done.

And I haven't been watching these list/updates from
valve, so if there is a fix from valve from 3.1.1.x
 servers, just ignore this.

and dusty corner of their hard drive? I'd appreciate if you could make it
available, thanks!

I think it would be better for those that know how to use mIRC and enjoy

back onto the topic of HLDS! has anyone got a good fix for hz timers in
debian ... my hz timer is already at 1000 however i'm still experiencing
the 1.6 hlds not being able to reach over 200 fps.

 I would recommend:
 Windows - mIRC + NoNameScript
or Pidgin IM (Trillian-like multi-network IM program, supports IRC)

Linux - Xchat (simple GUI IRC Client)
or irssi as mentioned, console gui, very functional
or kvirc fancier more feature-rich client. Uses qt. I use this.
or Pidgin (Mainly if you're not a heavy IRC User and plan to use it
 for IM needs as well)

32x servers on the internet tab, and that number will only grow. I'm
tempted to join them, if we're just going to allow the free publicity

[hlds_linux] RE: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server updated

2008-02-29 Thread Eric Smith
We've fixed the problem with 24 player servers not being listed properly in
the Custom tab by the Master Servers. Sorry about that.

Servers with increased player limits are being listed as Custom servers because
the stated systems specs for TF2 clients are designed around a maximum of 24
players. We cannot guarantee performance, and hence the quality of the
experience, for a player with a low end machine when they play on servers with
 24 players.

Yeah more filters on the Internet tag would be a much better idea. I doubt
many 25+ player server admins will like having their servers outsourced to a
second rate Custom tab. Not that we haven't bypassed this already but for
how long? And why not have a nice compromise where everyone wins? Hmm Valve
works in mysterious ways.

 rules
   they want to play

Initial release of Tournament mode (mp_tournament)
   - UI for handling team naming, ready mode, and win results
   - Disables team player limits, autobalancing, and intermission

   - Fixed mp_timelimit ending the map during the middle of a round on
 maps
   like Dustbowl and GravelPit
   - Fixed lastdisguise command not remembering if you were disguised
 as
   your own team
   - Added Toggle Disguise Team binding in Options-Keyboard to toggle
the disguise team for the Spy's PDA
   - Changed PDA menus to accept keys bound to slot1, slot2, etc.,
 and

   - Fixed Spectator targetID not using team colors
   - Changed team autobalance code to not balance the teams when the
 active
round timer shows less than 60 seconds
   - Fixed -maxplayers on the command line not correctly setting the
   maxplayers value for the server

   instead of blinking out
   - Fixed potential client crash for players being healed by a Medic or
   dispenser

3 = spectate only your team, first-person or chase-cam

After Thursday's update I found that almost every custom map we have
installed on the server would crash the server as soon as a player chose
a team to join (after a map change).

These are the maps that would crash our server as described above EVERY
TIME:
cp_wolf
cp_420_crazed__arena_v2
cp_horus_b3
cp_orange_x
ctf_canyon_final
ctf_stronghold_b5
ctf_valley

Setting mp_forcecamera to 3 stopped the crashes. I had it set to
mp_forcecamera 0 originally.

Since 3 is apparently the default I just commented out the
mp_forcecamera cvar in server.cfg and rebooted the servers.

Now to try to figure out why custom map files are being changed.

Between all these unexpected gotchas, the load TF2 instances put on our
server hardware, and attitude of so many of this game's players, we are
really starting to question running this game at all.

We only have 2 servers, one is okay , the other crashes every 10
minutes
or so when full. We are running them both on linux and both have the
latest beetlesmod (53b). No other mods / addons installed. Both on the
 same hardware aswell.

Very strange how one crashes and one doesn't.

This was under windows server 2003 and running the new badlands
map.

It seems people are getting it on both windows and linux servers,
running any map and with or without plugins.

Anyway, it's time for us European people to get some sleep.. I can
barely keep my eyes open. :P

Will be taking a closer look in the morning.

I have 3 tf2 servers on Win2k3 box, all running sourcemod with some
various plugins, 2 are running plr, one standard 24slot and all are
running fine, only thing ive noticed is from the start they are
eating
~200MB memory where usually that didn't happen till 30 min into a
map.

Also, awesome job on Badlands, different and way better than the
original and the standard tf2 gameplay.

[hlds_linux] RE: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server Updated

2008-02-15 Thread Eric Smith
The first three values mirror the behavior in Counter-Strike Source and
other Valve games:

0 = spectate all players, all modes

1 = spectate only your team, and only first-person

2 = no spectating when you die

The new value is 3, and this is the default value for TF2 (unless you
override it in your server.cfg). This behavior is what everyone is used
to for TF2:

3 = spectate only your team, first-person or chase-cam

mp_forcecamera does not restrict players on team Spectator...only
players who are on RED or BLU.

[hlds_linux] RE: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server Updated

2008-02-14 Thread Jason Ruymen
We fixed the problem with SourceTV taking up a real slot on the server,
but there is a bug with this if you set tv_enable from a .cfg or script
file. To be able to run with SourceTV and have it not take up a player
slot, you need to have +tv_enable 1 on your command line rather than
setting it with a .cfg after the server has started.

This will be fixed with the Server tag beta.

Subject: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server Updated

Required updates for Team Fortress 2 and it's dedicated servers have
finally been released. Please run hldsupdatetool to receive these
updates. The specific changes include:

Source Engine:
- Refactored how lightmaps are downloaded to the graphics card at level
load. On some hardware configurations this can lower level load times
significantly
- Optimized some particle systems to improve performance on some
hardware configurations
- Player stats are now sent up as they change, rather than when the
player dies
- Improved playback of sub-frame sounds
- Fixed a crash caused by alt-tabs during map load
- Eliminated unnecessary temporary memory allocation in scenefilecache

Team Fortress 2:
- Badlands released
- Changes to Dustbowl
- Added a new access point to the stage2 attacker gates
(drop-down left from spawn), allowing attackers a way to reach the left
route without being subjected to the spam and sentry gun fire
- Fixed a gap in stage 3, cap 1 that allowed a player with to
wiggle above the ceiling clip
- Fixed a gap behind stage 1, cap 1 house
- Fixed a high perch on stage1 cap1 house roof
- Fixed a perch offering view of nodraw textures and the skybox
(stage1 cap2 rock barrier)
- Fixed a few places where rockets/demoman pipes could pass
through non-solid models
- Sealed up a gap over stage1 lower startgate
- Clipped off tall windows in stage 3 to prevent sentry guns
from behind built behind them
- Changes to Capture the Flag Well
- Fixed trains not starting on map spawn
- Removed cap association from red spawns that were
spamming console
- Changes to Granary
- Removed spawn timing advantage from the middle (from
-3 to 0)
- Fixed several model perch exploits (red, blue cp1 gate
and blue cp2 gate pipe)
- Fixed a few places where players could get stuck
between containers and silos
- Adjusted playerclips on red container that made it
appear like players were floating
- Added a small delay (200 ms) before a zoomed sniper shot can
get a critical hit
- Added server side convar mp_fadetoblack. Same functionality as
Counter-Strike, used mainly during in-person tournaments and LAN events
- Added flamethrower sizzle sound when the Pyro is hitting a
target
- Updated explosion debris to be a bit darker
- Fixed idle players not being kicked from the server if
mp_allowspectators was set to 0
- Added ctf_well to the default mapcycle.txt file
- Added ctf_well to the default motd.txt file
- Fixed floor tile material type
- Fixed some weapon damage info missing from TF2 game stats
- Made some small changes to the Demoman viewmodel that were
causing performance problems
- Added a new timer to the HUD to show the value of
mp_timelimit. This is useful if you're playing a timed match on 2Fort,
where you only set a timelimit on the server and no other win
conditions.
- Added server log entry for buildings destroyed by their owner
- Fixed sentry gun shadows being clipped
- Updated glass material

SourceTV:
- SourceTV now uses a hidden slot on the game server. This allows for 24
player servers to also have a SourceTV proxy connected to it
- Fixed Pyro's flamethrower flames not showing up in SourceTV

Hello,

I'm having serious problems with all the Counter-Strike 1.6 servers of
our gaming community. The servers (four) have been running without any
problems for over the past 4 months. Yesterday we decided to do some
major maintenance e.g. upgrading all the plugins and adding a new one.
And to sum up the current situation, it's completely f.u.b.a.r.

Our most popular server keeps crashing and the other servers also but
less frequently. I've already restored a backup of the servers but the
problem continues. The backups consists of the complete addons folder,
plus autoexec.cfg, liblist.gam, mapcycle.txt, motd.txt and
server.cfg from the cstrike folder. This backup was made on the 17th
of October last year and is the setup that has been running without any
problems. I have tried both fresh installations of AMX Mod X 1.8.0 and
1.76d. With AMX Mod X 1.8.0 the crashes are more frequent. The last
thing in the logfile before crashing is a line with segmentation fault.

As you can see below I'm not running an exotic setup. It is a basic
setup of AMX Mod X 1.76d and a few custom plugins. Please note that this
particular configuration is a backup of a setup that has been working
for months without any crashes or other problems. I've already tried
everything that I could think of over the past two days. I've used
compiled version of all the plugins, recompiled them myself, did clean
installs of everything, checked all the configuration files. So I'm all
out of ideas.

These are the specifications of the server:

- Two AMD Opteron 275 processors
- Tyan Thunder K8SD Pro motherboard
- Four 1 GB, ECC memory modules
- Ubuntu Linux operation system

Hello,

There was another crash. I've updated both log files. As you can see the
second crash was also preceded by a report of a person that has been
kicked with a non-verified Steam ID. Could this be the pattern? And I'm
running the server now without MetaMod and AMX Mod X (restored the
liblist.gam file).

2008-01-23 Thread Steve S.
I run the steambans plug on both my CS and TF2 servers without issues,
they are both solid.

I can now say that it is SteamBans plugin too, I disabled it at our
 servers and no more restarts.

Hmm.. I have seen that too.

Do you have the steambans plugin installed? Got rid of all crashes when
 I
 disabled the steamban plugin.

I was about to report it to SB, but apperently I forgot about it. =)

[hlds_linux] Re: 1. What is your cpu load?

2008-01-19 Thread Kveri

Hello,
I'm using 2 computers: 1. 2 dual core xeons 5030 2,67GHz, 2. 2 quad core
xeons E5335 2GHz, but first one is with HyperThreading so it has 8
logical (not psychical) cores (2x dual core = 4 x 2 = 8 for HT), and
second one isn't with HyperThreading so it has 8 cores (psychical AND
logical) too because 4x2 = 8 no HT. Setting one task to one core is
better, on the first computer i'm running about 30 counter-strike 1.6
servers, fps 333 (linux kernel 333) and all is going well load around
8-12 CPU around 30% in high traffic. On second I wish to run 8 (or 16)
high quality servers with 1000FPS, 8 because there is 8 psychical cores
and i think, if every server has his own core, than FPS will be still
1000 at every server... am i right?

1. Debian 2.6.18-5-686 #1 SMP Wed Oct 3 00:12:50 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

Hi, just a suggestion, try using taskset to force the process(es) to a
single core, see here http://linux.die.net/man/1/taskset as I've noticed
sometimes it will try and run both threads on the same core and lagout
drop fps, however once set to thier own core [taskset -pc CORE# PID] (and
assuming they don't crash and thier PID changes), two TF2 servers can live
quite happily as ours do on a dual core system.

We have systems equipped with a AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor
4400+. Each system is running two 24 slot tf2 servers, that is one tf2
server per cpu core. The average cpu load per core is about 67-73% but
in worst case we can se them go as high
as 80-90%. While this is high load it is not noticeable laggy in-game,
however the server is really struggling maintaining the 300 maxfps. It
frequently drops to about 50 which makes me think, do we have a problem
- perhaps with bad server or kernel settings?

Before we investigate this further I'd like to get a feel of what the
normal load should be and what kind of hardware is required for a 24
slot tf2 server so please post your hardware details and cpu load so we
can compare.

mp_maxrounds works fine on my server.

You probably have mp_winlimit, and mp_winlimit need to be fixed.

2007/12/22, Gareth Williamson [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Just tested dustbowl with mp_maxrounds 2

Each cap point is still being counted as a round cap, so first two cap
points to be taken and then map change.

 .cfg files for maps work

Hope a fix comes soon for dustbowl, thanks for trying.

---
Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be
applied
automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific
changes
 include:

 Team Fortress 2

 * Restricted sound engine updates to a max of 100fps
 * Fixed the problem with mp_maxrounds not correctly counting the
number of
rounds for Dustbowl after the scoring change
 * Fixed cloaked/disguised/disguising spy reporting his achievements to
 everyone else
 * Added the ability for servers to have map-specific .cfg files in the
cfg
folder (missed in yesterday's release notes)

Re: [hlds_linux] Re: About srcds_i486 (tf2) process priority

2007-12-21 Thread Andrius Pirus
Ok. I see. Thanks for info. NI valude is really 0 for
srcds_i486 (when using command top), but priority
shows as -3. But for almost all other processes it is
20 (also cs 1.6 servers). I remember one time i used
command taskset -c (to assign srcds_i486 process to use
only one core), but then i changed back it to default
(all cores used, no taskset -c in startup line). But it
couldn't be related with proccess priority, cause
server and proccesses was restarted several times with
default startup line..

Quoting Devin Carlson [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
the lower the priority the more important the
process in regards to
 CPU
time (which allows it to get cpu time above other
processes), you can
specify this with a command line argument (nice or
renice once it is
running) i don't know of any hard coded scheduling
present in the srcds
process, typically this is handled by the kernel
unless otherwise
 specified
 (nice or renice).

-3 should be ok tho, is is a higher priority but it
can go as low as -20
 so
 it's not that bad?

set automatically by

 Dear Saint K.,

thanks for your offer; I have tried your command line parameters with
the same result. However, I find that if I specify another map (cp_well
e.g.) on the command line, the client does NOT crash, which is really
weird. I will try tonight with some other clients with some of my friends.

One more question: Why is it necessary for me to specify a map on the
command line? Shouldn't the server simply read the first map from the
 cycle? Does cycling still work?

Finally, which admin tools do you use on your servers?

 Thanks!

 Philip

 Hi,

 This is our start line on Debian;

 ./srcds_run -game tf +ip 85.17.60.96 -port 27035 +maxplayers 24 +map

This is what you require to bring up the server.

Once you done that, past the IP of your server to this list, and I'll

 have a

try on joining It to see if your crash is client or server related.

Onderwerp: [hlds_linux] TF2 Server on Debian - Startup problems

 Dear all,

I am setting up a TF2 server on a debian machine. Installation worked
fine so far. However, I am confused as to

 a) why my *client* crashes each time I connect to the server
 b) how to start the server using a mapcycle

I installed the server as follows:

 wget http://www.steampowered.com/download/hldsupdatetool.bin
 chmod +x hldsupdatetool.bin
 ./hldsupdatetool.bin
 ./steam
 ./steam -command update -game hl2mp -dir . -verify_all
./steam -command update -game tf -dir . -verify_all

Afterwards, I start the server as follows:

 cd orangebox
 ./srcds_run -console -game tf +ip XX.XX.XX.XX +map ctf_2fort

The server then starts up and shows the following information last:

 Connection to Steam servers successful.
   VAC secure mode is activated.

I can then connect to the server, however my client crashes just before
entering the game (after sending client information...). (this is my
 question a)).

 If I

Re: [hlds_linux] Re: About srcds_i486 (tf2) process priority

2007-12-20 Thread Michael McKoy
The actual priority and the niced priority are different. The priority changes
all the time, while the niced value is used to force it to a certain level.

Make sure you're reading the niced column. Tasks using CPU will generally have
a lower value (lower number = higher priority) than ones not doing anything.

Regarding the client crash, it *seems* to be working now with cp_well,
for whatever reason, and as I don't really care about the first map I
 stick to that.

Thanks again everybody for your fast answers!

try to clean up user's steamapps folder (clientregistry.blob/ custom maps
