Watch out, Alfred, the media's going to be hounding you like crazy, demanding answers for your contribution to atrocities experienced by 14-year-olds everywhere. Or even worse, chickenmod. "I was turned into chicken! *looks around uneasily* Well, I got better..." It also takes a kinda ignorant client not to have certain setting in an ingame executable file. Really? Name one that does this. I have a friend. (yes, really, I do) I've recently introduced him to Half-Life. He loves the game. He is fairly smart, much better than your average user. So, I ask him to play some HLDM with me. He's never done this before, so he connects to my server. Now, he hadn't changed his name from 'Player'. Didn't change it for the whole game. The next time I see him at school, he asks me, "Dude, how do I change my name?". Happened to me, too, first time I played multi. I changed it realll quick. At least I never fell for the old "type in 'kill' to slay other people" newbie scam... If people screw up, go ahead. All that matters is if they learn from their mistake(s). --agenthh ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

Its simple. The admin has every right to do this w/ clients. Is it just? is it right? probably not. If the various clients don't like it, they can stop going to his server. Enough clients don't like it, then he will have an empty server. If not, then oh well. Also, other server admins also have every right to filter affected players out of their servers by one way or another. This isn't a complicated subject people. drop it. nuff said. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

I wouldn't want to put the ethics of an attourney that would take this case on show... just something that sue happy citizens seem to default too when angry. Most of the other clans I play with. Several of them multi-clan so they keep seperate configs for that. Name is definately one of the parameters we keep. Can't go play a [FOO] match when your flying ``BAR clan. RE: [hlds_linux] Your opinion
I think he has the *right* to do it, and if people keep coming back to his servers, then its ok with the public. Survival of the fittest so to speak. I would fight fire w/ fire and either use adminmod to not allow players under that name in, or use the same thing he does and write a rule to change their names to "I advertise often" or something like that. No reason to think about this for all that long. Just adapt and move on. kev ->-Original Message- ->From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ->[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Matt ->Sent: Wednesday, February 05, 2003 12:19 PM ->To: hlds ->Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] Your opinion -> -> -> ->> ->> This is wrong.
