Re: [SPAM] [hlds_linux] high CPU usage on renice

2007-04-05 Thread kama

What version of redhat do you use as the linux_base?

I went from rh-9 and fc to gentoo. Dont use gentoo 2005.1 though.. It will
generate memory corruption messages. 2006.x works good...

libc6 (2.3.6.ds1-13) is fixing the lag issue itself.
It doesnt really matter, to what the net_queuesplit is set.

RE: [SPAM] [hlds_linux] high CPU usage on renice

We are running testwise some servers with this new setting, and it
deffinitely fixed the FPS Ping issue on our Debian Sarge systems. Still I
hope Valve will *implement* this fix inside the software code itself.

Cheers,

net_queuesplits = 5

RE: [SPAM] [hlds_linux] high CPU usage on renice

2007-03-29 Thread Alfred Reynolds
It does what it says :) It does a usleep() (under Linux) when you send a
packet to a client needs to be split into sub packets (i.e more than 1400 bytes
of data), if you need more than 5 parts then sleep after sending 5.

This will mean slightly higher network spikes during round restart and when
grenades go off, it should actually give a better user experience as long as
your sv_maxrate is set high enough (so you don't choke packets).

RE: [SPAM] [hlds_linux] high CPU usage on renice

2007-03-28 Thread Alfred Reynolds
After going back over the archives and re-reading the lag emails I am further
convinced that setting net_queuesplits to 0 will solve any lag problems you
may see. I want to wait for more people to try this fix (and for it to pan out
over a couple days) but if reports are positive then we will programmatically
fix this problem (without the need of a manual cvar change).

where exactly should we put net_queuesplits ? Server.cfg, start command or

Re: [SPAM] [hlds_linux] high CPU usage on renice

2007-03-28 Thread W0kk3L

Just add it to your server.cfg. It's a regular cvar.

Hi guys,

where exactly should we put net_queuesplits ? Server.cfg, start command or
anywhere else? Thanks a lot.

Cheers,
Michael

After going back over the archives and re-reading the lag emails I am
further convinced that setting net_queuesplits to 0 will solve any lag
problems you may see. I want to wait for more people to try this fix (and
for it to pan out over a couple days) but if reports are positive then we
will programmatically fix this problem (without the need of a manual cvar
change).

I'm testing this cvar with a 0 value and a -20 renice on two of our

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
I have also run into this issue. I had a script in place that would
automatically renice the srcds process to -20, which worked great. Somewhere
down the line, that functionality broke, and whenever I use -20 (or anything
lower than 0 actually) it spikes to 100% CPU and lags the entire machine.
I've had to disable the script since and have been looking for a fix for a
good while now. Giving the srcds process the highest prioritiy always helped
in keeping our servers running smoothly with high shot registration. Now
trivial system processes and other things take either the same or lower
priority, which is less than desirable. A fix would be great. Our systems
run Gentoo Linux with the 2.6.20 kernel currently, with 1000HZ set as well
as CFQ for the I/O scheduler. Going to try out RSDL when I can test it to
see how much it helps.
