Re: [hlds_linux] srcds on FreeBSD freeze...

2008-04-07 Thread kama

mpsafenet is not used much in 7.0...

A 'grep mpsafenet *' in usr-src gives results only in ce(4), cp(4),
ctau(4) and cx(4) (Which are Cronyx wan adaptors) and some docs.

Re: [hlds_linux] srcds on FreeBSD freeze...

2008-04-07 Thread K Gerry
Interesting you say it's no longer honored... Because, placing this var in
my /boot/loader.conf, I am able to run the ./steam -command update -game tf.
I tested this by:

Not having debug.mpsafenet in my loader.conf, trying to run steam, getting
that error... Rebooting... Same issue... Add that and reboot, issue
resolved.

So, I don't know WHAT it's changing then... But it's doing something for
steam. (I've also removed it and readded it and seen the problem reoccur
while it was missing... I did this while trying to troubleshoot a TF2 issue)

Re: [hlds_linux] srcds on FreeBSD freeze...

2008-04-07 Thread kama

If I recall correctly. The debian linux-base has been removed. Probably
due to that noone is maintaining it.

If you want anything else than fedora, try gentoo. Been using it for quite
awhile now. I dont even use the port. I more or less just following the
installsteps on gentoo's webpage.

As I've said before, mpsafenet is no a tuneable under releng_7.

The update problems are usually cured by a simple rm ~/.steam/*.blob
and a rm ./*.blob. You might also need to disable isr, which causes
the issues when enabled.

Re: [hlds_linux] srcds on FreeBSD freeze...

2008-04-04 Thread kama

On the freebsd mailinglist there have been reports of problem with
gameservers and the linuxulator. This were pinned down to a glibc problem
in the linux-base.

This is reported to work.
ftp://195.220.108.108/linux/fedora/development/x86_64/os/Packages/glibc-2.7.90-9.i386.rpm
But I have not tested it.

I mostly run either gentoo or fc6. And f8 is in the works.

It is nice to see the linuxulator being improved. As a look of it, the
problem of the steambinary download will be fixed soon.

mpsafenet has been deprecated in 7.0, so you'll have to toggle off
net.isr.direct instead.

Sounds like you ran into the the threading bug. try cvsupping your
machine to a newer -RELEASE that has some fixes in it.

I'll try that one then... =0

Thanks for the idea! I'll let you know if it works out.

Might be totally irrelevant, however I've always had the best luck
running the debian linux compatibility in the past. Have not tried
recently though to be honest.

[hlds_linux] srcds on FreeBSD freeze...

2008-04-03 Thread K Gerry
I've had an issue twice now on a FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE server running srcds.
Within /boot/loader.conf, I have the mpsafenet=0 on there so that'll work.
However, the issue I'm having now is that in the middle of the game, on two
maps now, srcds has just decided to stop responding for 15 seconds the first
time (The system was COMPLETELY responsive during this as well.) and this
second time, srcds was pegged at 95+% CPU and wouldn't allow any connections
(After dropping all users)

Anyway, any ideas here? Rather, anybody have this issue?

The system is an AMD X2 4200+ /w 2GB Ram. FreeBSD ports is running
linux_base-fc4
