They're enough for me :p So, on the assumption Valve are at least as
clever as I am, probably a lot more, we each lack one or more of these
things to let us fix it :-

(i) The source code
(ii) The time
(iii) The ability to recreate the crashes

I'm sure between us we have all 3, I just lack (i) :)

But since the ball is physics object and i have had 2 mysterious
crashes on regular servers related to events that had physics related
issues going on (pyros airblasting a heavy that was being shot by
sentry) but this is just be guessing.

Others have reported getting a similar error when using SMAC. Is your
crashing server default or does it have plugins?

In perspective, according to steam I've played around 105.5 hours of TF2
over the last 2 weeks and I've averaged around 3 or 4 client crashes day
(of which the vast majority are one of 2 fault addresses - although
since the last update I've not played enough yet to determine for sure,
but I've had neither crash, so they could be fixed - although it has
crashed once)

But I've never seen a server crash - not since viaduct_event crashed my
server if I wore Bills hat back at Halloween. You'd think I would have
seen one in 105 hours - and more than that if this goes back to Xmas. If
it was triggered by airblasting, throwing nades or SG throwback etc. But
most of the time I'm playing on servers that don't use any plugins and
only stock Valve maps. Whereas it's clear from SPUF that lots are
experiencing the client crashes.

That said, garrysmod has required you to replace the vphysics.so library
since forever hasn't it? Maybe that would fix this?

I'm sure they know about the issue and instead of releasing a patch to fix
it they rather raise a middle finger to us and laugh as we bitch and moan
about these crashes.

(I'm pretty sure they had the ability to fix it they would, why would they
sit on known bugs longer than they have to?)

Re: [hlds_linux] trade server crashes

2012-01-26 Thread Frank
I sometimes play for 4+hours... I may just sit in a trade server and trade a
while or chat it up some. The crashes are there, sometimes it may just lag
very badly and when a map change is forced to try to correct the lag the
server crashes. The servers sometimes just crash at random - may not crash
but will force all clients to drop from a HL2 crash issue which isn't server
related but client related- or so we think.

Again...nothing from Valve about this yet, not one single word about either
issue. Instead we are getting notices about black listing servers when there
is a bigger problem even if a select few don't have it if only after 2 hours
of game play.

2012-01-26 Thread Frank
Yeah I'm with ya here but doesn't excuse the notion that Valve broke
something to create this crashing back during the large Xmas update and has
yet to be fixed. This and the client HL2 client crash drops are still
frequently happening which are on any type of server or any type of map.
I've yet to see this addressed or discussed from them in the last 4 weeks.
Turning off beach balls is fine (not the point to do a fix) but I've seen
the vphysics crash without noting beachball so it could be related to the
ball kicking boots from the scout or even baseballs from the scout.

It's a physics error definitely as we were jumping down and shooting
and the sentry was pushing us off.

I'd say it's got to be something that's on your server that isn't on
typical servers.

Either the map, a plugin or something else.

There would be thousands more servers crashing otherwise - so you can
probably eliminate the physics used by any of the classes or weapons.

2012-01-21 Thread Kyle Sanderson
The instability is not limited to TF2. I've tracked most of my crashes down
to the threading cvars that were enabled by default a while ago.

It's still happening here as well.

The setting is:
phys_timescale 0

2012-01-20 Thread Frank
No still got the crashing, which I'm not 100% sure it's the balls doing it
if they are then it has to be something in that code. What is this setting
you are talking about to turn on to prevent them from doing this..it could
be something in that to look at.

So there was some talk about the vphysics some time ago, in particular trade
server maps that keep on crashing..
Well on my end they still do unless i turn on some setting which basicly
screws up balls/beachball/etc then its fine.

Did anyone find a sollution for this, or perhaps a map update that could
resolve this (its already a oldy)

Merci,
  Eric
