I would pay ~1$ per month (ok, I'm german, I would pay 1 euro! :D)
if there is a garantee that valve is updating VAC daily! It should not
be possible to get a running cheat for longer than xx hours.
Maybe they invent the cheater-free dedicated server with a small
license of ~2-5$ a month. I would pay for.

so I could see a nicely formatted list.

What are the reasons why the server.cfg should not be executed at
mapchange?

It was a nice feature to have one file that was reloaded at mapchange,
without the mapchangecfgfile cvar.

They don't gain money from that old game? Come on... 10 bucks to be payed by
a cheater who was catched by VAC. There are enough outside I think. Players
changing their steam IDs due to a VAC catch, only to be able to play ESL and so on...
Valve gained a lot of money in selling CZ. More money they gained after they published
that CS:S beta will only be able to CZ users... (and more bought CZ).

Valve still has a responsibility to the community. For me I can say, that CS:S is not
my multiplayer future. Just in time I'm playing more and more bfv and et ;)

We've currently changed our 3 public servers from VAC to CD (optional w/ mediator)

meh, the problem is that stupid vac disabler which makes VAC useless.
If that were eliminated it'd probably be a whole lot more useful - at
the moment enabling VAC on your servers is the same as not when it comes
to an "informed" cheater.

It was very useful when making changes to the server config or some
other item that required a map change and you wanted the change to be
made right away. Also useful when players are entering a map for a
match or scrim. If they don't all get in on time you can just issue
a 'restart' to get everyone joined up.

Valve, Alfred, I think these are really good questions and I am sure you
could easily answer these.
m0gely wrote:
Commands I wish were there:
sv_downloadurl <- I guess not a huge deal until new hammer is out
sv_filetransfercompression <- same
restart
stats
'stat' formatting is b0rked. It is a nicely readible list in hlds but
not in srcds.
Why are there 5 (!) config files that are executed at start up? What is
the defined purpose for each file? They get executed in this order:
valve.rc<- executed on start up only
autoexec.cfg<- executed on start up only
game.cfg<- executed on start up only
skill1.cfg <- executed on start up & map change
server.cfg <- executed on start up & (yay!) map change
Log files (et al) not always closed when exitting the server:
File ./cstrike/logs/L1008016.log was never closed
File ./cstrike/logs/L1008016.log was never closed
File ./cstrike/maps/de_dust2.nav was never closed
File ./cstrike/maps/de_dust2.nav was never closed
Memory leak: mempool blocks left in memory: 12
Memory leak: mempool blocks left in memory: 350
I get about 20 of these or so on start up. Someone else mentioned them
too.
CMaterial::GetNumAnimationFrames:
no representative texture for material sprites/bloodspray
Also I see this on start up:
Attempted to create unknown entity type event_queue_saveload_proxy!
What are the download and Downloads folers?
The 'stuffcmds' command acts like 'restart'. Is that the replacement?
What is that command meant for?
But the server does seem to start up alot faster in secure mode than
hlds does. I don't even see where it downloads the module. Is it
stored locally now unless a new version is avaiable?

Thanks for the tip. I had a hunch that that was it too, since I searched

For all intents and purposes, the beta didn't end. They gave us the rest
of the maps, and the new engines for i686, amd, etc, but all the problems
of the beta are still there, its still missing some content, memory
leaks..

One thing specificly: Bots are still disabled. Attempting to use them
responds that "Bots are not allowed during the Beta."

I expect to see lots of updates in the next few weeks.

On sv_voicecodec: I did this too for a long time. I noticed when I
connected to my server I would see something like "Unable to find codec
voice_speex, voice disabled" ... I've since removed that from my server's
server.cfg and when I connect now, voice works for me and the majority of
individuals it seems. Their key isn't getting unbound, the game is
disabling voice due to codec issues. So you're really re-enabling voice
itself.
