Yea but mine even if I just type ./steam all it says is aborted like
below.

Aborted

Its as if I cant run the steam app at all.

I think I was still using the username and password due to steam at one
point were deleting accounts that didn't point to a CDKEY that wasn't
used
after x amount of time.

Anyway there is no harm including those arguments in with the line :)

I have deleted the file. Even if I move the steam file to another
location and try make a fresh install or anywhere on the machine it
doesn't work. It works on all of my other machines though just this one
it doesn't seem to want to work.

Here are some options:

1) Re-download the steam installer and start from scratch.

2) Find another system similar to yours, have it update, tar up the hlds_l
dir, untar it on your system. This will work but you have to transfer a ~1gb
tarball around.

3) Find out whats up with your net connection.
