well, I can't find it in both cstrike/logs/* and console log (i dump it

server command line:

Re: [hlds_linux] VAC2 Beta information

2005-07-02 Thread Oum

hi,

ok, I have understand in CS1.6, in order to have VAC2, I must VAC1 too...
the problem is I can rarely have both at the same time on my server :/

I have -vacbeta in commandline, and secure 1 in liblist.gam

I can check VAC1 is here just by looking in HLSW or Steam Server, the only
way to check VAC2 is to look for this line in logs : "VAC beta secure mode
is activated."

the problem is :
when I see VAC1 ON in HLSW or Steam, I see this line in logs : "VAC secure
mode disabled." meaning VAC2 is OFF, and when I finally have VAC2 ON ("VAC
beta secure mode is activated." in logs), VAC1 is OFF according to HLSW or
Steam.

So what is the point ??? if I have VAC1, I don't have VAC2, and when I have
VAC2 anyway it does not work (no module download at connection) because VAC1
is OFF.

obviously, should I really still rely on Valve ?

re: [hlds_linux] VAC2 Beta information

2005-06-19 Thread Oum

Alfred please be more precise

How do I know my CS1.6 server is using VAC2 and not VAC1 ??

My server provider made a script so we can add or not -vacbeta to the
commandline, I added it, but there is absolutely no difference. If I set
secure "0" in liblist.gam... well if I understood well all you've said
before, it should take off VAC1, but VAC2 should still be there, right ?...
actually there is nothing, no vac1 of course, but no vac2 either...

You had said we can have VAC1 and VAC2 on the server at the time... but
actually it seems we MUST have VAC1 in order to make VAC2 works.

Why Valve does not allow us to see what version of VAC the server is running
?

How will we know that we're running the beta other than our server
reporting "secure" in HLDS? In SRCDS the beta is announced in the
console but I see no such announcement in the HLDS console.

Also, will you be banning during this beta? Will current Steam bans

How will we know that we're running the beta other than our server
reporting "secure" in HLDS? In SRCDS the beta is announced in the
console but I see no such announcement in the HLDS console.

Also, will you be banning during this beta? Will current Steam bans
from the VAC1 system still be in effect?

RE: [hlds_linux] VAC2 Beta information

2005-06-16 Thread Alfred Reynolds
The same console spew from Source exists in HL1. In particular if you
specify the vacbeta flag you will see:
Connection to Steam servers successful.
VAC beta secure mode is activated.

If you do not see these messages check in the logs for errors (and make
sure you have at least GLIBC 2.3.2 or above installed!).

No, you will need to run the 32-bit binaries for now if you want VAC2 support.
64-bit support is still a couple of months off.

Does it run on AMD64-platforms too? And if not when will we see it on AMD64?

As most of you know, VAC2 has been in beta for a few weeks. We're nearing
release, but we need lots of servers to run the beta right now in order to
complete our testing.

VAC2 is a significant overhaul of the Valve Anti-Cheat system. Its release is
going to be a major event in the community, so your help during the beta will
be much appreciated.

>From experience, we know that the members of this mailing list will provide us

>you as possible to start running your servers with the
VAC2 beta code turned on. Once you've started doing so, please send us any and
all trouble reports by reporting them to this list.

Instructions:
The VAC2 beta functionality is already included in both the Source and
HL1 dedicated server, just ensure you have the most recent update by running
the hldsupdatetool.

In order to turn it on, simply restart your server and add " -vacbeta"
to your the command line.

We're primarily dealing with connection issues at this point. This means that
if you choose to run your server using the VAC2 beta, a small number of users
could have trouble connecting to your server. We are particularly interested in
hearing about any issues regarding connection problems.

Things to watch for:
- "No Steam Logon" errors reported by clients. If a user gets this consistently
across a couple day period then get them to go to our support site for help.
- "steamclient.dll not found, server communication disabled." printed out on
startup. For linux users make sure you have at least GLIBC 2.3.2 or above. You
also need to allow outbound UDP traffic on port 27014 from your server. If you
do have the correct GLIBC version or run under win32 then contact me to debug
the problem.

Thanks for your help.

RE: [hlds_linux] VAC2 Beta information

2005-06-16 Thread Alfred Reynolds
Yes, "-vacbeta" should be used for both HL1 and Source servers. When
VAC2 is out of beta you will use the "-insecure" command line option to
disable VAC2 (i.e it will be enabled by default).
