RE: Servers CRASH!

2001-09-21 Thread Ryan McCullough

Try turning adminmod off and see if it makes a difference.

Correct RE: Dll's, that's why I just remove it from my liblist.gam. My
servers were upgrade w/ a full 1.1.0.8, and CS 1.3. Got the latest 2.50.07
adminmod and metamod. Still not ok. All servers have been idle here for
about 6 hours and they're all up. As soon as I get some peeps, I'll be
watching them go down. :*(

Hey there, I don't think the Linux server uses mp.dll. I don't think the
file even exists in the Linux install. Not only that, if it was a problem
loading a DLL or SO, the server would not run at all.

This is how I upgrade mine. I untar the full install package in a temporary
area. Then I delete all the files I don't want to overwrite, like:
liblist.gam, server.cfg, etc. After that I cp -R * /path/to/dir

If you are running admin mod, you need the latest version and you should
also check metamod.org for an update and replace metamod_i386.so.

Start over with the full install packages and you should be ok.

you guys REALLY need to learn how to quote :)

to the point : Its not happening with everyone .. so whatever it is, there
is a connection somehow ... is it for example only affecting Linux or
windows servers? What version of libs/DLL's are on the boxes? What
version of utils are you running (Adminmod, metamod, etc).

I was on a server last night for almost three hours ... no problems
.. well .. bugs with the new version but the server wasn't crashing. I
went to another server and found it was booting people with "Kicked by the
console", for no apparent reason ... I think it was PB doing it though
and if it even has anything to do with the new version, I don't know.

Bugs I ran into / rant:

- If you go from playing in a game, escape, and go back to another game as
a spectator (HLTV), the last person who spoke via the voice chat thingy
will still have his name highlighted on your screen and what even
weirder, one of the players will show up as always speaking (even though
they aren't).

- I had to modify my command line that I pass to half-life before it would
connect to any servers ... otherwise it would just sit there (took out
-game cstrike).

- the auto-update thingy didn't work right .. it failed to connect to any
update servers, yet it still said it upgraded something successfuly and
wouldn't let me re-run it (kept saying I was up to date already).

- Upon initially bringing up a list of servers to join, for me at least it
looked like the game was frozen again .. but if you wait a few min, it
comes back to life with a new list of servers (it only did that once
though when I first grabbed the list).

- Despite having voicecomm working, when I changed servers it wouldn't let
me use it anymore ... and there wasn't a speaker next to my name on the
score board ...

- The round restart thingy is annoying at times, but I understand its
purpose ..

- Bunny hopping is not gone .. and you can still get full acceleration if
you go backwards :)

- Wall hacks still work (not sure if this was even addressed with this
version or not)

- For some reason I cannot run TFC :( .. it's even uninstalled
.. heh.. not listed in custom games ...

BUT the new features are nice :) ...

distrorelated?

I know this does nothing to solve the problem, but for
the sake of comparison I am running a RH 7.0 server
with the upgraded HLDS running and am having no
problems. I am not running adminmod, only halfd.
Our server was maxed out running DOD last night for
several hours.
