Re: [hlds_linux] CSS beta CPU hog issue?

2010-05-13 Thread gameadmin
Have to say, that's not my experience.

I have 3 match servers with STV running on a quadcore box that's also
running, among other things, 6 L4D2 servers. If there was a problem I'd
know about it pretty damn quick.

So STV might be necessary for this CPU spike but it's not sufficient...
being match servers, they tend to run for about 14 hours in the day without
being used, and even when they are it's only for about 3 or 4 maps a night.
Maybe what you're seeing also needs a certain number of people to have
joined, or a certain number of mapchanges to have been done? (My servers
are restarted every morning, since as part of their auto-restart they'll do
an update check and pick up any overnight updates)

I do have one server that isn't updated nightly - the idle server*. So far
it's been up for 6 days 3 hours, and the only issue I've noticed is that if
you don't have a mapchange every day or so you start getting
"rubber-banding" stutters several times a second. In fact, considering it's
being run with "nice -n 1", has sv_maxrate 15,000 and sv_max(update|cmd)rate
30, it's surprisingly playable ;)

*yes _I_ know it's not necessary now, but as long as people are using it,
I'll keep running it.

Hi,

I don't think -debug will show any useful information, I have to kill it myself
to get it out of the 100% cpu munching mode.

In the syslog is no information regarding the CSS beta server.

Additionally you may want to try -debug on the source server and on any of the
servers it's killing.

You may also want to check syslog (assuming you are in a nix environment) to
see if there is any handy debugging information there.

Hi,

We have a problem with the new CSS beta server. Sometimes the server starts
consuming all available CPU load and effectively starts killing all other
servers on that machine.

We had the same issue with forked L4D2 servers. I had a chat with VALVe on
this, they confirmed that issue, but I never saw an official fix (although
it does seem to that the fork issue has been fixed).

Now the same issue appears on the CSS orangebox port. If I kill the server
during this time and reboot it I often find it going consuming loads of CPU
load again. It looks like it might be a VAC problem because the load occurs
before the VAC message of the server becoming secure. If I wait a period of
time before booting it again, the problem is gone.

Subject: [hlds_linux] CSS beta CPU hog issue?

Hi,

We have a problem with the new CSS beta server. Sometimes the server starts
consuming all available CPU load and effectively starts killing all other
servers on that machine.

We had the same issue with forked L4D2 servers. I had a chat with VALVe on
this, they confirmed that issue, but I never saw an official fix (although it
does seem to that the fork issue has been fixed).

Saint K.

Hi,

I am 100% certain, the CSS beta server is running completely vanilla. I have no
intentions to install any plugins on it (neither metamod/sourcemod).

Are you absolutely sure that this isn't plugin related and occurs on
vanilla setup too?
