I've tried the latest installer from steampowered.com and from a few other sites. No luck with any of them so far. I tried tar xzf LinuxHldsUpdateTool_13.pkg as well. Still no joy. Just checking the version of tar and its tar (GNU tar) 1.14 Cheers Andy -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jeff Fearn Sent: 01 May 2005 23:48 To: hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] Troubles installing hlds on FC3 On 5/2/05, Andy Townsend [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Hi Recently setup a fedora box to put some css game servers on. Still got plenty of space, and I did try deleting that hidden steam folder when I tried some new installers. Maybe it is my version of tar thats out of date, although it worked fine the first time I installed it... I get this if I'm doing this on a fat32 drive, or if there is a permission issue on the directory I'm installing to. I ended up logging in as root and creating a directory for steam and giving root ownership of the directory. Then it worked. Looks like its working now, ended up putting it into another directory and chmod 777 'ing it. Tar was apparently up to date, just didn't like running in that directory it was in to start with.
