Try VirtualBox its a great VM and running XP/7 will give you all the support needed as Wine can be so cranky. We use VM in debian with virtio network driver to run a Dota2 server, works great. Agreed. Virtualbox works well. It is not an option in this environment unfortunately. If spinning up a windows instance was an option, I wouldn't have even bothered wasting time with this. Wine is good enough for time it will be needed. No disagreement that it sucks to have to do it, however. I see. I do have the old binaries but they throw an invalid auth / ESteamError 25 whenever a player tries to connect to the server unless the player hasn't updated their local SDK2006 install, whether running srcds -insecure or not. Why would that happen? There are no more SDK Base 2006 linux binaries unless you have them saved from an old install. They got lost during or after the SteamPipe conversion. Failed to install app '204' (No subscription) This occurs with or without the validate option. If I login to a steam account, I see: ERROR! Failed to install app '204' (Invalid platform) I've also read of a client side work around that was used for Blackmesa ( http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?p=561205) and it also includes the steps above, but it ain't working for me.
