:-/. Guess I'll have to go ahead and try 2.4.19 and see if it makes a
difference.

Re: [hlds_linux] serveur Perf

2003-02-20 Thread DLinkOZ
Yesterday I setup a new 7.3 box with the latest kernel. Same problem. I
reverted to my trusty 2.4.9-34 and things are great again. I know... broken
record, but it works for me (across several machines running P4's, a
celeron, an xp 2100 and a dual PIII). All react the same way. I just have
to do a --force to get the older kernel rpm in there.

we use 8.0 on our dual xeon machine and experience similar problems. We're

RE: [hlds_linux] serveur Perf

2003-02-20 Thread Haspers
Does everyone experiencing this lag/performance issue using RH 7.2 or 7.3?
Does this problem only occurs with 7.2? Someone tried RH8?

What would be the best OS for hosting the HLDS? We currently use 7.3 but
with some Xeon machines we are experiencing strange lag (freezes for a
second sometimes).

What version of redhat? The latest 7.2 kernel is still a 2.4.18.

I've run two instances on a 2.4.18 kernel without this problem so it's not
kernel-specific. I would assume, then, that it has more to do with RedHat,
which I wasn't using.

Re: [hlds_linux] serveur Perf

2003-02-18 Thread vOrTeX

Howdy,

Running multiple HLDS on RedHat with a Pentium P4 CPU (perhaps its a
linux 2.4 kernel issue, rather than a RedHat issue) had been brought up
a few times over the past month, it seems that there is a problem that
causes multiple HLDS processes to use more CPU than they need, and lag
the servers...

I had this problem with one of my CS League servers also (redhat 7.3,
2.4.18 kernel, 1.6Ghz P4, 512 DDR RAM), so i pulled it out, and started
again with Debian 3.0 (running a 2.2 kernel), my servers are now
lag-free, and my players are happy :)
