Re: [Hornlist] Sad News

No, not horn related - the deceased were principal 2nd violinist and principal
violist according to the orchestra's website - but what a waste. Very sad
news...

Fellow listers:

Not exactly horn related as far as I know, but from a musician's
viewpoint a tragedy involving Eugene (Oregon) Symphony players.

[Hornlist] Re: Easier horn trios

2007-02-14 Thread John Jay Hilfiger

Simon,

I have done a number of arrangements for horn trio. many of them are
published by Brasssworks 4 Publishing. At their web page
(http://www.brassworks4.com/) you can download free samples of the
scores to see if they fit your needs. Some other trios are available
from other publishers. See my web page

Jay Hilfiger

A couple of friends of mine (a trumpeter and a tuba-player) come round
to my place regularly to play my spare horns, just for fun.
We've been "doing" the 4th volume of Reicha Trios, but they are a bit
too hard. We are not going to get them together any better than they
are now without some dedicated horn playing.

What can you recommend at a slightly easier level?

They are beginning to understand how and why the Reicha suits the horn
so well, and are even beginning to apply their new skills and knowledge
of the physics of brass playing to their regular instruments, so
something specifically for horn would probably be better than the
arrangements of popular pieces ("Liebestraum" for saxophone trios and
the like) that are available on the music shops around here.

Any recommendations?

Simon

[Hornlist] American Horn Quartet Summer Workshops

2007-02-14 Thread Heather Pettit-Johnson
The American Horn Quartet will present two workshops this summer: one in
Switzerland and the other in Daytona Beach, Florida. The 5th Lugano Horn
Workshop, June 30-July 6, will, for 2007, include the entire AHQ on staff. The
1st Annual American Horn Quartet Summer Workshop at Daytona Beach, August 5-11,
is a brand new event that the AHQ hopes will compliment the existing horn
workshops being held in the US.

Posters, workshop information and applications are all available on the
American Horn Quartet website, www.hornquartet.com.

Here's hoping you and your students can join the AHQ this summer!

[Hornlist] easier trios

2007-02-14 Thread Luke Zyla
Simon asked: What can you recommend at a slightly easier level?
Volumes 1-4 of the Bach Trios arranged by Lowell Shaw are excellent.
These trios are available from "The Hornists' Nest"

[Hornlist] Horrido!

2007-02-14 Thread Dietger Pohl

Hi there everyone!

I just subscribed the list to day.
I'm 45, playing horn since November last year - after listening to my
younger daughter Johanna playing the horn for 2 years now. Blowing the
horn and making music in general is an entire new world to me :) Having
a blast playing this Lidl Bruno "Synphonic" which I'm delighted to refer
to as "the curse" ;) My teacher Klaus Sell who lend it to me believes
its made in the '60s - just as I'am.

Working up and down the scales and little and easy pieces, currently
"Allegro" (Anton Diabelli) as well as stuff like "French" Horn Student
and Studies and Melodious Etudes For "French" Horn - Ployhar/Weber
(level one).

If anyone here got any other recommendation to get into and play, I
would be grateful !

Thanks in advance

Dietger
