RE: [Hornlist] Bag for extra bell/flare?

2008-08-07 Thread Loren
Our price for the 2 horn-bell MB case shipped to any US address is
$239 for the nylon version and $304 for the leather. I would also note that
if you already have an MB6 or MB7 case, then you can carry two bell flares
in those cases (I've carried my two bells this way for several years with no
damage).

I use the Marcus Bonna bell case that holds up to 2 flares. It's light and
offers good protection. You can see it at

Contact any of the US dealers for price and availability.

A snare drum case works well, with a little padding (towel or whatever).

No, but you could buy some leatherette or such and have a local
seamstress or upholsterer make you something pretty easily. My wife
sews a lot and can make all sorts of bags and protectors with her
trusty Bernina. Sketch out your ideas for what you want and try a
good seamstress.

Just a quick survey of popular US websites and known vendors puts
the number
of Hoyers in the hundreds, Alexanders in the 10-20 range, Otto and
Durk have

a handful of horns in various shops around (or maybe just Scott's...)

There is a shop here in Washington DC which stocks no less than 30
horns at
a time ranging from Hoyer, Conn, Yamaha, Holton, Alexander (not
sure if
they're a dealer or if they just have a couple used ones...) and
they'll
provide you quiet places to sit and try the horns if you'd like.
This is

Little

Osmun, and many others.)

In fact, I'd hate to purchase a horn from a place where I didn't
have the

luxury and ability to play a few side-by-side for direct comparison.

Just some thoughts-

I doubt, if you will find shops carrying horns of different
brands in Berlin. Most players here order from the makers
Alexander, Otto, Mönnig, Hoyer, Dürk & others directly. As
the market is that volatile, no shop can afford to keep
different brans of horns with all possible different models
in stock. Horn would cost 40-50% more, if being kept in
stock. Manufacturer would not leave their horns in the shops
on commission. They would starve. The craftsmen have to be
paid every month. These times are over forever. They are
just an illusion. And studios to play around on the horns ?
Who would pay the rent ? It would be a dream-situation, but
is impossible. Well, you might find Yamahas & Chinese horns
or horns from Bazil or Pakistan or Indonesia, which are made
as a side business of big business conglomerates as some
kind of a hobby of the CEO.

But do not give up hope ! Never !

Double post (Memphis and Yahoo.)

So, now that IHS is over and you've all had a chance to rest a little,
please share with the group what horns, accessories and gadgets that you
tried. Tell us what you liked or disliked about them.

This is for morbid curiosity more than anything else since it will likely
result in me spending more money.

[Hornlist] Chinese Bb Horn For Sale

2008-08-07 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Greetings -

Ouch! Did I make a mistake!

So, I have a detachable bell Chinese Bb horn for sale. It's in excellent
condition, of course, since it's hardly been out
of the case. I can send pictures - just ask.

If you want it, and can receive it somewhere in the US, just tell me how
much you want to pay (money, if you don't
mind) and it's yours. If more than one person feels a need for this horn,
I'll decide over the weekend.

I don't want to take it home with me.

Maybe you own a steam roller or a hydraulic press and can make a wall
hanging? Maybe you can sand the bell down
to a reasonable thickness.

Regards,

Carlberg (on vacation in Pinckney, Michigan)
