Haydn 51 does go to a high F in the Minuet, above the high E in Haydn

played the parts as alto. However, the Haydn Orchestral Excerpt

I'd like to think that they are alto since they are from the same
period as Maria Theresa where the C parts are alto.

Re: [Hornlist] Haydn/Dorati Horn Players?

2006-07-03 Thread Dan Malloy Jr
I believe Christopher Leuba was principal on these recordings.
Others, I'm not sure of. I know there was a Horn Call from the early
80's that had an article about the use of horns in Haydn Symphonies.
It listed the 'unique' symphonies...ones in C or Bb alto, ones with 4
horns, as well as the highest notes in these works (high F in Trio of
Symph 51 as well as high Eb in the horn solo at the beginning of the
2nd mvt). It was this article that turned me on to Haydn
symphonies. Unfortunatly, I can't seem to find this issue...

It would be nice to have a resource, perhaps a website, that lists
all the

There

What about the clearly WRONG note that keeps getting corrected,
erased, corrected, erased, corrected, erased until the paper wears
through. Or the clearly EXTRA measure (in a reduced pit orchestra
part) of a repeated bar. I actually took a white mailing label and
stuck on the extra measure...no more guessing. Or the rental pit
part that has been xeroxed so many times that 1/3 of the page is so
black it is unreadable, not to mention the nearly unreadable
manuscript of the rest of the part. Why do rental agencies allow
these crappy parts.

-end of rant-

Not to say I do this all the time. I say if it clearly benifits the
player i.e. number of bars rest in the upper corner, why bother to
erase. It will most likely get penciled in again...

I have been using a B10 Megamoose for the past 2 years and have loved it.
Every once in a while I play something and think 'Wow, that was cool...so
effortless'. I've done things with this MP that I've seemed to have had
problems with before.
I gave Tom a lot of background details about me and what I play (horn
and Orchestral positions) and what I wanted in the new MP. I also told him
I tried a friends C8 Cartouche and liked it. Tom said he usually recommends
a B underpart for Yamahas and a 12 bore. We decided to split the difference
since I wanted a bit bigger bore than what I was currently using, and ended
up with the B10. I recently got a new horn (667VS) and am planning on going
B10y Cartouche ('y' is for the slightly narrower lead pipe than my old 667),
since I liked the other so well.
I have had several students get a Moosewood and they like it very much.

Good luck and I hope you find a combo you like...
