[Hornlist] Sunday in the Park with High notes.......
Hi List, Looking for thoughts, experiences, answers to playing the show "Sunday in the Park with George." For those that are not familiar with this show or the artist: The horn, at times, represents the Bugle played in "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" by Georges Seurat. There are written instructions from the orchestrator (to Bb horn.) So, an instrument change? The high D's in the Finale of Act l and Act ll are a challenge as well. Thoughts, opinions, experience? Kyle was living true to his nature, "Live life!". The blessed irony of this sad, untimely loss, is he was in love, held a job he appreciated and had a life full of family and friends. I will never think of Baseball, backyard whiffle ball, or life in general after working hard and enjoying life with Kyle as a friend and co-worker. [Hornlist] Ears still ringing - help?
I rarely post, but have a couple of questions and would appreciate your experience and advice. Two subjects: Ear protectioin, and section decorum. Disgruntled section players disrespecting choices of Principal, Ear protection: 9 Horns in one line. Assistant, Principal, and Second directly in front of Trumpets and Trombones, lower horns in front of Percussion, All sections complained our bells pointed to them To me, it's simple science. Reverse sections to get all of us out of the obvious line of fire.(did not feel appropriate making any suggestions as I served as an extra). Still looking for the best solution in ear plugs. I would also be intersted in opinions and experiences of Principals that have dealt with the discontent of section players. There are proper procedures in place to handle needs, by the way. Please answer off line if you would like. Thank you for your help. I would like to maintain good aural health. Hi John, Congratulations in advance! the program sounds wonderful. Let's see..Super Bowl, John's recital, Super Bowl, John's recital?!?!?!?!?!? LOL Actually I would choose your recital, hands down! I have medicall stuff to take care of this week with an apparent stroke. For having signs of a stroke, I fared well. Have blurry vison, fumbly left side and oh, the memory? Maybe that started around 40, though. hard to read most times, and i've slowed down a bit. Hopefully that is temporary. After i see the Neurologist this Friday, i may feel way better about the whole thing. My goal is, "how do we not let this happen again?" All the best my friend. It will surely be beautiful.
