[Hornlist] Fuchs clarinet/horn duets now available online

2005-08-18 Thread rboerger
Thanks to Carlberg Jones, you can now find the Fuchs Clarinet/Horn duets
on the web via

 http://boerger.org/horn/music/

Right click the link you'll find there and do a "save as" or "save target
as". This particular file is in .zip format. Thanks to both Carlberg and
of course David Goldberg for making these files available.

I'm happy to host other *public domain* music here; drop me a line if
you've got something to contribute.

[Hornlist] Re: Clarinet/Horn duets

2005-08-18 Thread rboerger
For those still looking for these duets, a note from David Goldberg:

==

Until next week I am unable to send the duets out - I am in an alien and
very secure computer environment that doesn't want me to attach anything
to a message.

I would ask that someone who already received the duets please offer to
continue distribution.

If you sent me a message today and didn't already get the duets, please
hang in there.

David G

==

I've already talked to David about hosting these on a website, which will
be http://boerger.org/horn/music/ . If someone wants to send me a copy of
what David sent last week, I'll be happy to stick it out there. The site
doesn't exist at present. Otherwise, once David returns, we'll get the
files out there and let everyone know.

I would be happy to host any similar PUBLIC DOMAIN music for horn, space
allowing.

Please reply via e-mail with any questions.

[Hornlist] Re: fixed bell and airlines

2005-03-14 Thread rboerger
The "AFM letter" only details what the TSA must allow through its
screening process. It does NOT mandate that the airlines allow you to
carry the instrument on-board. And since I was scolded by an AFM member
for having the temerity to refer to the taxpayer-funded response to that
organization when this topic came up last, I would recommend non-AFM
members refer to the TSA's own policy statment, which can be found at:

http://www.tsa.gov/public/display?content=0900051980069ab5

Note especially the following statement: "Air carriers may or may not
allow the additional carry-on item on their aircraft. Please check with
your air carrier prior to arriving at the airport."

[Hornlist] San Antonio Symphony's reorganization plan approved

2004-04-19 Thread rboerger
Full story:
http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/metro/stories/MYSA19symphony_online_0419.45c80945.html
(registration unfortunately required)

Excerpts:

"Let's go make music," said [U.S. bankruptcy] Judge Leif Clark. The
symphony will begin playing this fall, and the schedule is expected to be
released within two to three weeks, said Bruce Johnson, the symphony's
president and CEO.

[...]

The symphony's new operating plan includes a slimmed-down budget with a
shorter 26-week season and lower pay and benefits for musicians. It also
features a new management team and increased emphasis on marketing, sales
and corporate sponsorships. The proposed budget for 2004-05, based on a
26-week season and 72 musicians, lists operating expenses of about $5.5
million.

[end excerpts]

A pity the season, pay, and number of musicians have been reduced, but at
least the group seems to be on decent footing to start the 2004-5 season.

The symphony's strategic plan is available via the organization's website,
http://www.sasymphony.org/. Good luck to the San Antonio Symphony, its
musicians, and supporters!

The trumpets play very infrequently in "Old Wine in New Bottles" and I do
believe the parts are optional.

There's a followup work by Jacob for similar ensemble, "More Old Wine in
New Bottles."
