Re: [Hornlist] Hetman usg grease 9
Save your money Mark. The Selmer red goo is excellent. Failing that, go to Pep boys or any other auto supply store and buy yourself a tube of automotive wheel bearing grease. It works very well, is "cost effective" (a.k.a CHEAP) and likely you'll have the tube for years. Sincerely, Martin Bender On 28-Sep-07, at 3:08 PM, Loren Mayhew wrote: Yes, it is thick. Re: [Hornlist] Hetman usg grease 9
Mark, yes, it is supposed to be that sticky.? It's intended for those slides that are really loose and drop out by themselves.? I always tell customers that it's? stop-gap measure until they can get their slides expanded to fit. If you want something less thick and sticky, try (in decreasing order of stickiness), Hetman Slide Gel-Plus, Selmer Tuning slide and cork grease, Hetman Slide Gel, Hetman grease #8, any lanolin-based product. Re: [Hornlist] Hetman
The needle nose bottles are so useful I use them for a lot of production dispensing jobs. McMaster-Carr (just punch it into google) sells many varieties on their web site, but they cost $3.28, empty. The oil must be free. Probably why Hetman is changing their packaging. McMaster also sells dispensing needles in all sizes, and these often mate perfectly with the dropper nose bottles most oils come in. Since McMaster-Carr will now ship to residential customers using a credit card, I've gotten into the habit of keeping an order building on the web site of all the little hardware things I'd usually run all over town looking for, and usually never finding. When I need something in a hurry, I send in the order and it shows up the next day, UPS, at the ground shipping rate. Otherwise I can claim the parts are on order. They aren't the very lowest price, but surprisingly low on a lot of items, and they sell exotic things in single quantities you can't find anywhere else. Everything they sell is professional quality. My wife bought a broom from them, nothing fancy, but it lasts and lasts. Their buyers really know good value. If you're not familiar with McMaster-Carr, check them out. Re: [Hornlist] Hetman
Re the new Hetman packaging: the dropper style bottle is used in the larger 60ml bottles: Light Piston, Piston, Classic Piston, Light Rotor, etc. The needle style is retained in the smaller 25ml bottles: Light Bearing, Medium Bearing, and Bearing & Linkage. I happen to like the new packages, and they have the advantage (or disadvantage as far as some are concerned) of having child safety lids. Many, many stores carry them. Just ask. Re: [Hornlist] Hetman
Eye dropper? I prefer the needle nose myself since it's much more precise, and it metes out the oil a lot better since you really have to squeeze a lot out with that tiny needle to over-oil. I'm glad I saved my four empty bottles (two bearing short needles, two rotor long needles) of the stuff now... looks like I may need to just swap bottles after I order. Just out of curiosity for those who use this - do you use the medium or light oil? Which one do you prefer over the other? I am using the light oil right now, and it works pretty well for me. I've also started using the Hetman slide gel - it seems like the bottle might last forever since so little of the stuff is needed per slide :) -William In a message dated 8/2/2004 11:49:34 AM Pacific Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: All. Re: [Hornlist] Hetman Sythetic Oils?
I recently bought several bottles of Hetman oils from Giardinelli. The bottles came with twice as much oil as previously but with an eye-dropper nose rather than a needle nose.
