[Hornlist] Re: RIP Walter Lawson
One bad thing about living on the west coast most of my life was not being able to hang out with Walter. I didn't know him like some of you did, but he was always so nice to me and incredibly interesting to talk to. I remember his talks about repairs and maintenance at the early IHS things and then came the great experiments and his horns and mouthpieces- he was ahead of the curve, always. I'm sure if i had lived on the east coast i would have found many an excuse to visit him. Thanks to all of you who shared your personal experiences with him. They gave the rest of us another look at the man as a whole, which is what really counts. There were some very nice tributes to a great guy from a bygone age who was never out of date, and always a gentleman. Walter, you left a real legacy. Jeremy Cucco relates of Walter Lawson: We were chatting at great length as we often did when I would go by his shop and he said: Do you know what aggravates me to no ends? When I get behind some old fogey going down the road 5 miles per hour less than the speed limit. I mean, I'm an old man - that guy's taking 5 minutes away from the rest of my life! And that's something Walter was never guilty of! Lest anyone get the wrong idea, he was an excellent driver. I rode with him many times, most recently just before last Christmas, and always felt safe when he was driving. However, he knew how to get around those country roads near the shop, uh, expeditiously! What a sad loss. Walter, we will all miss you dearly. For those of you who were not fortunate enough to have had your lives touched by Walt, he was as kind of a man as you can possibly imagine. His warmth was matched by his amazing sense of humor and his smile truly lit up the room. He once told me something that had me rolling on the floor laughing - please allow me to share it with you. We were chatting at great length as we often did when I would go by his shop and he said: Do you know what aggravates me to no ends? When I get behind some old fogey going down the road 5 miles per hour less than the speed limit. I mean, I'm an old man - that guy's taking 5 minutes away from the rest of my life! Walter always was able to put everything into perspective personally and professionally and it is a truly sad moment. No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
