[Hornlist] Re: works for horn and wind ensemble
David Maslanka wrote a concerto for 2 horns and hind ensemble. When I first joined a hind ensemble they made me start with Doe, a deer, a female deer. ---Steve Tarter--- ___ post: horn@music.memphis.edu unsubscribe or set options at http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org

[Hornlist] Re: works for horn and wind ensemble
David Maslanka wrote a concerto for 2 horns and hind ensemble. I want to say that it was called Sea Changes (or something similar) and was premiered at ASU. It's pretty idiomatic for Maslanka, so if you like his music, you'll probably like the piece. It's hell on the percussionists, though ... Not arrangements, but original works. And not Strauss or Mozart. Gary As it happens, I've been pondering this myself. As I announced on this list some time ago, I've composed a horn concerto (with orchestra), but I'm still waiting for a first performance (it's been played in part with piano reduction, and has been workshopped successfully with an orchestra, but still no public airing). A colleague strongly suggested that rewriting it (rather than just arranging) for horn and band would tap interest in a lot of players and conductors. I've put this off because it's a big speculative venture not quite the same as writing a new work. If there's interest, let me know. You can hear a reasonable simulation of the orchestral version on my website: http://music.systemsolve.net (You can even get a version with a missing soloist - I'll send out a solo part (PDF email) to anyone who asks.)
