I hear the Yamaha 863 is fine horn, although it's not really that old. Chris --- Hurricane Chinooks [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Who currently makes Schmidt style horns? Re: [Hornlist] Schmidt style horns
I'm pretty happy with my C.F.Schmidt Schmidt-style horn. Unfortunately its currently out of service due to a need for a valve job :( Paul Truszkowski (currently playing a newly-purchased 1939 King 1155.look that one up) - Original Message - From: Hurricane Chinooks [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, September 04, 2004 4:26 PM Subject: [Hornlist] Schmidt style horns Who currently makes Schmidt style horns? Re: [Hornlist] Schmidt style horns
As I recall, there has been a Hill Schmidt model horn for sale at hornplayer.net for several months. The price is $6,000, which is quite fair, IMHO. Wilbert in SC --- Walter E. Re: [Hornlist] Schmidt style horns
Joyce, As previously noted, Hill makes a Schmidt style horn that is supposed to be very good and Yamaha made some, but they are somewhat rare. As you know, Conn, King and York made Schmidt style horns as well decades ago. According to Milan Yancich, Carl Geyer thought that the Schmidt design was the best horn design and I believe that the horns he made for Wünderlcih in Chicago prior to 1916 were Schmidt pattern instruments.. As far as what Schmidt style horns are the best, probably the original C.F. Schmidt horns. I know three people 1 professional and two amateurs who own original Schmidts and they are wonderful instruments. Of course, the only problem is that none have been made since the early 1940's. If you can get one in good condition or one that has been refurbished by a master repair technician, you are getting a fine instrument.
