[Hornlist] Sacred Music for voice, horn, and piano

2004-12-06 Thread Bill McHenry

I appreciate the recommendations/feedback you folks sent for sacred music
for horn and piano to be performed in church settings - this is very
helpful !

Now,on a similar tangent, is anyone aware of well written, newer sacred
music for lead voice (soprano, tenor perhaps), piano, and horn ? I am
looking for something where the horn provides color commentary and even
interchanges the lead with the vocalist. Some of the newer church
orchestrations/cantatas have well written horn parts. I hope that this is
available for a smaller group as such. If you are aware of anything such
as this, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Bill

[Hornlist] sacred music for horn

2004-12-03 Thread John Hilfiger
I play in churches fairly often and write a lot of my own music for
horn. Some of these works are available from Wehr's Music House
(http://www.wehrs-music-house.com/), including PRELUDE ON 'HYFRYDOL'
(tune for several hymns) and VARIATIONS ON A SPIRITUAL SONG (the song is
Were You There When they Crucified My Lord?) Both of these are for
horn solo with organ or piano accompaniment. Wehr's also has my LORD,
KEEP US STEADFAST IN YOUR WORD (a new setting of a Reformation era hymn)
for horn and SATB choir, and a couple of brass quintets, PRELUDE ON 'A
MIGHTY FORTRESS' and PRELUDE ON 'O GOD, OUR HELP', as well as HYMN
PRELUDES for brass trio. VARIATIONS and LORD, KEEP US have been
reviewed in Horn Call.

I have several other pieces for horn solo and horn trio which have not
been published yet, but I hope they will be available in the next year.
Pleaswe feel free to contact me off list if you would like more
information.

[Hornlist] sacred music

2004-12-02 Thread Brent Shires
Listers,
For very pretty and well-written pieces appropriate in church, you
certainly want to consider the Three Hymn Tunes by Paul Basler. Abide
With Me, Amazing Grace, and Shall We Gather at the River are all
excellent works.
